Senior Picture Update
|
If you had your picture taken in December, you should receive an email with your senior proof and package order information very shortly, if you have not already.
I have been keeping in touch with the photographer regarding the second round of pictures--the personality/casual/athletic poses. Here is his response as of last week:
Hello,
I am still working scheduling this. Unfortunately a lot of people in the office and field are in quarantine or recovering at home. This is why it’s taking longer. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
As soon as it is scheduled, I will let you know.
If you have any questions, please let me know.

HOMEVISITS - reconnecting with Families
|
As we build new systems to safely educate students and support families, the foundation for success remains the same: relationships. This is what makes CMIT unique. We go above and beyond to check in with our families and keep the learning framework intact despite the periodic variations of virtual and face-to-face instructions.
We reviewed our students' grades, standardized test scores, how their afterschool activities aligned with their prospective careers, and how they navigate their way to college over the weekend with our administrators, counselors, coordinators, and teachers, & discuss it with our parents and students through the homevisit program.
We are more than grateful to the parents for their warm welcome and never-ending appreciation for this homevisit program.

FORENSIC MOCK TRIAL - INCREDIBLE TEAMWORK
|
Overwhelming teamwork and perseverance have been demonstrated by the Forensic Mock Trial Team that fought over Frederick Douglass High School on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. Judge Dennis from Cirtcuil 7 couldn't have been more proud of our very own student, Gabrielle Hernadez, who was awarded as the best plaintiff attorney in the competition. While Phoebe Brown was the best witness, our students were praised for their public speaking, critical thinking, and art of forming a persuasive, cohesive argument.
The team stayed and fought till almost 9:00 o'clock in the evening to give our school prestige. You might think you already know how to give a good speech or that you're pretty good at debating with your friends, but Mock Trial is on a whole other level. Assume you're delivering a direct examination and the other team's attorney raises an argument you've never considered. You must deconstruct the argument, apply federal rules of evidence to it, come up with two counter-arguments, and then condense everything into a three-sentence answer. You only have roughly 10 seconds to complete the task.
When you see these students, please address your congratulations to them as they work around the clock to bring prominence to CMIT. Emnete Theodros and Lea Brooks, Grade 10 (Counsel/Lawyer 1) Gabriell Hernandez-Grade 10 & Naysa Wayne Grade 11(Co-Counsel/Lawyer 2) Rachel Salazar-Aparicio, Grade 10 (Witness 1). Genesis Edwards-Grade 10 (Witness 2) Carlos Lopez-Ramirez, Grade 10, Nketchi Ekekwe, Student Coaches, VeaFrancine Corder, Grade 9, Bailiff Phoebe Brown-Defendant/Plaintiff Kelly Shawm-Grade 11, Reliever Lawyer Huda Chaudry-Grade 9, Nahome Nonila, Grade 9 Reliever Lawyer.

TUTORING AND ACADEMIC SERVICES
|
Sometimes we feel it's awkward or cumbersome to think we are being tutored. However, after the quarter grades and issues like difficulty submitting work on Canvas, too much time being in virtual learning, and other things, students should consider getting help. CMIT Tutoring & Academic Services gives free assistance to improve grades, support academic challenges, and basic homework help. We have high-caliber tutors to help anyone struggling with a difficult subject. In addition, our tutors have approaches centered on students' strengths to help them feel less stressed about the subject. Finally, our tutor can customize the program to tailor it to your needs to pass your course, including honors and AP courses. They can help develop basic study habits and strategies that can be used in the student's essential skills. Parents may request a tutoring schedule. However, students must attend classes regularly with a specific schedule (each session or tutoring time is 1 hour).
We will release in a couple of weeks the data on how many of the more than 100 students who availed of our tutoring made progress through the quarter.
For more details please email, gclarke@cmitacademy.org.

UPCOMING EVENTS

|
Saturday Academy with Dr. Chute of St. John Hopkins University, Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Health Informatics
|
John Hopkins University, School of Medicine, and Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Health Informatics, Dr. Christopher Chute, will be visiting CMIT Saturday Academy from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon on February 12, 2022, to provide our students with hands-on knowledge on the importance of health informatics.
If you want to pave your path in a field that combines healthcare and technology, health informatics is an ideal choice. Not only do health informatics occupations enable you to use your technical abilities to better the lives of others, but they also provide competitive income and job stability due to the industry's growing demand for competent personnel. Dr. Chute will help students explore the potential and significance of health informatics in representing COVID-19 medical data to forecast trends at the population level and discover predictors, treatments, and mitigations.
I am also pleased to inform you that Dr. Chute runs on several large national class grants funded by the National Institute of Health in the United States.
* All attendees are required to have their publicity release form
* For further information, email gclarke@cmit academy or ggraham@cmitacademy.org.

CMIT 2ND ANNUAL STEM FAIR - February 05, 2022
|
A few updates and specifics regarding the STEM Fair:
This year’s STEM Fair will be asynchronous. Students will submit video presentations, and the top candidates will be questioned by a judging panel the following week. Below is a list of what to expect on Saturday, February 5, 2022.
1. All judges will attend a Zoom meeting on Saturday, February 5th at 9 a.m. for instructions on how to access the judging portal. This is when you will be provided a link to the judging portal with login instructions.
2. Once logged in, you will be prompted to check student folders that include their PowerPoint/Slides and video presentations.
3. Judges will have until 2 pm that Saturday to judge approximately 15-20 projects, but this number is subject to change as more teachers sign up to be judges.
4. The judge will evaluate the students according to the STEM rubric we will share with you. Since this is asynchronous judging, please note any questions you might have for the students that the judging panel can ask on your behalf the following week.
5. The highest-ranked projects will be presented by the students on Tuesday for a Q&A session in the media center. All teacher judges are welcome to join STEM Team as part of the judging panel.
The top 6 students will advance to compete in the district competition.
If you have talent in judging STEM Fair and plan to help the STEM Fair as a community judge, please fill out the link below:
