2nd Grade Updates!
Hello everyone, from the 2nd grade team! We hope you all had a great week this week! We are excited to be celebrating Black History Month this month! Students are continuing to learn a lot of important material in each subject, as well as learning about different important events and influential people for Black History Month! In Reading, students are starting to learn about poems and how to identify patterns in poems. They are also reading biographies of many different people for Black History Month along with practicing comprehension by answering questions about true events. They have are also learning about three letter blends, vocabulary, and possessive nouns this week! In Social Studies, students are in chapter 2 from our social studies books about skills and service workers as well as an infusion of Black History! In Math, students are finishing up learning about subtraction within 100, and in science, students have been learning about properties of matter! We are so proud of you all for your consistent effort and hard work! Students are beginning their winter term of their MAP Growth assessments. They have taken the MAP Fluency test already, and they will be taking the MAP Math and Reading Growth assessment starting next week (February 8!) Please make sure students are present and on time next week for class as we deliver step by step instructions on how to log into the test. If parents are available to assist students with just the logging on process, that would be very helpful! Aside from logging in, students should receive NO help or assistance on any part of the MAP tests. Scores will not affect their overall grade, however scores help teachers understand what areas students need additional help in or what areas, as teachers, we can improve on for instruction. It is crucial that students scores are true and genuine to their knowledge. It will only help us all improve. Teachers will be sending scores from the tests home once students all take the test! If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher! Thank you, and we are looking forward to another great week of school next week!! From your 2nd Grade Team! :)

Parents/ Guardians, Continue to encourage/support students' interest in working towards mastery on skills across content. They are winners when they begin to see how mush they are learning. Check with your child's teacher if you need to know more.
