UPCOMING EVENTS
Have You Signed Up For MakerFEST 2019?! ***REGISTER TODAY!***
Held on the first Saturday in May, this will be the 3rd Annual MakerFEST, CLF's yearly STEAM Festival celebrating our community's inner genius! CLF schools are now eight programs and six institutions across the State of Maryland serving over 3,200 students K-12! MakerFEST invites these students to participate with staff, parents and our wider CLF STEM community partners to feel encouraged to exhibit and enjoy all the day's inventions, artwork, personal projects, experiments, robots, wild creations, noble attempts, fine solutions to typical problems, and makers making so much more! CLF will also have volunteer opportunities available for anyone who wants to help build the best MakerFEST ever! To register for an exhibition space visit https://www.clfadvancedstudies.org/makerfest For volunteer opportunities visit https://goo.gl/forms/y1qs5zfo8OPOuRo92 This year, the first Saturday in May happens to coincide with May 4th, often celebrated by fans of the widely popular Star Wars franchise. We fundamentally feel obligated since astronomy, space exploration fit all too well into the MakerFEST concept, so Community Partnerships is also encouraging all exhibitors to share their project progress with @CLF_CLF on twitter or @ChesapeakeLighthouseFoundation on Facebook with the hashtag #MayTheFourthBuildWithYou. Until next update, May The Fourth Be With You!

Q3 Report Cards + Grade Changes
Hello, CMIT Families: This year, the county has adopted new procedures for making quarterly grade changes. The biggest difference is the enforcement of a cutoff date. Third quarter report cards will be distributed on Thursday, April 11th. Please review them closely. If you find that a grade change is warranted, you must complete and submit the attached form to the front office by Friday, April 26th. For more information, review Administrative Procedure 5116, which can be found on the PGCPS website. Respectfully,

Tammy Colandrea Assistant Principal

Uniform Policy Update
Hello, CMIT Families! As of April 1st, students are permitted to wear Crocs as part of their school uniform (but not the gym uniform) as long as they are wearing the straps across the back of the shoe to make sure it is secure to the foot. Other acceptable items in the daily uniform include school polos with CMIT logos in gold or purple, spirit wear tops (including hoodies as long as hoodies are not worn in the building), and Oxfords with logos on special occasions. The only acceptable school bottoms on daily basis are tan khakis or navy blue khakis (not joggers or cargo pants). Gym uniforms include both the gym t-shirt and shirts or shorts, all of which have the CMIT logo. Head coverings are still not permitted unless they are for religious or health reasons. As we approach the end of the school year and the change in weather begins, a growing number of students are testing the limits of this policy. Families, we would appreciate your support to make sure your student is in uniform everyday. Respectfully,

Decreasing Student Tardies
CMIT Families: After the Spring Break, we will be reinstating hall sweeps in an effort to decrease the number of students who are lingering in the hallways after the late bell rings. We can use your support. Please encourage your students to: - pay attention to the time as they move between classes - move into their next classrooms (or cafeteria during their lunch time) as soon as possible during bell changes - get passes from staff if they will be tardy and it should be excused - remember that they should not leave classrooms until after the first 10 minutes of class Consequences for tardies will begin with lunch detention and escalate quickly if they continue. We appreciate your support in this effort. Respectfully,

International Women's Day Clothing Drive
A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to our very bountiful clothing drive in March! We received more than 14 boxes/bags of clothing for both adults and children. All items were donated to the Grassroots Day Resource Center (Jessup) and St. Ann’s Center for Children, Youth, and Families (Hyattsville). With your help, we were able to make a positive impact in our community. A special shout-out to Ms. Angie Boampong, Coach Abdi, and the basketball team for their support and for helping transport the items.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Ms. Coholic's Science Classes
Hi Students and Parents, I hope everyone enjoys the break! BioGeoChem students will take a very short practice MISA on April, 24 and 25 before we begin a unit review on resource management and sustainability in preparation for the unit test to be held around April 30 and May 1. Physics students will be continuing with waves with a wave quiz to be held sometime after returning from the break. We still have a way to go in waves before moving on to optics - hopefully in early May. I'll see everyone of my smiling students when we return to school Tuesday, April 23, refreshed and ready to finish out the school year on a high note. :)
