The Science Olympiad Team Needs Parents, Coaches, and Donations
|
I’m glad to say that we are getting back into the routine of things. We have been meeting after school on Thursdays with 7th-8th-9th graders and on Fridays with 6th graders. During these meetings, we have been discussing each student's events and what we can do better. Our hope is to get first place at regional finals and go to state finals. To get back into the routine of all our events, the students are individually practicing their events. Previous Science Olympiad members are helping by passing their expertise onto the newcomers. The students are more motivated this year to do better than last year; they are hoping to have higher placements and more medals. We just continue to encourage them to keep studying and bringing forth their absolute best.
This wouldn’t be possible without the support of the parents and the other teachers, and we would love for more parent coaches and teacher coaches. This we bring forth smoother and more beneficial meetings. If you are available to be a coach, please contact Mr.Bayram at nbayram@cmitacademy.org
Lastly on the list are donations for the Science Olympiad team.
Here are the steps to donate: 1. Visit myschoolbucks.com 2. Select the school store 3. Filter by school Chesapeake Math & IT Academy 4. Search through listed pages 5. Select Science Olympiad Donations icon.

A.P Science Travels to H.B. Owens Science Center with Ms. Cline
|
On Thursday, 14 December 2017, the Advanced Placement Biology and Advanced Placement Chemistry students traveled to the Howard B. Owens Science Center of PGCPS to conduct two of the numerous laboratory experiments required, by the CollegeBoard, for the laboratory segment of the A.P. Science courses.
The Bioenergetics lab was insightful, allowing students to utilize corporate and government level science equipment, while providing hands-on, real-world science with preparatory assignments prior to the lab, intense experiences during the lab and post-lab work to finalize the projects.
The lab is led by Mr. White as I provide assistance in ensuring that students are following directives in a safe and educational environment. Gratitude is granted to Mrs. Fai Nelson for chaperoning the trip, although her students have not yet advanced to this level of science achievement due to their age and grade.
As always, CMIT North High School was well represented as our students performed as stellar scientists-in-training during this exceptional degree of learning.
Please view photos of some of the intense work our students were able to successfully complete during this visit

Mr. Bayram's Physical Science
|
We passed another week full of fun in science class. Students focused on the periodic table more and did more periodic table activities.
We used Plickers in Science class. Many students submitted their STEAM Fair poster boards by Friday. Extra time was given for students who needed it. They will make a two minute movie not to have any late submission deduction. After Winter Break we will start Chemical Bonding.
