What is the FIRST Robotic Competition?
From the outside, the FIRST Robotic Competition (FRC) is a robotics competition for high school level students. Students from across the world will be challenged with a game that robots will compete in. Then, as a team, they must design, build, document, and test their robot for competition season, where their robot will play the revealed game against other teams’ robots. FRC has gotten so big that the organization had to have two world championships to fit all of the teams across the world that qualified. What makes FIRST, the parent organization of four separate robotics competitions, including FRC, different is that the robots are just one aspect of the greater picture. In FIRST, the name of the game is collaboration. The competitions are not about destroying the other team. They are about competing with all you got and helping any team that wants it. What is the point of being number 1 if number 2 could not do their best? That’s not to say that the competitions are easy, for within the arena, nothing is held back.
Come January 5, 2019, the game for that season will be revealed. From that point, all teams only have 6 weeks to design, build, document, and test their robot, and then no one can touch their robot until 24 hours before a competition. The six weeks leading up to competition seasons will be hard. For this reason, FRC pre-season training sessions will be set up for those interested in joining the world of FIRST.
Below is a list of some of the tasks needed for a team to succeed in FRC.
- Website Creation
- Website Management
- Website Maintenance
- Team Outreach
- Digital Design
- Digital Media
- Programming
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Game Strategist
- Safety Captain
- Team Ambassadors
- Active Human Player
- Strategy Assessment
- Engineering Journalist
Furthermore, there are a lot of scholarships out there that are awarded to students that have attended FIRST (e.g., $2,000 yearly to FIRST students who attend Capitol Technology University).
So, Golden Tigers, who’s ready for FRC?

Dress Down Not Earned
|
Starting 2nd Quarter, the school only needs to improve their tardies by 10% from one week to the next in order to earn their dress down day. Based on 248 tardies from 10/29 to 11/2, this week's goal was 224 (even though we had a day off). Unfortunately, the schoolwide count was 251, so a Dress Down was NOT earned for next week. Next week's goal (even with no school on Monday) is 226 or less tardies.

Administrative Procedure 5116 | Grade Change Authorizations + Appeals
|
Hello, CMIT Families.
The first quarter has now drawn to an end, and we want to make you aware of some new administrative procedures set by the county. All grade changes must be entered by a specific date after the end of each quarter. In order for this to happen, parents and guardians or students who believe a grade was entered incorrectly must make grade appeals WITHIN FIVE DAYS OF THE RELEASE OF REPORT CARDS.
Ideally, we would like to minimize the number of grade changes that must be made after the end of each quarter. To assist with this, families, please be sure you are monitoring SchoolMax and reaching out to your student's teachers as soon as possible if you have questions about the grades your student is receiving.
Respectfully,
CMIT Administration

Charter Schools Lottery 2019
|
Hello All!
It is that time of year again when the lottery period opens for prospective students. Please see information below regarding applying for the upcoming school year 2019-2020.
Applications can be completed by visiting http://lottery.pgcps.org/. All applications are given a waiting list number based on their Specialty Program choice, grade level, and sequence number. Submission of an application is not a guarantee of placement.
The computerized lottery system will assign a random number to each application. Applications are sorted based on this randomly assigned number and assign a sequential number. The lowest random number is assigned number one, the next lowest number two, and so forth. Applications are then sorted by program. Placements are then made on space availability basis only.
The application form permits multiple Specialty Program choices per student. If more than one Specialty Program choice is selected, each choice will be treated equally and placement will be made according to the first available opening. Placement is granted for one Specialty Program choice only. Once placement is made, the other Program selections are no longer an option.
Online applications will begin starting November 1, 2018 through January 25, 2019. The lottery will be held at the end of March. Announcement of student selection will not be made at that time. Students selected through the lottery will be notified by mail. Assignments will be made from the waiting list until September 30. Waiting lists will not carry over to the following school year. Continuous updates will not be provided. Notification will be made only when space becomes available.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out via email or phone call.
Thank you in advance.
