Pink Out Day
CMIT South supported Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a PINK OUT Day on Friday, October 28. All students and staff had an opportunity to wear pink to support this worthy cause.

Lottery Opens for PGCPS PCS for 2017-18

Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) public charter schools will be accepting online applications for the 2017-2018 school year starting November 01, 2016.

All Prince George’s County families can apply to a public charter school, as there are no attendance boundaries assigned to charter schools. Interested families must complete the online application for each child they wish to enroll.

Prospective public charter school families must ensure that the students has a PGCPS student ID to apply. If your student does not have a PGCPS ID, please visit your neighborhood school to get one.

Information Sessions for Prospective Parents
CMIT South will be holding two open house sessions for parents of students who are interested in applying to the lottery for CMIT South. This sessions will hold as follows:

High School Graduation Requirements
High school students must complete at least 21 credits to graduate from any PGCPS high schools. Students and parents may check the graduation requirement table above to monitor their earned credit, and future courses that student needs to enroll in order to graduate on time.

These are some highlights about CMIT-South course offerings in addition to PGCPS graduation requirements.

*All PGCPS graduation requirements applies to CMIT- South.

*CMIT-South currently offers A.P U. S History class and will enhance A.P class offerings for its students to meet their interest, needs and create more opportunities for students to achieve more.

*CMIT-South students who are in Information Technology Early College Program (ITEC) may complete up to 60 credits before graduating from high school and students have the opportunity to graduate at the end of four years with a high school diploma and an associate degree in Information Technology.

Come dressed with in your CMIT-South oxford and tie....and your smile!

All students will have their picture taken for the yearbook, even if you don't purchase a package.

Forms went home with students on Wednesday. You can prepay online on send your payment with your student.

Parent Shadowing
Dear Parents/Guardians:

CMIT-South requests you provide us 24-hour notice if you would like to shadow your child for a day. The request should be sent to:

----> secretary@cmitsouth.org <-----

...and received within our operating office hours of 7:30 AM - 3:00 PM, if you would like to shadow the following day.

Included in the subject line of your email should be Parent Shadow, name of your child (University). The body of your email should be your name and the date(s) you wish to shadow. Also please include specific classes you would like to shadow if not all.

Your email request will be processed accordingly when received in a timely manner. You will receive a return email if this request cannot be accommodated for reasons such as testing, for example.

Come out for some family fun at our 3rd Annual BINGO Night, tomorrow, Friday, November 4th. There will be a 50/50 raffle and 4 free raffles for students. Gift cards for every winner and 2 Super Prizes. BINGO cards are $2 each, 3 for $5 and 6 for $10.

Boxtops Results
Many thanks for all that were able to contribute to the October Collection Drive. We were able to collect $121.50. Top contributors, by university: 1) FAMU, 2) Georgia Tech, 3) Texas A&M.
The Box Tops program is a year-around effort. Additional activities will be forthcoming in the month of November and December. The goal this year is $1000. UPCOMING EVENTS
SGA's Middle School Fall Social!
In Lieu of a School Dance, SGA has decided to host a Fall Social Event on Friday November 18th 2016.

Admission will be $5 for the event. Tickets will be sold both in advance during school lunches on November 14th and 16th as well as at the door. Ticket price will increase to $7 at the door of the event.

Admission Cost will include
Ping Pong
Basketball
Karaoke
Face-painting
1 slice of pizza (while supplies last) and 1 scoop of ice cream (while supplies last)
Relay Games and other yard games such as the 3 legged race, ladder-ball, jump rope, and hula hoops

Student Service Learning Opportunities
Come volunteer with UMD College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the Sheridan Street and Field of Greens Community Gardens! We are looking for 80 volunteers to join us at our 3rd Annual Winter Work Day. We invite families, students, faculty, and staff to come out and help us clear plots, weed, compost and plant bulbs for the Spring. Community Service hours will be granted to all students who attend and we will provide morning snacks and lunch.

Location: 6200 Sheridan Street, East Riverdale, MD 20737.
When: Nov. 19, 2016
Time:9:00- 1:00

Would you please share this with students/organizations looking for community service hours? Thank you. We appreciate your assistance very much!

Please join us for the Berwyn Heights Town-Wide Clean Up on Saturday, November 12th, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Registration starts at 10 am at the Berwyn Heights Town Center --5700 Berwyn Road, Berwyn Heights, MD 20740.

Free pizza/drinks will be provided to all volunteers from 12:00 - 12:30 pm! Students can earn community service hours! Participants should wear pants, long sleeves, and closed-toe shoes. We will provide instructions and distribute clean-up supplies, (safety vests, rubber gloves, trash bags, and pickers). Participants will be given a map of the community and assigned a certain area to clean-up. Participants can either form their own groups, join in with another group, or walk the assigned area by themselves. Science Help
Just as a reminder for all students and parents, I will be offering office hours for high school students who need help in Biology or Chemistry. Here is the original announcement:

I, Mr. Wassam, will offer new office hours for Science tutoring. Office hours will be weekdays (Monday through Friday) from 7:15AM to 7:55AM. I will also be available Monday, Thursday and Friday afternoons from 3:00PM to 4:00PM. Afternoons are open for anyone as the room will be open.

