Our Invited Guest-Dr.Noelle Trent, PhD
|
Parents/Guardians,
Our invited guest, Dr. Noelle Trent, attended Harvard University. She is the Director of Interpretation, Collections, and Education at the National Civil Rights Museum in TN.
Principal Miller also attended and graduated from Harvard University. Both know each other and are still friends today-This is a great partnership for CMIT Elementary School- South.
Her presentation to the staff and students at our Black History Celebration on 2/25/2021 was well received. We look forward to visiting the museum in the years ahead.
Thank You Dr. Trent.

Learning Keeps Going in Kindergarten
|
February is almost over but the learning of people that came before us keeps going. Students and parents have worked hard on biographies of people that paved the way. We will continue to talk about important African Americans that changed the world throughout the rest of the year. Our students need to know they can change the world at the age of 5/6 or at 100. They can make a difference in the world.
March 1 starts our Read-A-Thon. Please click the link to register your child. We will provide some time during class to read but it is important that your child is reading each night at home.
https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/fgbxHr.
Please remember to fill out the survey about Hybrid learning or Virtual learning. The survey needs to be completed by Sunday, Feb. 28th. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Reopen_PGCPS_English
Thank you again for all the support and help with our daily class time. Parents...you really are rockstars!!!!

2nd Grade Updates!
|
Hello everyone, from the 2nd grade team! We hope you all had a great week this week!
Students are learning a lot in each subject, as well as learning about different important events and influential people for Black History Month! In Reading, students are learning about poems and rhyming words as well as reading biographies of many different people for Black History Month. In Social Studies, students are in chapter 2 from our social studies books about trading and borrowing! In Math, students are finishing up learning about subtraction within 100, and in science, students are learning about properties of matter!
Students are in the process of finishing their MAP Growth assessments and they should be finished with their winter testing very soon. Teachers will send scores from the tests home once students all take the test!
We will be doing a READ-A-THON even for the month of March, so please check Class Dojo for more info from your teachers on how to sign up your child!
If anyone did not get to Meet with their teachers for parent teacher conferences and you would like to, please send them a message to find a time that works best! If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher! Also, thank you to everyone who was able to attend our town hall meeting about the school reopening plans! PLEASE make sure you fill out the "return to school plans" survey before the due date to express your interest in your plans for your child. Thank you, and we are looking forward to another great week of school next week!!
From your 2nd Grade Team! :)
