New School Hours
|
Please take note of school the school hours below:
High School 7:50am - Student Arrival and Drop Off 2:45pm - Student Dismissal and Pick Up
Middle School 8:05am - Student Arrival and Drop Off 2:55pm - Student Dismissal and Pick Up
Elementary School 7:35 am - Student Arrival and Drop Off 2:25 pm - Student Dismissal and Pick Up
These changes were made after consulting with the other CMIT North schools, the CMIT North PTO, and the Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation. The new schedule will best allow parents, buses, and carpools to drop off students at all school locations without the concern of tardiness. Due to the opening of the new high school the staggered start times were necessary. We understand that the change may cause some difficulties for some families, however, this schedule meets the needs of the majority of stakeholders.

Class of 2018…..Introducing Your Peer Leaders!!!
|
If you could describe a College Summit Peer Leader in three words, they would be innovative, dedicated, and influential. Four students, Sydney Baucum, Hannah Browne, Tristan Hayes and Lauryn Simenton, have displayed these qualities and many more resulting in them becoming this year's Peer Leaders. Additionally, Peer Leaders create a college going culture throughout the school and ensure that students have a solid plan after high school.
As a result, the Peer Leaders created three campaign goals for students: 1. Students must complete three or more college applications to the best of their ability. 2. Students must complete early filing for FAFSA (Federal Student Aid). 3. Students must have a correlation between their academics and their careers.
To complete these goals, the four students participated in a four-day College Summit Peer Leader Program training them to assist their peers in the college process. Moreover, CMIT is providing a College Summit class with every Peer Leader as a guide to help seniors with college essays, teacher recommendations, and so much more.
We look forward to working with the Class of 2018!
Sincerely, Your Peer Leaders

Interested in Lacrosse?
|
This message is from PG Pride, if you have any questions please contact info@pglacrosse.com
Welcome to the PG Pride Fall Intramural League! Register TODAY for this exciting new format that now also include HS players.
***New: High School play *** We want to encourage high school players to register for this league. High school lacrosse is still new in our public schools and we want to give local HS players an opportunity to sharpen their skills in the fall and our alumni a chance to remain part of the Pride.
Games will be small-sided, meaning players will have more touches on the ball. Grades 5 and up will play a half-court format. Games will be played on Sunday afternoons at Riverdale Recreational Park. Each age group plays during a fixed 1.5 hour timeslot on Sunday afternoon during which they play 2 30 minute games. Play will be at the recreational level.
There will be no practices for this league, however 3rd grade and up players can participate in ULAX clinics by Coach Mark Mozier on *Monday* evenings. Clinics are held at Duvall Field in College Park. Coach Mark Mozier and his team of ULAX coaches will help us improve our skills. Players will be grouped by skill level. This is also a great opportunity for new/prospective PG Pride coaches to see other coaches in action.
In short:
Five weeks of recreational-level play at Riverdale Recreational Park on Sunday afternoons (Sep 17-Oct 15). Six weeks of ULAX clinics led by Coach Mark Mozier at Duvall Field in College Park, on Mondays evenings (Sep 11-Oct 16, 6:30-8pm). Third grade and up only. More details at our website. Registrations fees paid after September 3rd will increase $20.00.
REGISTRATION IS OPEN NOW! Cost for the season will be $100 for 3rd grade and up, $70 for 1st and 2nd graders. Registration slots will be limited, so that this fast paced new format gives each player as much action as possible.
We expect to be playing in our regular league (MGLL) in the spring.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
|
|
CMIT Science Technology Engineering and Math
|
Hello Students and Parents!
I'm having a great summer (volunteering, exercising, studying). I hope you are enjoying the summer break too.
Before we get into the new school year, I felt it best to share a little about myself as a science teacher at CMIT.
I have a Masters in Astrophysics and once worked for a NASA sub-contractor (shuttle telemetry) before the shuttle program was closed. I taught undergrad freshman Physics and Astronomy (even to Marines at Quantico) before deciding to 'be the change I wanted to see' in students coming out of high school and entering undergrad programs in college. So, I shifted to teaching high school science.
This coming school year, I will once again be teaching Environmental Science; however, this time I will have 4 separate classes. To round out my schedule for the school year, I will have 2 classes of electives: Anatomy and Physiology for one semester (half the school year, 1/2 credit), and Medical Science for one semester and 1/2 credit.
An obvious question could be: How does an Astrophysicist teach Anatomy and Physiology and Medical Science? Answer: Before deciding to pursue Astrophysics, I was a Pre-Med major and ready to matriculate to U. of S. Carolina Charleston to their medical school. I have also taught Medical Science with a light version of Anatomy and Physiology in previous years at CMIT.
A few of the goals that I have (of many) is to be a positive influence on high school students in the following ways: increasing their maturity, resourcefulness, and leadership; building confidence in their capabilities; application of understanding and skill in subject areas; developing healthy skepticism and asking thoughtful questions; improved reading, writing, and communication skills that serve students throughout their lives.
Looking forward to a successful school year,
Suzanne Coholic High School Science Teacher

Mrs. Cunning | Social Studies Department
|
Hello! My name is Mrs. Cunning and I am a new member of the Social Studies Department. While this is my first year here at CMIT, I have spent the last seven years teaching at our sister school, CSP, in Anne Arundel. I am excited to continue my teaching with CLF and be a part of the opening of this new school!
On a more academic note, it has been brought to my attention that a due date was left off of the AP Government Summer Assignment Part II- Current Events. This will be gone over in class during the first week, but the date should have been listed as Monday, September 11th. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Seniors (Class of 2018); We highly recommend that all of our 12th grade students to register to take the SAT test in October 7. It is important that students study for this very important test that is coming soon. We highly recommend for students to take these two full-length PSAT practice tests before taking the exam. 1- https://goo.gl/pofULN2- https://goo.gl/zf6ekMFreshmen; 9th grade students will be taking PSAT 8/9 in December. CMIT High School Schedule Changes
|
Good afternoon,
In the first week of school, students are permitted to come see me (Ms. Gaudette) for schedule changes. I will not rearrange a schedule to change the order of courses, nor will I permit students to drop courses required for graduation. For example, I will not allow students to switch the period their Gym class so that they can take it at a certain time of day.
The process for schedule changes is as follows: (1) Students must report to the course on their schedule so that their attendance may be recorded even if they plan to drop the course (2) During the class they wish to drop they must request a pass from the teacher to come to my office for their schedule change (3) Students will sign in on a sign in sheet and will be seen in that order (4) I will tell students which courses are available for them to switch into during the period of the course they wish to change. If the course they wish to switch into is full, I will place them on a waiting list and notify them if a spot in the course opens up. (5) I will immediately make the schedule change if there are open seats, and I will provide the student with a Schedule Change form that they must have signed by their parent/guardian and returned to me by the end of the following school day. If the form is NOT returned to me by then, they will be put back into the class they were originally in. A form must be filled out for each schedule change a student is requesting. (6) After making the schedule change, the student will report to their new class.
If you have any questions about the schedule change process, please do not hesitate to email me at ngaudette@cmitacademy.org.
