OPEN HOUSE FOR CMIT SOUTH ACADEMY AND ELEMENTARY
|
CMIT South is excited to hold two open house sessions for parents of prospective students who are interested in applying to the lottery for CMIT South and CMIT South Elementary. If you have students of elementary school age or secondary school age, please plan to attend one of this sessions. Sessions will hold as follows:
Thursday October 26, 2017 @ 6:00pm
Saturday November 04, 2017 @ 12:00pm
We encourage all prospective families to join us for this event. We will be discussing our instructional program and offerings.

CLF Advanced Studies REGISTRATION is open now!

The Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation (CLF) will offer a variety of programs aimed at helping students further develop social skills while improving academic performance. The following exclusive courses made available ONLY to CLF schools’ students. Students will take an assessment test and upon completion, satisfied students will receive a certificate from CLF. Saturday Academy
|
CMIT South offers free Saturday Academy for enrichment in Math and Reading and it will began on October 21, 2017. Students in need of additional support in their classwork or homework may attend. Some students are also being recommended to attend. Please refer to the schedule and plan to be punctual and consistent in your attendance to fully benefit from the session you choose.
Saturday Academy schedule:
09:00 – 11:00 || 1st Study Session
11:00 – 01:00 || 2nd Study Session
01:00 || Dismissal
Students are free to attend the session that works for them. Students attending both sessions will need to arrive at 9:00 am and will be dismissed at 1:00 pm. If you plan to have your child attend both sessions please provided them with a snack. We look forward to seeing you on Saturdays.

CMIT SOUTH GIRLS BROKE STEM DOORS....
|
On Saturday October 7, 2017, young lady of CMIT South had an opportunity to participate in various sessions related to Science, Engineering, Technology and Math. Sessions include open remarks from NASA Engineer, Environmental Health, Accounting for Expenses, Getting to know your Microbes, Public Health and Neuroscience, and Robotics Engineering. There were also remarks from a female Army Dentist. The young ladies had a wonderful time expanding their horizon in the different STEM Fields.
Many thanks to Ms. Felicia Johnson of Ready Set Help for helping to organize this events. CMIT South students are also grateful to all presenter and volunteers for making this event a massive success.

The Lions Club of CMIT South had a successful and impactful ‘Men make a difference day’ on Monday, October 9th, 2017. They worked closely with the CMIT Staff to focus on the issues of bullying, talked with students, and they used their magic touch to help keep the hallways looking nice. We thank you for your support and your presence definitely made a difference.

CMIT South Picture Day
|
Picture Day order forms will be sent home by October 24th. Purchasing pictures is optional. The pictures taken in the oxford shirts will be used for the yearbook and we want to capture all students. Both the CMIT South white oxford and tie is REQUIRED to take school pictures. Students should come to school dressed for pictures. Any student that has P.E. on picture day can bring their shirt and tie to school and wear them over their P.E. shirt when it is time to take their picture. Please note that there will be no loaner shirts provided on picture day. Thank you.

College Fair

The 2017 12th Annual "Go to High School, Go to College" Fair on November 11, 2017 from 10 AM - 12:30 PM at the Southern Regional Technology and Recreation Complex, 7700 Bock Road, Fort Washington, MD 20744.
This fair will host many college admissions offices from across the country, financial aid workshops and more!
Participants will also have a chance to win an iPad and a $1,000 scholarship! I encourage all junior and senior high school families in my district to take advantage of this great opportunity. Please see the flyer attached for more details.

Tryouts will be held from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Students wishing to participate must have a completed physical on file BEFORE tryouts. Participants must also have a 2.0 grade point average.
Players should report to the gym immediately after school and come prepared to play (shorts and gym shoes).

Technology Fee
|
CMIT South is collecting Technology fee now. Technology fee is used to provide some of the technology resources utilized in Technology class. CMIT South front desk will begin collecting the technology fee Friday (October 13th) through Tuesday (October 17th). You may send it with the students. Fees will be collected at the front desk during homeroom time or lunch time in the cafeteria. Cash, check or money order is being accepted.

National Bullying Prevention Month

CMIT-South is celebrating National Bullying Prevention Month!
Each week in October will represent different ways that WE (students, staff, and families) can get involved to officially stomp out bullying.
I say WE because in order for CMIT-South to be bully-free, all members of the community need to be involved. Please encourage your children to be part of the solution.. not the problem.

What is the Uniform Policy?

How do we order uniform items?
Uniform items can be ordered by completing the online order form: https://anderon-mmp.myshopify.com/ or www.cmituniforms.com
Do I have to purchase uniforms from this vendor?
No, however, uniforms purchased from other vendors must have 100% identical color tone and the CMIT South logo. The current uniform vendor provides donation to the CMIT South PTO based on sales. Each uniform purchase from Minuteman Press is contribution to the school.
What is CMIT South's Daily Schedule?
8:20am - 8:35am:
- Student arrival (drop off is at the side entrance)
- Doors close at 8:35am (after 8:35am parents need to sign late students in at the Front Office)
8:20am - 8:45am:
- Homeroom (Breakfast is available during this time until 8:45am)
8:45am - 2:49pm for 6th & High School grades and 8:45am - 2:54pm for 7th & 8th grades:
- Academic instruction
2:49/2:54pm - 3:10 pm:
Student pick-up outside (Students who are not picked up by 3:10pm will be waiting outside for their ride. There is no adult supervision for these students during this time).
Clubs and enrichment activities will begin immediately following dismissal. All club/enrichment participants must report directly to the cafeteria. Students who continuously fail to report directly to their designated locations will lose the privilege to participate in any after school activities.
How do I pay for my child's lunch?
Breakfast and lunch are served every day. You can add money to your child's account by visiting this link. You can also pay by cash or money order in the cafeteria.
Can my child bring their own lunch to school?
Students can bring a lunch from home. Lunches can be stored in the student's locker. Microwaves are available in the cafeteria to warm food. Refrigerators are not available for students. Lunch taken to lunch room should be consumed in lunch room. Student cannot return to locker after lunch. All lunch bags should be left in lockers if student do not wish to place in bins after lunch. Lunch bags are not allowed in class.
What do they serve for school lunch?
A monthly menu is provided by Food and Nutrition Services. Click here for lunch and breakfast menu.
What is the academic calendar?
CMIT follows the Prince George's County Public School calendar found here. To receive notifications of PGCPS school cancellations by providing information here.
