CMIT Fall Sports Wrap Up
|
What a way to start the school year off. Our fall sports took on many great and competitive schools. Please see below for more details of each specific sports team's season.
Middle School
Softball Our Softball team went undefeated this year and made it to the final rounds of playoffs. Unfortunately, last week's game ended the season for our girls against Kettering Middle School. The girls worked hard the entire season and it paid off with an undefeated record!
Baseball The Baseball team season started off slow, however, things picked up towards the end. With several conflicts preventing them from competing, such as the weather and unsafe field conditions, the boys were able to finish their season strong.
High School
Girls Varsity Soccer The Girls Varsity Soccer team had a wonderful season, with a few bumps and bruises. These young ladies made it to the second round of playoffs, where they took on our sister school CSP. The girls put up a good fight, even with an injured player, and ended the season strong.
Boys Varsity Soccer Our boys Soccer team had their best season yet! They made it to the first round of playoffs where they took on CSP. The season ended for them with great hope and experience for next year's journey.
Please help us by congratulating each one of these athletes on a job well done!
All records will be posted on the school's athletic website soon. A big thank you goes out to all Coaches, Teachers, and parents who assisted with this successful season.
Now, we are on to our winter season with the following sports offered:
Middle School Boys Basketball Girls Basketball Cheer
High School Varsity Boys Basketball JV Boys Basketball Varsity Girls Basketball Varsity Cheer Indoor Track
Please continue to view the newsletter for athletics updates. Thank you.

Girls Softball Team Takes 2nd Place
|
Congratulations to the Lady Tigers Softball team! They were runners-up for the County Softball Championship for middle schools. These young ladies are to be commended for their hard work, dedication and skills. The team played hard and competitive all season. This team of 8th graders have paved the way for rising students who will play softball next year! We had 20 girls on the team with 17 being 8th graders. Of the 17, there were 7 that have been part of the program since they were in the 6th grade.
As shared with the players as well as the supporting parents, this team is ready to play at the high school level.

CyberPatriot Launches in the Middle School
|
CyberPatriot got off to a strong start thanks to Ms. Omur, Mr. Caldwell, middle school and high school respectively, and Mr. Serey Sok, from our IT department. Ms. Omur, pictured here, helps students celebrate a scored point in the competition. CyberPatriot is a cyber security challenge that has school compete against the clock and the scores of schools across the country. In the process, the students learn important skills to secure stand alone computers and networks.

Science Homework for Ms. Coholic's Classes
|
Hi Students and Parents,
We had a successful first quarter overall, but a few tweaks are needed to assure the school year is an outstanding school year. I'd like to more rigorously enforce the homework policy that was discussed with students during the first week of school as well as reiterate the absence and tardy policy.
For my classes, homework is posted in the Google Classroom with a date due as well as posted on the agenda whiteboard in the classroom next to the doorway.
Beginning the week of November 13, all homework assigned will be due at the beginning of class. I will NOT accept late homework anymore, not even for partial credit. Not even because a student was absent with an excused absence or failed to show for class.
For excused absences AND where students missed more than one consecutive class period, I must have confirmation from the Front Office that an excused absence was documented. In that case, the student must STILL turn in the homework by the start of the due date class period because it was posted in the Google Classroom.
The only homework exception I am willing to entertain is this: UNLESS I deem the student missed the relevant instruction to complete the homework assignment, it is due on the due date at the start of the class period.
As a reminder, there is no extra credit for missed work to bring up grades prior to progress or grade reports. Please keep in mind that SchoolMax and PGCPS has set the weighted value of homework as 15% of the progress and grade report grade. I cannot change that. Obviously then, a student may have earned 100% (an A) on all assessments and classwork, yet turned in NO homework, and the published grade will be an 85% (a middle B), and I cannot change that.
Each time a student is tardy to my class, a 1 point penalty for that day's classwork will be applied.
Good habits are forming! And all of CMIT's students will be college and career ready prior to graduation. Last year, several juniors asked me to promise them that I would see them through to graduation and on to college. I intend to keep that promise. :)

Ms. Sumor's Classes
|
Welcome to Quarter 2! Our theme for this quarter is "The Power of Story: Theme is the Heart of the Story." Our essential question for this portion of the quarter is: How does conflict drive the plot? We are reading a series of short stories with rich plots and controversial conclusions.
To wrap up this unit, students will be writing a narrative essay in which they create a prequel, sequel, or an alternate point of view for one of the stories. This assignment will give students an opportunity to showcase their creative sides. I can't wait to read them. Up next: Shakespeare!! We will be reading the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet, five sonnets, and portions of Julius Caesar this quarter. I am truly excited to expose our scholars to these great works.
