FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE
A Word of Thanks from the Assistant Principal's Office
CMIT Family, I want to thank everyone, starting with the students, staff, parents, guardians, Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation and the Prince Georges Public Schools at the conclusion of our most successful year yet. We have seen our students compete in STEAM Fairs, Science Olympiads, TRAC Bridge Competitions, SEA Perch underwater challenges and Cyber Patriot cyber security competitions along with sporting events of all kinds. We have watched them perform musical pieces and display their art proudly at county wide art shows. We have witnessed them growing as scholars and as people. Together, we have rejoiced during wins and have vowed to beat them next time during losses. We have done this all as a community and a family. I am truly proud of staff and families for always working together to do what was best for our students. I am equally proud of students for their struggles, their hard work and perseverance during tough academic times, changes in teaching staff and multitudes of tests they have had to complete. Mr. Brauer, Ms Linnenkamp, summer bridge staff and I will be working diligently this summer to provide the best possible educational experience for our students. We have heard your concerns, appreciated your feedback and will also be working over the summer to develop new programs based on those concerns and feedback for the upcoming year. We wish your family a happy, healthy and fun filled summer and look forward to seing you in September. Thanks, James Screven Assistant Principal

End of School Recycling!
Dear scholars and parents! As we come to a close at the end of the year, it's time for some "late" spring cleaning. As you clean out backpacks, binders, notebooks, under the bed, and the floor of the car (we all know someones homework was left there!) be sure to recycle any papers or plastics that you come across. Recycling helps reduce the number of trees that are cut down, emissions from paper processing plants, and more. Thanks for continuing to love our environment and our planet! Reduce, reuse, recycle! Love, Your CMIT North Recycling Program

TEACHER ANNOUNCEMENTS
Enjoy your Summer ! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) . -6th Grade Technology Students
Hello Students and Parents of 6th Grade technology students, The year has come to a close and it has certainly been a year to remember in the technology classroom. The year started off with designing dream rooms, creating comic strips to digital poetry. We have explored painting by number in Google Sheets to Website design using Google Sites. I have enjoyed every bit of the long school year working with the students and I will never forget the laughs that we have had as we looked at the new innovations and creations in the classroom. Our word wall was stellar because of you students and you all made it through the many technology assignments. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) LowPoly Images....Typing Test Coding.org.....Digital Self-Portraits Text Man....Digital Scrapbooks Invention Prototypes....Paint by Number Digital Poetry....Animation Internet Safety....Technology Paper Slide Shows Logo's.....Online Stores (Websites) I appreciate the parents that kept the room stocked with hand sanitizer and tissue for the students during the school year. As the year has come to a close and the students have had numerous assignments to prepare them for their technology needs, my hope is that they will be prepared to take the technology world by storm with a tool in their digital backpack to face everything head on. Enjoy the Summer students and learn while doing it. Engage, Explore and be Encouraged that mistakes must take place in order for learning to take place. May you remember the laughs as we looked at the digital scrapbooks. Recall the joys of coding on Code.org and never forget that research is only one Google Search away.( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Thank you all for the opportunity of sharing my days with you! P.S. the images embedded in this post are accomplishments from this School Year!

Draw it! Color it! - The Human Body's Organ System!
The Grade 8 students from OHIO, TEXAS, JHU, WAKE FOREST, and MIT wore their “Organ System” t-shirt project on Wednesday, June 5, 2019. The shirts were drawn using fabric markers, glitter, iron-on, or paint, permanent markers. Each student painted a “body system” to be very familiar with the organs of the body using a T-shirt with a sleeve. Also, The students did a presentation by mapping or tracing what occurs in the organ while wearing their t-shirt project. Thank you for your cooperation

Ms. Sumor's Farewell
Dear Scholars and Families, I wanted to take a moment to express how much I have enjoyed teaching your children this year. We covered a lot of material and the students handled it like champs! I especially have loved seeing the creativity in the students' Passion Projects, particularly this quarter's project on folktales. I wish all my scholars the best in 7th grade and hope they will visit me next year from time to time. Have a safe and healthy summer.

