Earth Optimism Prepares for Competition
Hello CMIT! It's no secret that climate change is a prevalent issue and that we must take action NOW. Many of our students here at CMIT are becoming more environmentally aware each and every day. Specifically, students in Mrs. Cunning and Ms. Gonzalez's Earth Optimism Club have been working hard this year to develop projects that cover various environmental issues and school-based action plans. The group topics cover E-Waste, Ocean Acidification, Drain Filters, Composting, Fertilizers, and Water Conservation. Through their action plans, students are aiming to involve their peers and community in their efforts to help decrease our carbon footprint, mitigating human contributions to climate change. Students will have the opportunity to present their plans to the Lewis Museum, Laurel City Council, Smithsonian Institute, and World Wildlife Fund representatives in a 'Shark Tank' style competition against other local schools. They are competing for seed money to implement their environmentally friendly solutions at the local level next school year. If they are awarded this grant money, students and their project plans will lead the school community to take action in saving our world! Wish our Earth Optimism Club good luck as they prepare to present their project plans this week! We invite you to support our students and view their presentations virtually on May 17th at 3pm! Please see the Zoom and flyer links below: HTTPS://SMITHSONIAN.ZOOM.US/J/82812964938 MEETING ID: 828 1296 4938 PASSCODE: 987050
