|
Hello, High School Students and Parents,
We are happy to announce that after school club activities will start in the first week of October. This year we are offering a variety of extra-curricular club activities. Many of these programs wouldn’t be available without our club sponsors such as Capitol Technology University, National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)- Future Innovative Rising Engineers (FIRE), teachers and parents. There is a $10 club participation fee for all high school clubs. This is a one-time fee and it is not per club. (Please read description of clubs carefully as some clubs may have extra fees.)
Club selections will be done online through CLF Portal. The due date for club selections is on Friday September 29, 2017. Please note that after school club activities have eligibility requirements. Students must adhere to these requirements to take part in these activities. Therefore, make sure to read all the descriptions and requirements before you make any selection. Should you have any questions in regards to a specific club please contact the teacher or club sponsor. For general questions about our club programs contact Mr. Avsar at favsar@cmitacademy.org

Uniform Reminder | Fall is Here
|
Can you believe it? Friday marked the first day of fall. This means over the next several weeks, the temperature will be dropping. Does your student have the necessary outerwear to stay warm? According to the Uniform Policy, students are only permitted to wear CMIT windbreakers, fleeces, and sweatshirts inside the building. If you believe your student may need one of these items, consider making arrangements to purchase them in advance. Our vendor is All American Wear ( www.allamericanwear.com). The uniform policy can be found on CMIT's website ( www.cmitacademy.org/uniform-policy). There will be no exceptions to this rule. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Mrs. Omur's Tech Class
|
Hello from Mrs.Omur,
First of all, I want to say thank you to all parents for Back To School Night. It was very nice to see you all.
Secondly, I want to keep you updated about our Technology class and what we have done so far.
AUBURN, SOUTH CAROLINA and UMD had a good start for the school year. They had an idea about what computer science is, why they need this class in their daily lives and for their future careers.
After that, they finished their "Computer Components" projects to understand what devices, tools, and gadgets they need in order to run their computers. Then they presented their presentations in class to show their understanding for this project. And wow! They did a great job.
On the other side, they started to explore functions a little bit in Microsoft Excel and did their first assignment about functions where they found max, min, average values for some of the states' population and land area.
Also, they got their "Key Terms" for Microsoft Excel, and prepared their "Excel Key Terms Catalogue." For this catalogue, they used Snipping Tool in order to find the terms in Excel and to get the pictures of them. After getting the pictures, they combined them with the definitions and finished their catalogues with Microsoft Word. It was very nice to see all different types of colors, borders, styles that they used for their catalogues which also reminded them Microsoft Word tools.
**Next Week** On Monday, Sep 25th, they will take a quiz about "Computer Components."

Hello from Mrs.Omur,
First of all, I want to say thank you to all parents for Back To School Night. It was very nice to see you all.
Secondly, I want to keep you updated about our Technology class and what we have done so far.
CLEMSON, FISK and AMERICAN had a good start for the school year.
Also, they got their "Key Terms" for Microsoft PowerPoint, and prepared their "PowerPoint Key Terms Catalogue." For this catalogue, they used Snipping Tool in order to find the terms in PowerPoint and to get the pictures of them. After getting the pictures, they combined them with the definitions and finished their catalogues with Microsoft Word. In this assignment, they had a chance to remember "Microsoft Word Tools." All different styles, colors and borders were good to see in their catalogues. Yes, they are on our bulletin boards now!
Let's keep this success going.
**Next Week** On Monday, Sep 25th, they will take a quiz about "Computer Components."

Health with Ms. Lawrence
|
We are quickly approaching the completion of the first month of school! All students in the 7th and 8th grade have completed SLO pre-testing and have started covering human body systems. All students have been using course textbooks to label different parts of the body and stating the functions of each body system.
Students are required to have a health section/tab in a three ring binder (may share with other subjects) where they can chronologically store their classwork. They should always bring lined loose leaf paper and a pen/pencil to class.
Student have NOT yet been given a Google Classroom code, however, the plan is for them to have one by the end of the week.
As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to e-mail me!

Mrs. Justsen's English 8
|
Another wonderful, productive week has flown by! In just a week, students have significantly improved both their their annotating skills and expository writing with our Article of the Week! Last week we discussed "Inside America's Lottery Addiction," and students offered some creative solutions to curb some of the problems that the lottery causes. We came to understand how the lottery affects those who play -- and that even the winners aren't guaranteed happiness!
In the upcoming week we will discuss how sitting for too long each day can shorten your life (this wasn't a huge surprise for some of our students, as it's been on the news lately and some of them -- to my chagrin -- watch the news)! Please see the attached article and make some time to chat about it with your child.
Students also received their first set of SAT vocabulary! Cards are due on Monday. We will also have our first vocabulary quiz on Monday! We played several review games in the past week, but students will need to review the words (meanings and spellings) more at home.
In the upcoming week we will be reading a few more stories by Edgar Allan Poe. The students' first experiences with Poe last week garnered positive responses, and I think they're excited to find out what more he has to offer in the way of gothic literature.
Have a great week!
Danica Justsen, NBCT
