HS BREAKING NEWS
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Guardians, I would like to highlight that our students need more support from adults around them more than ever. As a mom of three teenagers, I can clearly observe the stress level caused by COVID-19 and recent news on social media. I believe it is important to have conversations with our young ones more often to ensure they feel safe and heard. Please let the school administration and counselor know if you need any support on this matter. After hearing about George Floyd’s death and seeing as everyone watched without action as he was suffocated, it brought me great horror and automatically made me evaluate the racial injustices that have been present. This is not the only case, we have seen this happen over and over again from Breonna Taylor to Freddie Gray to Ahmaud Arbery, and more. I urge all of us to work together and ensure that we treat each other with respect and value the diversity in our community. We have seen that the youth in Maryland have taken charge and want their voices to be heard. Seeing young people take a stand against injustices brings me great hope for the future. I firmly believe that all staff share the responsibility to create a safe and supportive school climate and will push to achieve that during these hard times. I hope that each one of our students not only succeeds academically but feels comfortable and heard in our school community. I would like to take a moment to announce that CMIT North High School became a green school! It is wonderful news to share with the CMIT community which shows a high level of collaboration and commitment! I would like to thank Dr.Clarke for organizing activities during the application process and Green Club students for their amazing work and leadership! Also, our CMIT North High School senior packet distribution was successful. It was nice to see all of the seniors ready to experience college and work life, but it was also sad that we could not provide a proper celebration at this time. In fact, PGCPS did not cancel graduation; it is postponed, and we will inform you of the timeline related to graduation events as it is updated. Stay Safe!

CMIT High School | Officially a Green School!
On June 1, 2020, the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE) announced that Chesapeake Math & IT North High School has been officially certified as a 2020 Maryland Green School. The collaborative effort was made through the excellent participation of the students, staff members, parents, and administrators with a special mention to Mrs. Ozturk for her benevolent support. As a result of our Maryland Green School achievements, we are now eligible to earn an award through Eco-Schools USA, a National Wildlife Federation (NWF) national and international recognition program. MAEOE and NWF have partnered to offer additional recognition, support, and resources to all Maryland Green Schools. Next school year, the green school team would like to bring certified environmental and STEAM programs for more achievements. CMIT highlights the top 5 accomplishments this year: (1) Increased Environmental Instruction that allows our students and staff to explore environmental issues, engage in problem-solving, and improve our school. As a result, each individual in our school develops a deeper understanding of ecological problems and has the skills to make informed and responsible decisions about it. (2) Recycling Program Established, where more students understand that recycling benefits our school, the community, and the environment. (3) Clean-Ups at CMIT and the Patuxent River - CMIT students removed trash and debris from the school and the Patuxent shoreline and surrounding park to help reduce waste that makes its way into the river, impedes the river flow during rain events and contributes to pollution that threatens the health of both animals and humans. (4) Students were allowed to act as state delegates and propose an environmental bill to help reduce pollution in the Chesapeake Bay. (5) America Recycles Day and Virtual Earth Day celebrations promote recycling and raise awareness to practice recycling. file:///C:/Users/Teacher/Desktop/Green%20School%20Certifiate%20Chesapeake%20Math%20%20IT%20Academy%20PC%20High%20School%20North.pdf https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITrXY51yWV4&feature=youtu.be

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Why we need salt for ice cream*!
Science education continues at home. Chemistry H. and AP Chemistry students enjoyed home experiments. They made ice cream or completed an osmosis experiment. Science is fun! *Salt is mixed with ice outside the ice cream mixture. As salt dissolves it absorbs the heat from the surrounding (ice cream mixture). So, the temperature decreases and the ice cream mixture freezes.
