X-STEM ALL ACCESS
|
Dear CMIT Family,
The USA Science & Engineering Festival offers great live stream events. See the message below for details.
"The USA Science & Engineering Festival team is working hard to reschedule our postponed events. While we await the opportunity to bring back our live Festival, we are excited to offer a FREE virtual version of our X-STEM conference to students across the country!
X-STEM All Access – presented by AstraZeneca – is a virtual interactive speaker series designed to inspire students, teachers, and parents. Moderated by science educator and communicator Justin Shaifer, X-STEM All Access will be presented as a series of five daily livestream events featuring an exclusive group of visionaries aimed to empower students about careers in STEM (speaker lineup coming soon).
During this time of distance learning, we hope that educators and parents can utilize X-STEM All Access as a fun educational resource for kids.
Save the dates and register today from the link below:
https://usasciencefestival.org/x-stem-all-access-2020/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=Register%20Here&utm_campaign=Newsletter%20Emma

HS BREAKING NEWS

Principal's Message
|
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I am glad to announce that CMIT North High School is a 2020 Best High School, based on U.S. News & World Report rankings. There were only three other top-ranking schools from Prince George's County!
https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/maryland/districts/prince-georges-county-public-schools/chesapeake-math-and-it-public-charter-200387
In additional news, online learning is still in motion with the dedication and hard work of every teacher. It has been successful so far and students are showing academic improvement even throughout this hard time. We must continue supporting our students to keep up the success and process this time of transition. I am aware of how hard this has been for students, teachers, and parents. However, as a community we have been supporting each other to our best abilities, and we will continue to do so.
Remember that this is our virtual spirit week. We look forward to our students sharing pictures of their Tiger Pride!
Please stay safe. We will get through this together!

Q4 Updated Grading Policy | Stay the Course
|
Good morning, CMIT Families:
PGCPS has updated its grading policy for the fourth quarter to allow students to improve their final grade in their courses. Students who complete the fourth quarter of a course with a P will receive three quality points for that course. In other words, students can increase their average grade for the first three quarters by three points, which in some cases will move them to the next letter grade. This is great news for any student that hoped to show growth during this last quarter of school. Stay engaged!!
Follow this link to view the county's policy: https://www.pgcps.org/coronavirus/distance-learning/cards/4th-Quarter-Grading-Policy/

March SAT Results Are In
|
The March 4th SAT test results are in. Congratulations to the CMIT community, students, teachers, and parents. CMIT 11th-grade students continue to make significant gains. While county and state scores went down, CMIT scores went up from last year to this year. Our scholars lead the way by scoring higher than the county and the state. We had 113 students that took the SAT test, and here is how they did:
SAT 2020 RESULTS:
- CMIT Mean score: 1032 (Went up by 21 points)
- PGCPS mean score: 886 (Went down by 5 points)
- Maryland mean score: 920 (Went down by 12 points)
SAT 2019 RESULTS (Last year)
- CMIT Mean score: 1011
- PGCPS mean score: 891
- Maryland mean score: 932
These results were, of course, a calculated effort of our students' determination and hardwork along with teachers' continuous support and guidance. A huge thank you to our 11th-grade college summit teachers, Ms. Beamon and Ms. Blackwell as well as our CMIT alumni who made themselves available to work with our scholars on Saturdays since September!
Thank you for the awesome work you do every day,

STAMP Department Updates
|
Hello Students and Families!
The STAMP (Spanish, Technology, Art, Music, PE) Department would like to start off by saying WE MISS YOU!!!!!! and we hope everyone is staying safe. We all appreciate everyone's flexibility and efforts to ensure that we have a smooth transition into distance learning. Our department would just like to remind students to keep checking their Google Classroom pages for assignments and class updates. We also want to encourage each of you to attend the weekly virtual classes because like I said, WE MISS YOU! and each of us is working hard during these sessions to provide material that answer your questions and that we think is beneficial to each of you.
If you need anything do not hesitate to contact your individual teacher for clarification of assignments or virtual class times.
Thank you and we hope to see you virtually this week!

Ms. Coholic's Science Classes
|
Hello Everybody!
Hope everyone is well.
Students, when joining Zoom meetings, use your first and last name so teachers can recognize you in the waiting room and pull you in. :) On one of our first meetings a couple weeks ago, a 'Zoombomber' caused a disruption. So now, when I start the meeting (always about 5-10 minutes ahead of schedule) I can start to see your names, knowing that you're there, and move you from the waiting room into the meeting. Hopefully, that will put an end to anyone wishing to disrupt. But if I cannot tell that it is you waiting to join, I will remove you. So please, use your first and last name. :)
BioGeoChem had a review of the water cycle with a little more learning added. For resource management, human activity and impact will be looked at more closely. For this coming Wednesday's lesson, we will put some meat on the bones of water management by looking at some examples of how humans strive to work with nature in successful resource management.
Physics will begin circuits and common symbols this coming Wednesday as well as work a problem set. The class notes will be uploaded as well as the worksheets. We may have a short quiz.
Assignments are due at 10:00 am on Friday; however, if you have an AP class requiring more work as you prepare for your online AP test, you have until 11:59 PM on Friday before your work is considered late.
As I mentioned in the meetings, Work-Life Balance is always a good thing. Get some fresh air and exercise kiddos! Enjoy a hobby to give your mind a break and refresh your thinking. Help out around the home. I miss you all!
