MAKERFEST is NEXT WEEK! Join us on Saturday, May 4th for the STEAM Extravaganza!
|
Held on the first Saturday in May, this will be the 3rd Annual MakerFEST, CLF's yearly STEAM Festival celebrating our community's inner genius! CLF schools are now eight programs and six institutions across the State of Maryland serving over 3,200 students K-12! MakerFEST invites these students to participate with staff, parents and our wider CLF STEM community partners to feel encouraged to exhibit and enjoy all the day's inventions, artwork, personal projects, experiments, robots, wild creations, noble attempts, fine solutions to typical problems, and makers making so much more!
CLF will also have volunteer opportunities available for anyone who wants to help build the best MakerFEST ever!

This year, the first Saturday in May happens to coincide with May 4th, often celebrated by fans of the widely popular Star Wars franchise.
We fundamentally feel obligated since astronomy, space exploration fit all too well into the MakerFEST concept, so Community Partnerships is also encouraging all exhibitors to share their project progress with @CLF_CLF on twitter or @ChesapeakeLighthouseFoundation on Facebook with the hashtag #MayTheFourthBuildWithYou.
Until next update, May The Fourth Be With You!

HS BREAKING NEWS

Decreasing Student Tardies | Update
|
CMIT Families:
Last week, we reinstated hall sweeps in an effort to decrease the number of students who are lingering in the hallways after the late bell rings. Students responded, and the hallways were clear much quicker than in previous months, which means we are able to maximize classroom time and instruction. Students received a dress down day for their efforts last Friday. A huge thank you to those of you who have and continue to support our efforts to improve student outcomes. Our student support staff appreciated the email responses from those of you who replied to their emails to say that you would work with your students or encouraged ongoing dialogue with student support staff about your student's performance.
Last week, students who were found in the halls after the bell received warnings, and their parents were contacted. This week, we will begin to apply consequences.
Please continue encouraging your students to:
- pay attention to the time as they move between classes
- move into their next classrooms (or cafeteria during their lunch time) as soon as possible during bell changes
- get passes from staff if they will be tardy and it should be excused
- remember that they should not leave classrooms until after the first 10 minutes of class
Also, remind students that they are also expected to be in the cafeteria by the time the late bell rings as well. This caught some students off guard last week. Students who may need to be in other places in the building during their lunch time should have a paper pass or pass in the e-hall system.
Respectfully,
HS Administration

The Problem with Lunch Deliveries...
|
Hi CMIT Families:
We are in need of your help. Of late, we are having problems with food deliveries coming to the school for students. While we are invested in making sure students have lunch each day, we want to maintain safety and order in the building. If your student should forget lunch, the cafeteria can provide a meal for the day. If you would like your student to have a special treat, consider purchasing it the night before. There are options to warm up food in the cafeteria.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
