Attendance Matters | Updates to PGCPS Administrative Procedure 5113
|
CMIT Families:
Please take some time to review Administrative Procedure 5113 carefully for updates. Consistent attendance is important for students' academic development, and it is being monitored more intentionally this year. The entire policy has relevant information, but take special note of the following:
-- Parents or guardians must notify the school when their child is absent in the form of a written note (email may be acceptable), no later than three days.
-- A written explanation of each absence is required from the parent/guardian within three (3) days of the student’s return to school. The note must indicate the dates and reason for the absence(s).
-- If the student has missed 3 school days in a quarter, the parent(s)/guardian(s) should be called or emailed by the teacher.
-- Students who are considered lawfully absent from school or a class will have the opportunity to make up missed assignments.
-- Students who are considered unlawfully absent from a school or a class will not have the opportunity to make up missed assignments.
-- A student with unlawful absences will receive a “failing” grade for any day(s) of such absence(s). The failing grades will be averaged with other daily grades. Failing grades for credit courses is zero percent.
-- Teachers should enter 0 (zero) in SchoolMAX for unlawful absences and add a comment to the note section “unlawful absence”.
ALL NOTES FOR EXCUSED ABSENCES MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE FRONT OFFICE.
Respectfully,
HS Administration

Forms Due + SchoolMax Access and Monitoring
|
Hello, CMIT Families:
We have reached the end of the first two weeks of school during which time administrators reviewed school policies with students and teachers reviewed policies, procedures, and syllabi in their classrooms. Hopefully, students have had an opportunity to share these discussions and expectations with you.
If you have not already done so, please review and sign your student's course syllabi as well as the attached PGCPS Publicity Release Form and Acknowledgements Page of the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook. Students should return the signed course syllabi to their respective teachers and the release form and acknowledgements page to their first period teacher.
Now that we are settling in to the school year, students consistently will be receiving more content-focused instruction and assignments. This is a good time to establish routines with your student around checking SchoolMax for grades and attendance and to encourage them to check in directly with their teachers when they have questions or concerns.
Let's work together toward a year of productivity and growth!
Best,
HS Administration

CMIT Before and After School Enrichment Programs
|
It's still not too late for students to become part of the CMIT Academy North HS Morning and Evening Enrichment Program.
For parents and students in our northern cluster of schools, after school arrangements can be a challenge. In the 2019-2020 school year, the Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation (CLF) will continue to provide the enrichment program as a way to make this new year as stress-free as possible.
Our morning enrichment program provides parents the flexibility to their morning schedule by allowing enrolled scholars to be dropped off as early as 6:30 am.
Scholars enrolled in our afternoon enrichment program will be able to be picked up from school as late as 6:00 pm. While in the enrichment program, students will receive a quiet area conducive towards completing homework and school projects. The high school enrichment supervisor is a professionals specializing in a variety of academic areas who will be able to assist students with homework and other assignments.
For information about enrollment, please refer to the brochure at the web link below:

PSAT/SAT School Day Dates and Important Information
|
9th Grade:
*Students will take the PSAT 8/9 on October 16 in school for free.
*If students would like to take the PSAT 8/9 in December, instead of in October, for the Speciality Program applications, they must sign up through the county and pay through the county. For more information, you will need to speak to the testing office for the county.
*Students can only take the PSAT 8/9 once per semester.
10th grade:
*Students will take the PSAT 10 on March 4 in school for free.
11th grade:
*Students will take the PSAT/NMSQT on October 16 in school for free. This test gives students opportunities for scholarships.
*Students will take the SAT with essay on March 4 in school for free. This test is for college admissions and college and career readiness standards.
There are no make up testing days in school for SAT or PSAT. It is extremely important that students are present and on time on these testing dates!
To get previous scores or get your new scores when released, students need to create a College Board account and select Chesapeake Math and IT Public Charter to link their scores. The school does not have access to account information. If you are having issues with your account, please contact College Board directly.
For practice, we have found the Khan Academy has a great program to help students boost their scores. For more information about the tests, please visit Collegeboard.org.
