An Affordable Computer for $75
Here is a very affordable personal computer for everyone who has a keyboard, a mouse, and a TV screen that has HDMI port.

This device works like a PC; it comes with an open source Office suite as well as software for 9 programming languages (including Scratch) loaded. The user can load more applications or software.

It is a great computer alternative for CMIT students who work on such simple computer tasks as assignment completion on a web browser or intro to programming. Raspberry Pi3 also allows students to program in Scratch, Python, and Java. However, the Raspberry Pi 3's office suite will "not" be a good fit for Microsoft Office Certification Program which is taught at CMIT Academy.

Learning about Culture and Students Observing Ramadan.
As we are learning about culture throughout the school year. Some of our students and staff are now in the mist of observing Ramadan.

Within the Islamic faith they have 12 months in their calendar and Ramadan is one of those months. In Ramadan all Muslims fast from dusk (approximately an hour before sunrise) to sunset. This year it is June 5 - July 5.

Fasting in Islam is not only restricted to the fast of the stomach, e.g. Not to eat or drink all day but also fasting of the hands from harming other people, fasting of the tongue as not to utter any ill or vain talk. Fasting of the eyes as not to see anything forbidden etc.

Muslims see this as a month of gaining control over them self.

As a school community we are supporting our staff and students by teachers opening up their classrooms to students during lunch for a quite space and to be with other students observing Ramadan.

We are also asking you to remind your scholars that as a school students are not to eat and drink in class ever.

There will also be no in class parties and or treats. (This is also a county rule).

Thank you.

Hershey Park 2016
The students had a great time at the end of the year field trip to Hershey Park on Wednesday. There were roller coasters ridden, funnel cakes eaten, prizes won and much more! A special thank you to Mr. Brauer and Ms. Riley for planning this end of the year trip for our students. Thank you to all the chaperones who attended the trip, we couldn't have done it without you. We hope that that trip was another great memory for your scholar as the year comes to a close. We hope you have a great summer!

CMIT North dominates WAMS Cricket All Star Match
Team 1 defeated Team 2: 70 - 45

It was a good game. The kids really played at a high level. Good fielding from both teams left players stranded to be run out. Many catches were taken including a absolutely brilliant catch by CMIT North Chase Washington. He ran about 10 yards to his left, stuck his right hand high in the air, and caught the ball to prevent a six. CMIT North's other Chase van der Have punished some loose deliveries for 4 sixes. Excellent bowling from Alyssa Logan, Shuaib Syed, and Lisa Ramjit made it difficult for Team 2 to score runs.

Math Summer 2016 Assignments
Although summer is here, it is important to keep our skills sharp over the summer. The summer break math packets will do that and more. These assignments are designed to help you remember what you have learned but also give you a preview of what's to come next school year.

Students should create a math "journal" with the problems. We recommend working on these problems starting in July, working on one or two problems each week on separate pieces of paper. When all the problems are complete, staple them together creating your own journal of summer work. Your work should be neat and organized. To receive extra credit, present your work to your new math teacher in the first two weeks of school. If you have questions about which summer math packet to complete, please refer to your current math Edmodo account.

Here are the summer 2016 math assignments:

A Farewell From Ms Talcott
It has been an absolute pleasure spending my first year of public school teaching here at CMIT North. Our students, staff and parents are truly a unique and wonderful community of people.

Unfortunately I have recently received some medical news regarding my respiratory health that needs to be paid attention to as soon as possible. This will require moving back to my home area of Northern Michigan this summer for familial support and frequent medical attention.

With this news comes the sad reality that I will be unable to teach next fall and therefore unable to return to CMIT for my second year.
This pains me as I feel as if I have just settled into the rhythm of our school and begun to get to know my over 500 students.

Thank you for all of your support throughout the school year inside and outside of my classroom. Experiencing your children’s growth creatively in my middle school art classes and leadership wise in my high school class has truly been a blessing. Being here at CMIT has given me many opportunities for growth and learning within a small supportive environment, I would not trade my time here this past year for anything.

I look forward to returning for a visit this fall and seeing our first group of high school students graduate this spring. It is my hope that everyone has a wonderful summer, enjoying their time off with friends and family, as it is my plan to do so as well.

Wrapping up the school year.
After successful year, we have left only 6 school days; Friday, June 17 and Monday, June 20 will be 2-hour early dismissal. Attendance is crucial, please ensure that we are still attending school and all classes. We are asking parents to ensure timely arrival and perfect attendance for the remaining 6 days.

Students are expected to comply with the uniform policy and school rules. We look forward to finishing the school year with great memories as this week brings a few fun activities for our Scholars.

CMIT Academy families are strongly recommended to catch a great opportunity that is coming to Washington DC on June 18-19; the National Maker Faire. It is still not too late to obtain free tickets for this eye opening hands on experience: http://makerfaire.com/national/
