Principal's Message
|
Dear CMIT North High School Parents, Guardians, and Students,
I hope you enjoyed a wonderful summer and are ready to start a new school year! As your new principal this year, I’m honored to join your team and begin the 2019-2020 year with great spirit!
At CMIT North High School, we strongly welcome your positive energy and dedication to create a safe, orderly, and ready-to-learn school atmosphere for our professional learning community.
I enjoyed and learned a lot from you all during our parent workshops and student leader meetings. The leadership team has reviewed all feedback and designed our action plans based on the outcomes. We will continue to have these workshops and meetings to provide the best education for our scholars.
CMIT North High School’s enthusiastic and hardworking team members have spent the entire summer thoroughly ensuring school and academic plans will be ready and organized. It was wonderful seeing our staff members work hard to make school a positive experience for all students, and your feedback helped us reach the goal.
I would like to thank CMIT North High School PTO for welcoming our teachers during pre-service week activities! It is evident that we are a caring community with common goals.
I believe we are going to have a wonderful and proactive school year together as the CMIT North High School team. It remains an honor and privilege to serve as your principal!

From Mr. Avsar | Welcome Back!
|
It has been a tremendous honor to serve the CMIT North High School community for the past seven years. This year, I will be serving as the assistant principal for the 11th and 12th grade students. We have many exciting programs that will prepare our students for their post-secondary goals. I am also going to serve as the assistant principal in charge of Mathematics, English and Science Departments to ensure our programs are meeting the needs of all learners. In my vision of student learning, I will do my best to ensure that all students are afforded the opportunity to actively participate in challenging and engaging experiences that help them become productive, and responsible members of the society. I look forward to creating a collaborative working environment that will bond the students, staff, and parents throughout this great journey!
Warm Regards,
Ferhat Avsar, M. Ed.

From Ms. Colandrea | Welcome Back to School!

Hello, 9th + 10th Grade CMIT Families!
The end of summer is here, and it's time to take all the rest, relaxation, and reflection we enjoyed over the summer and put it to good use. It is going to be a fantastic school year. I will be continuing in my role as assistant principal but will focus this year on students in the 9th and 10th grades. If you have questions or concerns regarding students in these grades, I will be your point of contact and, as such, happy to help where I can after you have worked with the teacher. I also will be working with our teachers in the Social Studies department, Special Education department, and combined department of Spanish, Technology, Art, Music, and PE (STAMP).
Our teams have been building capacity to support students academically and are increasing efforts to have students think about the importance of good character as well. We believe that this will result in more students setting and achieving goals and an even greater number of student becoming leaders in the building and community. One of the biggest ways you can help us in this effort is to check in with your student to make sure they are prepared for school everyday:
- Have they had enough sleep?
- Are their assignments complete and ready for submission?
- Do they have proper materials for engaging in the classroom?
- Is their uniform compliant with school policy?
- Have they communicated with their teachers or me if they are having problems with these (or other) things?
It is worth acknowledging that we cannot succeed as a school without the support of our families. I had hoped to make more home visits this summer, but time worked against me. I would still like to connect with you if you are interested, so email me. Maybe set up a brief phone call with me. I look forward to us supporting each other as we support our students.
Families, note the Back to School Night dates for each grade below. (The dates on the PGCPS website are incorrect.) I hope to see you there!
- 9th Grade Back-to-School Night: Thursday, September 5 from 6pm to 8pm
- 10th to 12th Grade Back to School Night: Thursday, September 12 from 6pm to 8pm
Let's have a great year!
All the best,
Tammy Colandrea | 9th + 10th Grade Assistant Principal | SPED, Social Studies, + STAMP Departments

The STAMP (Spanish, Technology, Art, Music, and PE) Department would like to welcome the students back for what we all hope will be a great 2019-2020 school year. Each teacher is setting the bar high for your student and has been working hard the past few weeks to put together a classroom in which academic rigor is at the forefront. Each member of the department looks forward to working closely with students and families to ensure a successful school year. If there are ever any questions please feel free to contact the teacher. Physical Education
|
Welcome back everyone. Students who have and will have any physical education class this year MUST PURCHASE AND WEAR THE CMIT PE UNIFORM. It is my recommendation that everyone should purchase the uniform at the beginning of the year. The uniform includes the PE shirt and PE sweatpants and shorts and SNEAKERS! I would recommend getting more than 1 set as everyone will have class 2-3 times per week.
Let's have a good year.
