Middle School Teacher of the Month
|
Our November Teacher of the Month is Ms. Swann! Ms. Swann takes on many additional responsibilities above and beyond the requirements of her job. She volunteers to be the 8th Grade Team Leader and "runs the 8th grade team LIKE A BOSS!" She will do anything for her colleagues and for her students. Her love for the kids is evident, sincere, inspiring, and comes to school each day with a smile. She cares about EVERY student and remembers the birthdays of students, even those she doesn't teach! CMIT is very lucky to have such an amazing professional as part of our team.

After School Tutoring Update
|
This is a brief update about after school tutoring at CMIT North Middle School.
Due to the limited amount of staff available after school, after school tutoring is currently paused. Thank you for your patience, as we work diligently to increase our tutoring staff to accommodate students' needs.
When after school tutoring begins again, students and parents will receive an email invitation. Please keep in mind that if the staff is limited, the number of students that can attend tutoring will be limited as well.
We are requesting that if a student does not have an invitation, they do not attend because we will not have enough tutors to accommodate them.
Once again, thank you for your patience as we work through these changes.

Science Olympiad's First Saturday Meeting
|
This Saturday, 16 students attended CMIT’s first MS Science Olympiad weekend meeting and immediately got to work. First things first, our beloved shirt design team started creating prototypes of our team’s future T-shirts, which we will be wearing to our first competition next month! Students also prepared for their own individual events such as Write-It Do-It, which is Science Olympiad’s weird take on Pictionary. In addition to that, students took a test questioning them on our solar system. Students also constructed their models for this year’s building events, such as Towers and Battery Powered Buggy. Everyone also had fun building the towers using nothing but straws and tape, which not only had to be as tall as possible but had to also be sturdy enough to support a whole tennis ball. Talk about about a challenge! Students overall worked productively on their events, and come next month (February 28th) at the Regional competition, we hope to see you there supporting. Go Tigers!

It's Time to Revisit Policies & Procedures
|
Hello, CMIT Families!
The winter break and recent snow days gave us opportunities to relax and detach from school. They also give us opportunities to forget. To help students, families, and staff get back into the routine of the school day, we will be revisiting our policies and procedures so that we are all working with the same expectations.
This week, please check your email to find the uniform policy and student handbook. (The uniform policy will have some key updates, so review it carefully.) We will be sending these to students as well and soon will hold town hall meetings for students during school to review them in detail.
Respectfully,
HS Administration

Anatomy & Physiology
|
Hi Students,
Due to the winter storm last week and resulting loss of class time, our quiz on the outer and middle ear will be held this week. We will also complete part 3 of the ear (inner ear) if we haven't been able to do so by the time of the upcoming quiz. We'll complete the nose/tongue after the ear unit. This should still allow us time for preparation for your final presentations for the semester.
See you in school!

AP Biology Class Featured in WJLA-TV News Report
|
Just prior to our Christmas Holiday break, WJLA Television station personality, Kelly Lynn, showcased our new High School. One of the major highlights was the feature of our Advanced Placement Biology class. With little to no notification, our scholars performed as only we know they are capable of. They made us proud as they displayed their laboratory skills. Please enjoy the photograph and video attached of our excellent students. Congratulate our scholars for their ability to always be ready to assist in showcasing their skills as top-notch representatives for our school. Science Department Updates
|
January 02, 2018
Welcome back!
I hope that each of you had a wonderful break and enjoyed special time with friends and families. It is remarkably restorative to be away from our everyday tasks from the time being. I am very confident that our scholars return to school with renewed enthusiasm and vigor. The start of a new year provides an ideal time to reflect on where we have been and where we are heading.
To ensure our scholars can achieve their highest potential, a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in their education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.
Moreover, as science department chair, I would like to remind that our STEAM FAIR competition will be held at CMIT High School gym on January 20, 2018. There will be seven (7) of the top students from each university who will be sent to the school wide competition. Please review the STEAM FAIR rubrics on how the students’ projects will be judged.
Additionally, the science Olympiad will be held at the University of Maryland on February 24, 2018. CMIT Academy North will be treated as big schools which will compete with both building and academic skills.
Furthermore, there are 2-3 educational field trips lined up for the third quarter for grade 6 and grade 8 respectively. Supplementary details will be announced as soon as each trip is approved.
Lastly, we ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:
1) Attends classes daily and arrives on time - ready for the day’s learning experience 2) Completes all assignments given 3) Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve science literacy skills 4) Shares school and laboratory experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her science school life 5) Informs you if he/she needs additional support 6) Knows that you expect him/her to succeed
It is very important that you and our scholars are fully informed regarding science courses standards related to appropriate behavior for a safe and productive classes. The wonderful science teachers and I feel privileged to be your partner in your child’s scientific learning.
Very respectfully yours;
Gemma Y Bognot CLARKE, Ph.D Science Department Chair
