PE Weekly Review
Dear Parents/Guardians and students, We had another week full of exercises and fun new ways in which to execute them. My favorite was the Price is Right game that was played. I found myself getting answers wrong. I was surprised to see that some students actually KNEW what the Price is Right was. Good to see Ol' Bob Barker again. Students review this week what things contribute to being and staying healthy, heart health and warming up and cooling down before and after activities. Please remember that it is important to stay active while at home and kept inside. Children need 1 HOUR of vigorous activity EACH DAY !!!! Stay happy and healthy,

Parents! We have conquered another week. Please take time to review the attached newsletter which covers topics discussed this week and upcoming dates. All parents should have received a Parent Survey from PGCPS regarding reopening and your intentions regarding you students' return to the building. If you have not done so already, be sure to complete this survey as soon as possible. Have an amazing weekend!

Crazy Short Week in Kindergarten
We had a fun but short week. Thank you for participating in the Parent Teacher Conferences. For those families that did not get a chance to schedule a conference and you still want to discuss things with your child's teacher, please reach out to schedule some time. We are in the middle of Black History Month. Students are learning about wonderful contributions African Americans have shared. Students are seeing how one person can make a big difference at home or all over the world. Even at the age of 5 and 6, students can make an impact on their homes, schools, communities and world. It has been an honor to hear how each child wants to change the world and realize that their life is important. We are hoping these lessons and discussions will last a lifetime and truly have a ripple effect. School re-opening plans are being discussed. There is a survey below. Please fill it out and submit. The deadline to complete the survey is Sunday, February 28, 2021. If a parent/guardian does not complete the survey by the February 28, 2021 deadline, the system will select your child for in-person hybrid instruction through the last day of school. Updates from Ms. James' Art Room!
This week the Kindergarteners' and first graders' art challenge was to draw one of 3 collage paintings by different Black contemporary artists! Second grade began work on their construction paper landscapes inspired by Harlem Renaissance artist, Romare Bearden! Third and fourth grade began their African masks. Third grade is creating theirs by making sure both sides are symmetrical; fourth grade is using positive and negative space! Fifth grade started working on practicing drawing facial features so they can draw their own self portraits! Picture below are few more works that I've received: A third grade Piet Mondrian animal. A Kindergarten city. A first grade silhouette hand. A fourth grade name monster. A fifth grade line design.

Stay happy, healthy, and creative! Miss James

2nd Grade Updates!
Hello everyone, from the 2nd grade team! We hope you all had a great week this week! Students are learning a lot in each subject, as well as learning about different important events and influential people for Black History Month! In Reading, students are learning about poems and rhyming words. They are also reading biographies of many different people for Black History Month along with practicing comprehension by answering questions about true events. In Social Studies, students are in chapter 2 from our social studies books about borrowing money! In Math, students are finishing up learning about subtraction within 100, and in science, students are learning about properties of matter! Students began their winter term of their MAP Growth assessments last week and will continue this next week. They took the MAP Math assessment already and they are working on their MAP Reading Growth assessment! Please make sure students are present and on time for class on testing days! Also, reminder that students should receive NO help or assistance on any part of the MAP tests. Teachers will send scores from the tests home once students all take the test! Thanks to everyone who we met with for parent teacher conferences, we were happy to communicate with many of you about your child's progress! If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher! Thank you, and we are looking forward to another great week of school next week!! Also, a big thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Valentine's Day drive thru gift pick up! We were so happy to see so many of you in person! And thanks to our PTO for an amazing Valentine's Day event! *Reminder: We will have our Honor Roll Assembly next week, so be on the lookout for information regarding this!* From your 2nd Grade Team! :)
