CMIT North High School has a reputation for being one of the best STEM schools in the country, engaging students in real engineering and design challenges and connecting them to career opportunities.
Morgan Pringle, who placed third in the PGCPS District in Environmental Engineering last year, competing with more than 400 projects, The Clean Air Partners, the Association of Women Geoscientists (AWG), and the MIT Club of Washington also bestowed Meritorious Awards on her. Morgan represented CMIT on the health risks of poor air quality for Clean Air Partners as part of the AWG's humanitarian issues and as a voice to effect positive change in the world.
Jasmyne Wilson placed first in cellular and molecular biology. With very few points away from the Intel ISEF (national) competition, her project was highly recommended to challenge this year's competition.
Finally, Cameron Salisbury was given a special invitation for an NIH position, the Eunice Kenedy Shiver Summer Internship program. G-SOAR students will spend the summer of 2022 working at the NIH side-by-side with some of the world's leading scientists in an environment devoted exclusively to biomedical research.

SAT MOCK Test
|
A successful SAT MOCK test was held last Saturday, February 26, 2022, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria. This test is very "crucial" before the actual test on March 02, 2022. Our goal is to help our scholars score higher than the PSAT to positively achieve the best opportunities for college and scholarship applications. The Full-Length SAT practice tests help students overcome test anxiety and become more familiar with the testing's content and timing.
SAT Mock test results are available for parents and administrations to review.

Ms. O'Donnell's classes create INSTAGRAM accounts for characters in A TALE OF TWO CITIES
|
Ms. O'Donnell's 10th graders have been reading A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens and studying character development and language. Dickens is not an easy read, but these students are starting to appreciate the imagery and elegance of DIckens. As a way to illustrate how the language influences the characterization in the story, the students created an Instagram Account with posts for each of the characters. They worked in groups and had to collaborate on making the posts specific to events or characters in the story. They also had to work with other groups to coincide their posts, especially if the characters had a connection. Below are some of the examples. The students did an outstanding job!!

What's happening in the Art Room?
|
Art 1 is working on Black History Quote Posters. Their task was to visually represent a significant quote from an African American in history.
Art 2 finished their pastel macro drawings (which can be seen here) and started work on their Alma Thomas paintings. They studied the work of prominent African American painter Alma Thomas (first African American to have her work displayed in the white house) and are creating their own watercolor designs in Thomas's signature style.
Art 3 is continuing their printing unit. They just finished up their practice carving linoleum blocks and will be printing their final designs based on Elizabeth Catlett's work next week.
