BREAKING NEWS
End of Q3 | School's Out (March 27th)

It is hard to believe, but the third quarter ends Friday, March 24th. If students have not already done so, now is a good time to review SchoolMax and begin reaching out to teachers to address unresolved concerns about third quarter grades.

Next week is a full five-day week of classes. However, schools will be closed Monday, March 27th for Teacher Grading Day. Make plans accordingly.

Respectfully,

CMIT Administration

Personal Safety Lessons
Dear Parents/Guardians:

Prince George’s County Public Schools’ strategic plan promotes academic achievement for all students. In order for our students to learn, we recognize that safe and supportive environments must exist. While many strategies are implemented daily to ensure our students’ safety, we acknowledge the value of providing educational opportunities for our students to learn “personal safety”. Through classroom counseling lessons, your professional school counselor can assist your child in learning:

• Differences between appropriate and inappropriate physical contact
• Personal body safety rules and when to use them
• How to identify trusted adults to whom they can report when they feel unsafe

In accordance to the PGCPS Board of Education Policy #0126, all schools are required to present personal safety lessons to our students. Implementing an effective curriculum on personal safety for children can raise our students’ awareness of abuse, increase disclosure when abuse has occurred and serve as a preventative measure in the future.

This letter is to inform you that your child’s school counselor will begin implementing age-appropriate personal safety lessons with students during the second semester of the 2016-2017 school year, starting Monday, March 20, 2017. Parents/Guardians are more than welcome to preview the lesson prior to its implementation during the week of March 20 - 24.

In doing so, you can re-enforce these tools for personal safety with your child. We will lead the way to stop the cycle of child abuse in Prince George’s County.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s professional school counselor at yjohnson@cmitacademy.org.

What is Happening in Ms. Subasi's Classes?

GEOMETRY: Geometry classes are currently working on the “Properties and Attributes of Triangles” chapter. Each geometry class, students receive a study packet that covers everything we do in class. It is very important for students to keep each section packet and review the questions daily when they get home. We have two more sections to cover before the Chapter test. We are following the “Holt Geometry” Textbook for our classes. The Chapter Test will be posted on Google Classroom ahead of time.

ADVANCED ALGEBRA: The Advance Algebra class is going to start a new chapter on Tuesday. We just finished “Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities” chapter, and they took their chapter test on Thursday. The new chapter is “Exponents and Exponential Functions.” Following the Exponents and Exponential Functions chapter, students will learn "Polynomials and Factoring." We are following the “Holt Algebra 1” and “Pearson Algebra” Textbooks for our classes. Students are given packets for each section, and it is very important for students to keep each section packet and review the questions daily when they get home.

ALGEBRA: The Algebra 1 class is still working on the Linear Functions chapter. It is a long chapter that consists of 10 sections. Students are given packets for each section, and it is very important for students to keep each section packet and review the questions daily when they get home. We have two more sections to cover before the Chapter test. We are following the “Holt Algebra 1” and “Pearson Algebra” Textbooks for our classes. The Chapter Test will be posted on Google Classroom ahead of time.

AP STATISTICS: In AP Statistics, students are busy examining several important aspects of statistical inference in more detail and getting ready to move into the last part of the textbook. We have five more Chapters and six more weeks to go. After the spring break, our focus will be reviewing the entire year and practicing as many questions we can. Students are expected to review class materials daily and keep track of the announcements.

Math with Ms. Rooney
The third quarter is ending this Friday, March 24th! Students have been reminded to check SchoolMax for any missing or absent work. As we enter into the 4th quarter, it is important to remember that we need to continue to put our best foot forward and end the year on a strong note!

Algebra 1:
We are moving into our next topic on Exponent Rules and Simplifying Exponential Expressions. This topic requires remembering many different rules, so it is imperative that students keep up with their work and stay on top of the skills we are practicing in class. PARCC Test -- Algebra 1 students will be taking the PARCC the week after Spring Break on April 25 and 26th! Practice over break is strongly encouraged!

Trigonometry:
We are wrapping up our Trig Identities unit at the end of next week. Next, we will be moving into the Laws of Sine and Cosine.

Seniors -- You will take your Trig Final during our regular class time during the week of May 12th. The definite date will be announced soon.

AP Calculus:
- AP EXAM IS ON MAY 9TH!!!

Character Education | Life Skills
Dear Parents:

Since the month of March is considered National Women's History month, which was passed in Congress in 1987, all Character Education/Life Skills classes have been assigned the task of doing a report on the Millionaires/Billionaires/Entrepreneurs and Inventors of NASA Women who started out at Langley as Human Computers and prompted the movie "Hidden Figures." Some of these women have moved on, some are no longer with us, and some are still with NASA.

The reports/information gathered shall be on display throughout the hallways of the middle school portion of CMIT North.

Sincerely,
Dr. Sullivan-Williams (a.k.a. Dr. BB)

From Mrs. Cabrera-Avila's desk
Hola Students,

Please remember to practice your Spanish vocabulary, which is important in order to allow your long-term retention memory to work. (Try 10-15 minutes a day.)

The 3rd quarter final grade is quickly approaching, and listening practice assignments are part of your grade. Please turn your homework on time.
This week, we are going to be learning more about the cultural aspects of Peru. We also are going to practice direct object pronouns in Spanish.
