Becoming a Student of the Month
Parents.Guardians, Please encourage scholars to model excellence at all times, both in their work and their conduct. Help to keep students engaged by giving daily reminders to practice active and attentive listening, completing all assigned work, and turning in all assigned work. When our students demonstrate a positive approach to learning-they are already winners! Thanks for supporting the teaching-learning environment here at CMIT-S.

Perfect Attendance Campaign
Parents/Guardians, Good afternoon, Second Semester is here! Using education as the great equalizer will have its impact on student learning when they attend school regularly. One of our school goal is to ensure all our scholars are present each day for learning. Please help us cut back on chronic absenteeism. Being on time every day is a healthy habit for students, as they matriculate through the grades. Please make every effort to get our scholars to class on time.. Have students do the following to be ready each morning:- -Prepare a quiet area for study -Have all resources, including the Chromebook ready to begin -Keep a charger nearby for the Chromebook -Print and keep a schedule for easy reminders

Message From the Health Room
From the Health Room Parents/Guardians, Properly worn masks, social distancing and hand washing works to help stop the spread of the Covid 19 virus. Masks should cover your nose and mouth and fit snugly to the face without gaps. They should be worn anytime you are around people who are not living in your household. All it takes is one person who is not properly protecting themselves to start spreading the virus. Once you are able to receive the vaccine you need to continue wearing masks along with social distancing and hand washing. A Time to Read!
Parents/Guardians, As we celebrate Black History Month this year, let's read aloud at home those stories that our scholars will want to read, time and time again. Our students are also seeing history in the making when they see events unfold right before their eyes. Therefore, let's READ aloud for the month of February (28 days out loud), to help connect the past to the present. While you read your part of the book, our scholars are also listening and learning to become more attentive listeners. When I was growing up in Jamaica, we read a LOT when it was raining (no playing outside). Now, with whats happening, it is a great time to read, and reading aloud will bring great rewards for the speaker and the listener. Give it a try! If you have no books to read-tell a story/make up a story. They will want to hear it again, so pay attention to the details. This page contains some examples of books worth reading. Updates from Ms. James' Art Room!
This past week, the Kindergarteners learned about color mixing when I read aloud the book "Mixed: A Colorful Story". I loved their thoughts on the story! They'll be using crayons to mix colors themselves next week. The first grade listened to "One Fish, Two Fish. Red Fish, Blue Fish" and are now creating their own imaginary animals like Dr. Seuss! I loved seeing some them follow along with their own copy of the book! Second grade is getting dizzy looking at their optical illusion hands, but I think we're making out okay! Third grade is REALLY showing off their skills by drawing their favorite animals as is fourth grade with their own symmetry monsters! As for fifth grade, they are going to "pitch" their line designs to me and tell me why I should display their work! Special request for SECOND (2nd) and FOURTH (4th) grade, I would love for them to have construction paper for their Black History projects coming up not this week but the week after. In second grade, I want to do a torn paper landscape and in fourth, I want to do silhouette inspired by the styles of two of my favorite Black artists. If you want a link to a decent pack of construction paper: https://smile.amazon.com/Crayola-Construction-Paper-Assorted-Colors/dp/B01KQDQOYG/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=construction+paper&qid=1611872691&sr=8-3 I'll remind again next week and the above picture is an abstract tree by one of Ms. Lambert's students: Ethan Strong

Stay happy, healthy, and creative! Miss James
