Please mark your calendars for SY18 Back to School Nights:

Tuesday, September 12, 2017: 7th Grade & 8th Grade
Thursday, September 14, 2016: 6th Grade & High School

Schedule is from 4:00pm - 7:00 pm each night.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR 6TH GRADE
September 5, 2017 is the first day for all incoming 6th and 9th grade students. During this day, students will participate in orientation for their new grades.

Parents are expected to arrive by 8:15 am and doors will be open for students at 8:20am, everyday. The students will have 25 minutes until 8:45am to use lockers, eat breakfast, and stay in the homeroom to listen to the morning announcements. Arrivals after 8:40 am is considered tardy and those students will not be ready for the day when the first period starts at 8:45am. Parents are asked to consider the traffic which is always hectic in the morning.

Pick up is at 2:49pm and 3:10pm is the latest pick up time without consequences.

Uniform Sale/Donations


Date: Thursday, August 10, 2017
Time: 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM*
Location: Near the Front Office
Students grow out of clothing quickly so come get a bargain at the CMIT South Used Uniform Sale. Gently used uniforms including shirts, shorts, pants, jackets and sportswear will be available for just $5 to $15. *Time may change, if all items are sold.

If you would like to donate gently used, clean uniforms for High School or Middle School, please do so at the front office before August 10th, Monday - Thursday from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. If closed, please drop by the door. Questions? Please contact CMIT South PTO, @ mgallaway.cmitspto@gmail.com.

UPCOMING EVENTS
CMIT SOUTH CHEER CAMP


Cheer camp comes to CMIT South. This camp is open to all CMIT South students - incoming 6th to 9th grades.
Instructions will be provided on tumbling, dance and cheer. The camp is facilitated by a cheer coach.
Campers should wear t-shirt, shorts and athletics shoes.

Date: August 23-25, 2017
Time: 9:00am - 4:30pm
Registration form and payment information for camp is attached.

GIRLS BREAKING DOWN STEM DOORS

Event Description:
Community outreach organization Ready, Set, Help is hosting a STEM event for the young ladies of CMIT that will provide fun and challenging hands-on exercises in each of the four fields. The students will rotate through sessions led by women working in that field who will guide them through exercises, provide discussion, and answer questions. Each student will attend two breakout sessions in the morning, followed by a guest speaker, free lunch, and two additional afternoon sessions.

Date: Saturday, October 7, 2017 9:00am - 2:00pm
Cost: FREE
Participants: Open to young ladies in all grades

Extra Curricular Activities for SY18
CMIT South held an interest meeting for cheerleading on July 20, 2017. Interested families were in attendance to hear more information about upcoming cheer camp and cheer programs for high school or middle school.

Attached also is PGCPS required medical form for all students participating in any interscholastic athletics. High school students wishing to participate in JV Boys Soccer will need to have this form completed and submitted to Coach Young by 08/28/2017. The Soccer season will begin immediately upon resuming in August.

Other sports available for SY2017 -18 are:

Boys and Girls Basketball (Middle School)
Boys and Girls Soccer (Middle School)

ARE YOU READY FOR SCHOOL?

As the new school year approaches,

Please go through the checklist to ensure that your scholar is ready for the first day of school. Please confirm that you have:

-- Acquired uniform tops (at least two polos)
-- Acquired uniform pants (Khaki or Navy Blue)
-- Acquired uniform shoes (all black, no colored insignia or sole)
-- Acquired PE top and bottom (all black bottoms, no colored insignia) middle school only
-- Acquired school supplies (please refer to supply list)

September 06 will be here before you know it. Do not delay, get ready for school.

SUMMER WITHDRAWAL INFORMATION
Families wishing to withdraw students during the summer break should note the following:

-- There is a 24-hour notice required for student withdrawal
-- Please send withdrawal requests to secretary@cmitsouth.org by filling out attached form
-- Withdrawal request should include student name, reason for withdrawal and next school/county
-- School is opened for summer hours Monday - Thursday, we are not opened on Friday.

What is the Uniform Policy?
The uniform policy can be found on our website, under Students tab. http://cmitsouth.org/uniform-policy/

How do we order uniform items?
Uniform items can be ordered by completing the online order form: https://anderon-mmp.myshopify.com/ or www.cmituniforms.com

Do I have to purchase uniforms from this vendor?

No, however, uniforms purchased from other vendors must have 100% identical color tone and the CMIT South logo. The current uniform vendor provides donation to the CMIT South PTO based on sales. Each uniform purchase from Minuteman Press is contribution to the school. 


What is CMIT South's Daily Schedule?
8:20am - 8:35am:
- Student arrival (drop off is at the side entrance)
- Doors close at 8:35am (after 8:35am parents need to sign late students in at the Front Office)

8:20am - 8:45am:
- Homeroom (Breakfast is available during this time until 8:45am)

8:45am - 2:49pm for 6th & High School grades and 8:45am - 2:54pm for 7th & 8th grades: 
- Academic instruction

2:49/2:54pm - 3:10 pm: 
Student pick-up outside (Students who are not picked up by 3:10pm will be waiting outside for their ride. There is no adult supervision for these students during this time).

Clubs and enrichment activities will begin immediately following dismissal. All club/enrichment participants must report directly to the cafeteria. Students who continuously fail to report directly to their designated locations will lose the privilege to participate in any after school activities. 

How do I pay for my child's lunch?
Breakfast and lunch are served every day. You can add money to your child's account by visiting this link. You can also pay by cash or money order in the cafeteria. 

Can my child bring their own lunch to school?
Students can bring a lunch from home. Lunches can be stored in the student's locker. Microwaves are available in the cafeteria to warm food. Refrigerators are not available for students. Lunch taken to lunch room should be consumed in lunch room. Student cannot return to locker after lunch. All lunch bags should be left in lockers if student do not wish to place in bins after lunch. Lunch bags are not allowed in class.

What do they serve for school lunch?
A monthly menu is provided by Food and Nutrition Services. Click here for lunch and breakfast menu.

What is the academic calendar?
CMIT follows the Prince George's County Public School calendar found here. To receive notifications of PGCPS school cancellations by providing information here.

Where can I find information about CMIT events and updates?
Every Friday CMIT South publishes its weekly newsletter. It is HIGHLY recommended that you subscribe to the newsletter. It is a vital means of communication between CMIT South and stakeholders.
