BREAKING NEWS
Allergy Season Is Upon Us

Spring is in the air and so is the pollen. Seasonal allergies can be a nuisance, but they can also be disruptive to students who are suffering with symptoms in class. Allergy symptoms include sneezing, congestion, a runny nose and other bothersome symptoms. Please be mindful that the health room does not have general use medications.

If your child needs eye drops, Benadryl, or any other medication for allergy relief, please provide the medication along with a physician signed medication form to the school nurse. The form for prescription and non-prescription medications can be found at http://www.pgcps.org/health-forms/.

Additionally, please take note of the following allergy relief tips, which can be found at https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hay-fever/in-depth/seasonal-allergies/art-20048343 . They provide information that may be useful in relief of symptoms in the school setting, as well as home.

Meeting for London, Normandy, Paris Trip

There will be a general interest meeting for high school and middle school parents interested in sending there student(s) on a summer 2019 tour of London, Normandy and Paris. Dubbed the WWII tour, we will have an opportunity to see the Turing Machine at Bletchley Park, considered the worlds first modern computer, made famous in the movie "Imitation Game." We will see the underground command center of Winston Churchill. We will make the same journey that tens of thousands of soldiers did across the channel and visit Normandy, known as the the epicenter of the D-Day invasion. CMIT Families - All Hands on Deck to support our Basketball Programs!!!
We had an amazing 2017/18 basketball season and are already preparing for next season to ensure we reach even bigger heights! Coach Abdi has created a project request on a 501(c)3 charity website called DonorsChoose.org.

CMIT Families, we are asking for your donations to purchase a Basketball Shooting Machine for all players in middle and high schools. Through April 30, any donation you make will be doubled! Your tax-deductible donation will help our teams compete at the highest levels and open up the wonders of basketball to more students! If you know anyone who is passionate about education and basketball, please pass this along.

To learn more or donate:

Visit Coach Abdi's Project on DonorsChoose.org
During check-out, enter the word RIPPLE where it says “Promo or gift code,” and your donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $50.

This RIPPLE promo code will only double donations through April 30 but you can still donate through August 23.

Please feel free to send questions to Coach Abdi at amohamed@cmitacademy.org.

Teen Miss Maryland Earth

Congratulations to the 2018 Maryland Earth United States titleholder: Agatha Dulce

Teen Miss Maryland - Agatha Dulce

Agatha was born on the beautiful Philippine islands in the Fall of 1999. Currently pursuing a degree in business with a pre-law track at the University of Maryland, Agatha plans to establish her own law firm and become an immigration attorney upon graduating law school. Since the fifth grade, Agatha has held many leadership positions, from SGA Vice-President to Math Team Leader and so much more. She is also a servant leader in her community, volunteering as a tutor for middle school students. Agatha’s focus this year is to spread the ideals of ecopreneurship and instill the virtues of servant leadership into the minds of today’s youth. Ecopreneurship encourages people to seek eco-friendly solutions that will not only benefit their community, but themselves as well. The servant leadership philosophy puts the needs of one’s community and others over one’s own self interests.

Congratulations, Agatha!

This Week's Classes
Hello,

My biology classes are continuing to work through chapter 12 DNA. We have discussed the structure of DNA and how it is copied. Next week we will discuss how DNA is converted into protein.

My honors chemistry class has continued our discussion about the difference between covalent and ionic bonds. We will continue to discuss these differences next week and end with a discussion about molecular shapes or the VSEPR theory.

As always, please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Have a Great Weekend,

Mr. Fleming
