BREAKING NEWS
Principal's Message
Dear CMIT North High School Parents and Guardians, Spring is here! The blossoming trees and warm weather remind us of the promise of spring and the progress we have made through this challenging year. It is hard to believe that we only have about 35 days of school left to wrap up this unprecedented school year. Starting the second week of April, CMIT North High School had an opportunity to welcome our hybrid learners into the school building. It was exciting to see our students in the building moved from class to class, and observing our students learning activities that are remaining virtual for the last few months of this very unique school year. We have 13 hybrid learners for Monday-Tuesday sessions and 16 hybrid learners for Thursday-Friday sessions. Spring is always busy and exciting for the CMIT North High School professional learning community with graduation preparation, school-wide activities, statewide/national competitions, club activities, etc. We have a lot of great news to share with you such as 1st place winner of national math competitions, top award winners in the science fair, CMIT/NSBE students received highest awards in Ten80 Autonomous Vehicle Competition, great SAT participation, and scores for Junior class, and more. Please check out our newsletters and website for more information. Please join us on our social media accounts. We are uploading our activity videos on the CMIT Academy youtube channel, it will be great having you subscribed so you can receive notifications to join our live sessions as well. I would like to say a special thank you to our green club for organizing wonderful school-wide activities. I enjoyed seeing student leaders and dedicated teachers make earth day more meaningful for our community. One CMIT, on one Earth! Average SAT scores increased from 1032 t0 1053 (it looks like we are adding 21 points every year). We all know that what we have had to deal with this year because of COVID 19. It is amazing to have these improvements continuously with our exceptional teachers and students. Also, we are working on the building improvements during this time. CMIT North High school will update the front desk area, gym, media center, computer labs, science classrooms, art room, music room, and science labs. We were working on the grant application last summer and finally, we are receiving payoffs for all of these busy summer hours. I would like to say thank you to our school team and CLF for helping me to complete this application successfully. We are going to have smartboards in our classrooms to support teaching and learning activities. I am excited to announce that our media center will be a fully decorated library with books, computers, and study areas! Our computer lab will become an I-Mac lab! We are working closely with CLF to complete these building updates before the next school year. Thank you for your continued support and kind words! I am thrilled to be part of this amazing professional learning community!

CMIT's Legacy of Environmental Movements
Since the very first-day celebration of our Earth day in CMIT in 2015, Ninety-five percent (95%) of our student population advocated for millions of people from all walks of life and joined the broad movement to protect the planet. This year, Earth Day was credited with launching the modern environmental action - Virtual Celebration with the Theme, One CMIT, One Earth __Restore Our Earth. The Celebration started with environmental advocacy videos shown during the morning announcement. Students from grades 9 to 12 created videos to educate their classmates and the public to remind them of their role to support the green environment. (Please see CMIT Academy Media for all the videos Created and the morning Announcement during the week) Four weeks before the Celebration, One hundred eighty logos were submitted that made a strong first impression of how we value Environmental Sustainability. (Please see related News: Earth day Logo Competition Winners). Great Videos from our teachers, supporting Climate Literacy Campaign and rendezvous' future generations' most critical issue that the Earth is sick, needs our attention. On Thursday of April 22, during the second period, three important environmental activists paneled on Youtube live streaming: A motivational Speech from Retired Adjutant General Debra Howell from the US Military; A discourse was rendered by Ms. Ester Mitchell, a representative agriculturist from the office of Associate Director Dawn Hawkins of the Prince Georges Department of Environment; and Director Eric Moberg talked important information on solar energy. We had 476 views that stay during our presentation, which is four times more than the expected listeners. (with 667 views at the present moment while writing this newsletter) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPuPgTO2ZyC2WQoTOgBislA. The event concluded with the student's pledge to keep a green generation. Ultimately, on Friday, April 23 at 3 PM, more than 65 students (our zoom attendance ranges from 65 to 72) joined the Kahoot Environmental Environmental Sustainability. What was most exciting is that it was amazing to see these students sharing their opinions and information that they researched and learned after the game. I can't be prouder to be a part of this educational journey where students greatly impact and inspire each other. To the community, our parents, staff, administrators, and students, a huge thank you for all your assistance.

CLF`s TRAC Bridge Contest
CMIT-N HS students participated in CLF`s bridge tournament to test their bridge designs on Saturday. They came in their individual appointment slot to reduce the number of participants in the building at the same time. The competition was smooth and great success during COVID-19.

ENVIRONMENTAL KAHOOT
There’s never been a better time to play awesome kahoots around climate change, energy-saving, and other environmental topics. On Friday, April 23, 2021, Grades 9-12 played and encouraged meaningful discussions on Environmental Changes. I have never seen a huge crowd of students on a platform that explored their feeling on an educational topic. It did not even matter who won the Kahoot; The students hanged -on for more than an hour of discussions. The chat room was flooded, providing information that opened them to criticism and analysis. There was so much passion that they explored and enjoyed. By sharing their thoughts, they were also learning how to express themselves to the world. With confidence and pride, I can say that CMIT teachers produced strong, powerful, and intelligent students.
