HS BREAKING NEWS
National Honor Society Tutoring Program Seeks Tutors!
High School NHS is starting a tutoring program for both middle and high school students. We are seeking students to serve as tutors in subjects they are strong in. This is a great opportunity for students to gain service hours! We will provide a location every Thursday from 3-4 where tutors and tutees can meet up. In addition, tutors and tutees can meet up at their own convenience. If your student needs service hours and they are strong in a particular subject, please encourage them to apply to be a tutor! Tutor applications can be picked up in Mr. Krystal's room (160) or on the NHS bulletin board.

High School NHS Applications
Greetings CMIT Family,

Applications are now available for National Honor Society. Students must be in grades 10-12 and have been at CMIT for one semester. Qualifications for membership are a cumulative 3.0 GPA, as well as good character, leadership, and service. Membership is not a guarantee. Applications are reviewed by a five member faculty council. NHS looks great on college applications. Should your student be selected, requirements to remain in the chapter are completion of eight service hours a semester, attendance at two meetings a month, and participation in three NHS activities a semester. Dues for the chapter are twenty dollars a year. Applications can be picked up in Mr. Krystal's room (160) and are due by December 22nd. Please encourage your student to apply.

Tentative Change to Cell Phone Policy - HIGH SCHOOL ONLY
Beginning this week, high school students will have the opportunity to use their cell phones during their lunch period. However, they must follow these rules or they will lose the privilege:

- No taking videos or photos
- No audio without earbuds/earphones
- Phones must be returned to lockers immediately following lunch.

Also, students are responsible for keeping up with their own devices.

This change in policy will be in effect until winter break at which time we will evaluate whether or not it should continue.

Respectfully,
HS Administrative Team

College Applications at CMIT
CMIT seniors have done a great job! 100% of our students submitted their college choice through Naviance. It is important to remember that many colleges and universities are using a “Rolling Admission” process which is a policy that enables candidates to submit their applications to the universities anytime within a large window. So the decisions are made as students are submitting their applications, rather than waiting for the deadline. I highly recommend to complete all your application process ASAP.

I also would like to remind you that everyone should bring a copy of their acceptance letter to my office as you receive it, or you may send a soft copy to favsar@cmitacademy.org

So far, our students got acceptance letters from these colleges and universities:

Norfolk State University
Johnson & Wales University
Anne Arundel Community College
Harrisburg University of Science and Technology
Marymount Manhattan College
Frostburg University
Saint Vincent College
Pennsylvania College of Technology
Howard Community College
Marymount University
Delaware State University
Wingate University
Morgan State University
Robert Morris University
Prince George’s Community College
Towson University
University of Pittsburg
Stevenson University
Hampton University
West Virginia University
Bowie State University
Albright College
Virginia Union University
North Carolina Central University
Saint Leo University
King's College
Xavier University, OH
North Carolina A&T University
Coppin State University
North Carolina Central University
Fairleigh Dickinson University
Lincoln University

Scholarships
The average cost of a four year college nationwide is about $31,000 a year, according to The College Board. Therefore, getting financial assistance is essential for many students in order to make college a reality.

So far our graduating class, Class of 2017, is getting $997,872 in scholarships from the colleges that they had applied to. It is important to note that colleges are not the only source of scholarships. There are numerous foundations and private institutions that are providing these opportunities. You can search them online. It is also important to note that they all have application deadlines and the key point is to apply early. Here is great resource that actually can help you to access Maryland scholarships programs.

Giant's A+ School Rewards Program
Dear CMIT Parents,

We are currently in the third month of Giant’s six (6) month A+ School Rewards Program and we need YOUR help! As you may know, the success of this fundraiser has allowed the PTO to purchase the caps, gowns, tassels and stoles for EVERY STUDENT of our first graduating class – The Class of 2017!! Unfortunately at this point in the program, we have not earned what we did at this point last year and the Class of 2018 has approximately 35 more students than the Class of 2017. In order for us to provide all future graduating classes with this gift, we need to increase the number of bonus cards registered for our school and to increase the amount spent during the program months. So what can you do to help?

- Register your Giant Bonus Card to support CMIT

- Continue to do your holiday shopping at Giant with your Bonus Card

- Encourage your friends, family, co-workers and neighbors to register their Bonus Cards for our school. You can do it for them.

Registering your Bonus Card is easy. Visit www.giantfood.com/aplus and select "register your card", which is located in the red box on the right for customers. Enter the first 3 letters of your last name and your 12-digit GIANT CARD number. Next enter CMIT’s ID# (17899) and you’re finished!

The website cannot accept telephone numbers. If you do not know your Giant Bonus Card number, please call the Giant hotline at 1-877-366-2668 for assistance.

This program ends on March 16, 2017. Let’s finish strong!

Thank you for your support,
CMIT North PTO Fundraising
