HS BREAKING NEWS
College Applications at CMIT
CMIT seniors have done a great job! I am happy to announce that CMIT's college acceptance rate is 100% as of now. It is important to remember that many colleges and universities are using a “Rolling Admission” process which is a policy that enables candidates to submit their applications to the universities anytime within a large window. So the decisions are made as students are submitting their applications, rather than waiting for the deadline. I highly recommend to complete all your application process ASAP.

I also would like to remind you that everyone should bring a copy of their acceptance letter to my office as you receive it, or you may send a soft copy to favsar@cmitacademy.org

So far, our students got acceptance letters from more than 60 colleges and universities. See the attached list for details.

Scholarships
The average cost of a four-year college nationwide is about $31,000 a year, according to The College Board. Therefore, getting financial assistance is essential for many students in order to make college a reality.

So far our graduating class, the Class of 2017, is getting $2,984,060 in scholarships from the colleges to which they have applied. It is important to note that colleges are not the only source of scholarships. There are numerous foundations and private institutions that are providing these opportunities. You can search them online. It is also important to note that they all have application deadlines, and the key point is to apply early. Here is a great resource that actually can help you to access Maryland scholarships programs.

MS UPCOMING EVENTS
Middle School Soccer
This is a reminder that spring soccer tryouts will begin on March 13th and continue through Friday, March 17th after school from 3:15pm - 5:30pm. Students should come prepared with cleats, shin guards, soccer socks, athletic attire, water, and a healthy after school snack. Students must have a current PGCPS Student-Athlete participation packet on file with Ms. Lawrence in order to tryout. Medical documents are good for one calendar year. You can find copies of this packet here: http://www1.pgcps.org/athletics/athletics-participation-forms.htm. Due to the large number of students (more than 80 students) interested in participating, there will unfortunately have to be cuts. Students will be evaluated during the tryout period based on skill level, fitness level, and behavior/attitude. Below is a sample rubric of what the coaches will use to determine the final roster at the end of tryouts. Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

MS TEACHER ANNOUNCEMENTS
Attention 8th Grade Parents!

All 8th grade students were given the Family Life, Human Sexuality permission slip last week to take home and have signed by a parent/guardian. Students must return this permission slip to me this week (March 13th - March 17th) during their designated health class. Returning this signed permission slip will count as a homework grade on SchoolMax for the third marking period. If a student "opts-out" of Family Life, the student will be given alternative work during their class to complete in another location in the school. Should you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me at the e-mail address listed below. If your child lost his/her permission slip, I have included an extra copy below. Thank you!
