GENERAL NEWS
Honor Roll Ceremony
CMIT South held its first quarter honor roll ceremony. Many parents attended to celebrate Scholars' success and dedication.

Out of 560 enrollment, 317 students were listed as honor roll. 25 of those students are in Principal's list with 4.0 GPA. 62 students were recognized as Scholars of the Month.

Malcolm Doster, an honor roll student, revealed the secret behind his achievement; dedication, perseverance, and planning... His description represented the characteristics of many Scholars at South.

Congratulations to the CMIT South family and we look forward to seeing even more students at the upcoming honor roll ceremonies.

Tigers Roared
CMIT Tigers hosted the first ever home games at PGCPS tournament.

On Tuesday, CMIT South defeated Benjamin Stoddert: Girls won 46-6 & boys won 37-10. On Wednesday, CMIT South Tigers scored 47-37 against Imagine School. Imagine did not have a girls team for Tigers to defeat.

Breakfast with the Principal for the 6th Grade
CLF's traditional "Breakfast with the Principal" program starts for the school year. November and December are the months of the 6th grade breakfasts. 

During the sessions, I will have the pleasure of meeting parents within each college while going over the curriculum being taught, discussing the CLF school model, brainstorming to offer new opportunities for our students, and answering questions. Parents may RSVP at least 2 business days before the breakfast date.

BOXTOPS: Enter To Win
PTO is seeking student designed poster boards that creatively advertise support for Box Top for Education, www.btfe.com. One prize will be awarded to the best artistic submission for each grade level.
Contest will run from Friday, November 11 to Tuesday, November 22th.

All poster board must be 22 x 28 inches. Posters should encourage your grade level universities to bring in Box Tops as they help generate money for the school. Turn in all submissions to the front office.

CMIT- South invites all current 8th grade students and parents to attend High School Information Night on Thursday, December 15th, 2016. This is an opportunity for students and parents to preview high school course sequence and the special programs offered here at CMIT-South High school. Students and parents will also have chance to have in-depth conversations with our high school staff to get more detail about the high school programs.

ACADEMY NEWS
Student Service Learning Opportunities
Come volunteer with UMD College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the Sheridan Street and Field of Greens Community Gardens! We are looking for 80 volunteers to join us at our 3rd Annual Winter Work Day. We invite families, students, faculty, and staff to come out and help us clear plots, weed, compost and plant bulbs for the Spring. Community Service hours will be granted to all students who attend and we will provide morning snacks and lunch.

Location: 6200 Sheridan Street, East Riverdale, MD 20737.
When: Nov. 19, 2016
Time:9:00- 1:00

Please join us for the Berwyn Heights Town-Wide Clean Up on Saturday, November 12th, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Registration starts at 10 am at the Berwyn Heights Town Center --5700 Berwyn Road, Berwyn Heights, MD 20740.

Free pizza/drinks will be provided to all volunteers from 12:00 - 12:30 pm! Students can earn community service hours! Participants should wear pants, long sleeves, and closed-toe shoes. We will provide instructions and distribute clean-up supplies, (safety vests, rubber gloves, trash bags, and pickers). Participants will be given a map of the community and assigned a certain area to clean-up. Participants can either form their own groups, join in with another group, or walk the assigned area by themselves. ANNOUNCEMENTS & REMINDERS
Breakfast Hours
Food services personnel offers breakfast starting from 7:35 am every morning. Cafeteria doors are closed at 7:55. The students who are already in line will still receive breakfast but no more students will be accepted to the cafeteria once the doors are closed.

Please ensure to arrive at 7:25 am to get in line in the parking lot. Doors open at 7:35 for students.

High School Science Reminders
To all parents and students,
Do not forget that there is a Biology Unit 2 test before Thanksgiving Break! There is a study guide on Edmodo and it can be found in the folders section as well.

For Chemistry, there will be a short packet to complete, and it will not take very long. It is just to keep your naming skills primed and ready for post-Thanksgiving.

And to all again, enjoy the family, food, football and time off!

8th Grade RELA Book of the Months and Reading Logs
Hello Parents and Guardians,

Below you will find the list of Book of the Months for the rest of the 2016-2017 school year:

December: "Harlem" by Walter Dean Myers
January: "1984" by George Orwell
February: "Mississippi Bridge" by Milred Taylor
March: "The Narrative of Frederick Douglass" by Frederick Douglass
April: "Whitefang" by Jack London
May: "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott

Reminders for 8th Grade RELA:
1) Please remember to purchase or borrow your mandatory Book of the Month by the beginning of each month. You need to bring your Book of the Month to class with you every day. Please do not rely on the Chromebook as an alternative to having a novel. You must have a printed version of each Book of the Month.
2) English/Reading Notebook: Your English notebook needs to divided into three sections (Literature, Grammar, Vocabulary). Your notebook should be organized in that order. Please do not have any other work in your English notebook.
3) English/Reading Journal: You need a one-subject notebook for your Daily Warm-Up/Journal. This notebook should only contain your English journals. Your journals will be collected and graded periodically throughout each quarter.
4) Book of the Month Reading Logs and Vocabulary: Reading Logs and Vocabulary are assigned every Monday afternoon and due the following Monday by 7:30 a.m. Reading Logs and Vocabulary will only be accepted via Edmodo.

What is the Uniform Policy?
The uniform policy can be found on our website, under Students tab.

How do we order uniform items?
Uniform items can be ordered by completing the online order form: http://www.glenburnie.minutemanpress.com/cmit/welcome.html

Do I have to purchase uniforms from this vendor?
No, however, uniforms purchased from other vendors must have 100% identical color tone and the CMIT South logo. The current uniform vendor provides donation to the CMIT South PTO based on sales. Each uniform purchase from Minuteman Press is contribution to the school. 

What is CMIT's Daily Schedule?
7:35- 7:45am:
- Student arrival (drop off is at the side entrance)
- Doors close at 7:45am (after 7:45am parents need to sign late students in at the Front Office)

7:35 - 7:57am:
- Homeroom (Breakfast is available during this time until 7:50am)

8:00am - 2:49pm for 6th grade and 2:54 for 7th grade: 
- Academic instruction

2:49/2:54 - 3:05 pm
Student pick-up outside (Students who are not picked up by 3:10pm will be waiting outside for their ride. There is no adult supervision for these students during this time).

Clubs and enrichment activities will begin immediately following dismissal. All club/enrichment participants must report directly to the cafeteria. Students who continuously fail to report directly to their designated locations will lose the privilege to participate in any after school activities. 

How do I pay for my child's lunch?
Breakfast and lunch are served every day. You can add money to your child's account by visiting this link. You can also pay by cash or money order in the cafeteria. 

Can my child bring their own lunch to school?
Students can bring a lunch from home. Lunches can be stored in the student's locker. Microwaves are available in the cafeteria to warm food. Refrigerators are not available for students.

What do they serve for school lunch?
A monthly menu is provided by Food and Nutrition Services. Click here for lunch and breakfast menu.

What is the academic calendar?
CMIT follows the Prince George's County Public School calendar found here. To receive notifications of PGCPS school cancellations by providing information here.

Where can I find information about CMIT events and updates?
Every Friday CMIT South publishes its weekly newsletter. It is HIGHLY recommended that you subscribe to the newsletter. It is a vital means of communication between CMIT South and stakeholders.