8th Grade RELA-November's Book of the Month is...
"Eight Tales of Terror" by Edgar Allan Poe. Please make sure to purchase or borrow "The Pearl" by Monday, November 7th.

Reminders:
1) "Eight Tales of Terror" : Please remember to purchase or borrow your mandatory November Book of the Month- "Eight Tales of Terror" by Edgar Allan Poe. You need to bring "Eight Tales of Terror" to class with you every day. Please do not rely on the Chromebook as an alternative to having a novel. You must have a printed version of every Book of the Month.
2) English/Reading Notebook: Your English notebook needs to divided into three sections (Literature, Grammar, Vocabulary). Your notebook should be organized in that order. Please do not have any other work in your English notebook.
3) English/Reading Journal: You need a one-subject notebook for your Daily Warm-Up/Journal. This notebook should only contain your English journals. Your journals will be collected and graded periodically throughout each quarter.
4) Book of the Month Reading Logs and Vocabulary: Reading Logs and Vocabulary are assigned every Monday afternoon and due the following Monday by 7:30 a.m. Reading Logs and Vocabulary will only be accepted via Edmodo.

STEM and Makers Faire Deadlines
Here is the outline of dates, and approval process for the remainder of the year as finalized by the Science Department.

Monday Oct 31st at 7:30am. Research Paper Rough Draft Due (100 Points Assessment) for all students (students who do not have approved projects by 10.25.16 will receive a zero). Data collection, or project completion are not required for the rough draft.

Wednesday December 21st at 7:30am- Research Paper Final Draft (100 Points Assessment) due for all students to reading and science teachers. (Students who do not have approved projects by 12.01.16 will receive a zero).

Friday January 6th 2017- IN CLASS- Students turn in a Project Tri- fold board. (100 Points Assessment). (Students who are not approved by 12.01 will receive a zero)

Friday January 13th 2017- Students compete in the in house STEM / Makers fair at CMIT South.

ALL STEM and Makers Fair project components will be graded on the original submission, resubmissions are not permitted for an increase in grade.

Quarter Two is in full swing in 7th grade science. We have completed our unit on solids liquids and gases and are now halfway through our unit on atoms and the periodic table.

Students next Test will be on Solids Liquids and Gases as well as Atoms and the Periodic Table, this is projected to occur between Nov 16th and 18th.

STEM and Makers Fair Paper Rough Drafts are being graded. Please allow a full two weeks for this process to occur, as I spend 10-15 minutes per paper on each of my 125 students. I hope to have all papers graded by Monday November 14th.

Monster Mini-Golf Field Trip Attire
The Monster Mini-Golf Field Trip will be on Thursday, November 10th. Students going on the field trip will be expected to wear their gym uniform for the field trip that day.

What is the Uniform Policy?
The uniform policy can be found on our website, under Students tab.

How do we order uniform items?
Uniform items can be ordered by completing the online order form: http://www.glenburnie.minutemanpress.com/cmit/welcome.html

Do I have to purchase uniforms from this vendor?
No, however, uniforms purchased from other vendors must have 100% identical color tone and the CMIT South logo. The current uniform vendor provides donation to the CMIT South PTO based on sales. Each uniform purchase from Minuteman Press is contribution to the school. 

What is CMIT's Daily Schedule?
7:35- 7:45am:
- Student arrival (drop off is at the side entrance)
- Doors close at 7:45am (after 7:45am parents need to sign late students in at the Front Office)

7:35 - 7:57am:
- Homeroom (Breakfast is available during this time until 7:50am)

8:00am - 2:49pm for 6th grade and 2:54 for 7th grade: 
- Academic instruction

2:49/2:54 - 3:05 pm
Student pick-up outside (Students who are not picked up by 3:10pm will be waiting outside for their ride. There is no adult supervision for these students during this time).

Clubs and enrichment activities will begin immediately following dismissal. All club/enrichment participants must report directly to the cafeteria. Students who continuously fail to report directly to their designated locations will lose the privilege to participate in any after school activities. 

How do I pay for my child's lunch?
Breakfast and lunch are served every day. You can add money to your child's account by visiting this link. You can also pay by cash or money order in the cafeteria. 

Can my child bring their own lunch to school?
Students can bring a lunch from home. Lunches can be stored in the student's locker. Microwaves are available in the cafeteria to warm food. Refrigerators are not available for students.

What do they serve for school lunch?
A monthly menu is provided by Food and Nutrition Services. Click here for lunch and breakfast menu.

What is the academic calendar?
CMIT follows the Prince George's County Public School calendar found here. To receive notifications of PGCPS school cancellations by providing information here.

Where can I find information about CMIT events and updates?