FAREWELL and Best Wishes from Mrs. Justsen
To the Class of 2023, It's hard to believe we have reached the end of the year! Looking back on everything we've accomplished... tens of debates and intense Shared Inquiry discussions; extensive novel studies and analyses of current events; SAT vocabulary (and those weekly quizzes you all have loved so much); and A Midsummer Night's Dream (don't forget Bottom when you leave this year!). Many of us have attended and participated in outside events like Book Festivals and meeting Nic Stone (DEAR MARTIN!!!!). I have loved all of this, watching you progress in your academic abilities (reading, writing, discussing, debating, THINKING critically about the information and narratives available to you)...but perhaps even more than that, I have enjoyed and appreciated our daily interactions. The sarcasm we've exchanged, the mannerisms and phrases we've coined together as a group... I have gotten to know all of you as individuals, and EVERY ONE OF MY STUDENTS this year has been a true JOY to interact with. I can say with 100% honesty...and surety... I WILL MISS YOU. You may be moving on to bigger and better things...9th grade...speciality programs...AP classes...ITEC... Please know that if you were my student this year, you can ALWAYS reach out to me for support. If you need a recommendation for a class or job...or you need someone to review an essay you've written...or you want someone to help you prepare a speech when you are selected as Valedictorian... PLEASE REACH OUT TO ME! You know my email and where to find me! I hope that you have a wonderful summer...that you read a good book (below are a couple of places to start for recommendations, or search your favorite novel on Amazon and see what comes up as suggested for you)...spend some time outside...go to a play or a museum or an historical site...WRITE A LETTER to someone who's important to you but with whom you rarely get the chance to talk...try a new food (remember our DELICIOUS Dill Pickle chips?! haha). Just experience something new! Thank you for a memorable, never-a-dull-day, comedic, and unrepeatable year. End of Year Preparation
Hello scientists! There are only a few days left of the school year but many years left of your education, so let's keep going! I will be handing out paper packets for a science refresher with all of our notes for the year as you transition into 7th grade. Be sure to review this packet over the summer so you can start off 7th grade on a strong note! This is for YOU to keep your science skills fresh so you can impress your 7th grade science teacher next year with the knowledge of our Earth Science subjects while you are learning about Physical Science and Chemistry of Earth and Earth's materials. Working on some math skills over the summer will also help your skills so you're ready for physics and chemistry problems. But remember...enjoy your summer!!! Parents! *The packet has your students name on it. It is titled "Summer 2019 Earth & Space Science CMIT 7th Grade Refresh Packet". Please make sure that you put this packet in a safe place for the summer when it comes home with your student on Wednesday June 12th. I will also be emailing you a PDF of the packet in case it becomes misplaced. *Student work from the year will be coming home with your student on Friday.

A Parting Word From Character Education
CMIT Community, At this time, I would like to take this opportunity to thank CLF, Principal Brauer, Assist. Principal Screven, School Councell, Mr. Johnson, Student Services Administrator Ms LinnenKamp, the entire 6th grade body of students, Teachers and Staff, for the privilege of allowing me to introduce and empower the students with knowledge of the Character Education Program, and the smooth transition. For it truly has been an awesome experience; which I greatly appreciate the privilege of educating the minds of our young scholars, our future leaders of tomorrow. of Life-Skills. Thus, Life-Skills fall under the umbrella of Character Education. Not only have the students been introduced to Character Education, but have been empowered with the importance of Life-Skills. Life-Skills are the skills "Society" expects one to automatically know. Allow me to share the topics and discussions of empowerment, and they are as follows: Self-Esteem & Self-Improvement (as well as how it develops) Setting & Achieving Personal Goals Making Decisions ((deciding things on their own) The 3 Cs of Effective Decision making Smoking Myths & Realities (Whose Using Drugs) Smoking and Your Body Other Ways Smoking Can Hurt the Heart Smoking & Biofeedback Effects of Cigarette Smoking Why Smoking Makes Your Heart Beat Faster Alcohol Myths & Realities (Drinking Facts) Reasons Why Many People Do Not Drink Getting A Grip On Reality Marijuana Myths & Realities Advertising (Common Advertising Techniques) Violence and the Media (What Is Violence) Coping With Anxiety (How To Decrease Your Anxiety) Coping With Anger (Staying In Control) Communication Skills (Why Communication Skills Are Important) Looking At A Recent Misunderstanding Communicating Clearly Skills for Avoiding Misunderstandings and Applying Communication Skills Social Skills Assertiveness Getting Over Being Shy How to be More Assertive Handling Difficult Situations Refusal Techniques Ways of Saying "NO"/Ways of Saying "NO" and Meaning It Assertive Action Plans Resolving Conflicts Changing You and Me to We Again, thank you everyone for your support, patience and all that you do. FAQs

Q: Is CMIT North MS a public school?

A: Yes We are a public charter school who is staffed by PGCPS teachers and administration, along with CLF staff. We also benefit from additional guidance, management and financial support from Chesapeake Light House Foundation, whose educational concept this school is based on.

Q: Do siblings get preference in applying to CMIT?

A: The process of gaining entry to any charter school in Prince George's County is through a lottery. However, siblings of already attending CMIT students are weighted differently during the lottery process. This different weighting gives preference to siblings.

Q: What makes CMIT different then any other school in the district?

A: Although we are a PGCPS public charter, we are given some autonomy over curriculum. This autonomy allows us to fast track students, who are academically ready, through selected high school courses in math, foreign language and technology. It is that fast tracking that opens up opportunity to more advanced  coursework on the college level while still in high school.  Additionally, we offer students supports and enrichments to every student, not available at most schools.

Q: Do you offer everything the big middle and high schools offer?

A: Unlike many school in Maryland, we do not have a  full spectrum offerings in sports.  Instead, our focus is on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics). Therefore, our sports offerings are more limited.  We offer, boys and girls soccer, basketball, boy's softball, boy's baseball,  boys and girls track/field at the high school. With that said we recently (2017) won the girls county basketball championship and made it to the playoffs in soccer. Our High school recently opened a multi-million dollar, state of the art gym complex. The middle school has also added an indoor gym space.  Lastly, we do offer special educational services, but becuase we are a school of choice, the amount of service hours we can provide is limited to 7.5 hours a week. Services hours are delivered by special education teachers but are limited to literacy and math courses.
