Grade Level Greatness
P.E. Weekly review - Nutrition lesson and EXTRA CREDIT
Dear parents/guardians and students, This week we had a great time dancing and exercising as part of our healthy nutrition lesson. The students learned many vital facts for balanced diet and how to portion their plates with different food groups so that healthy habits start young ! There is a EXTRA CREDIT assignment opportunity if parents and students are looking to raise their grade before the quarter ends in a few weeks. I will announce on Class DOJO once the assignment is posted in google classroom for all students. It will be due next Friday, 1/22/2021 by the end of school. The assignment will have to do with reading and interpreting a food label on any food item in the house. Keep a look out and keep eating healthy !

1st Grade Updates!
1st Grade is hard at work this week! Students have been working on the following: RELA - Students have been learning about parts of speech including nouns, verbs, and adjectives. We have also worked on blends, digraphs, vowel teams, and splitting unknown words into syllables. We are also working on parts of a story and sequencing, as well as informational and nonfiction texts. Math - Students have been learning about telling time to the hour and half hour! Specifically, we are teaching students the difference between telling time with an hour hand and minute hand. Science - Students are still learning about sound! We are reviewing concepts of sound such as volume, pitch, vibration, and sound waves. Students are also hard at work on their STEM projects, which are due on January 19th! Social Studies - Students are learning about the concept of using the past, present, and future to measure time, and they are also being introduced to history and how it is studied! Other Announcements: - The NWEA MAP Reading Fluency Test will be administered to students on January 19th and 21st (next Tuesday and Thursday)! Students will need their school-administered headsets to complete the test. If you have not picked up your school-administered headsets, please inform your classroom teacher as soon as possible so a pickup may be arranged. - We will have a virtual field trip to the William Schmidt Outdoor Education Center on the mornings of February 2nd and 4th! Ms. Brown’s and Ms. Gregory’s classes will go on the 2nd and Ms. Libebe’s and Ms. Madison’s classes will go on the 4th. These days are the same day as the MAP-M Growth Test for math, so students will take their test on the mornings that their class does not have their virtual field trip. We look forward to seeing everyone’s amazing STEM projects and presentations! Please ensure they are turned in on time. Have a wonderful MLK Jr. Day Weekend!

The Start of a New Year in Kindergarten
Happy New Year! We hope everyone has had an easy adjustment back into the school schedule. It has been wonderful seeing all the students back and hearing what they did over the break. Testing We are entering in to testing season. Kindergarten will be getting ready to take the State MAP test. On Thursday and Friday of this week we will be taking a MAP practice test. Testing will be on Tuesday 1/19. Please have your child log in a few minutes before 8am. The Kindergarten teachers want to start testing as soon as possible. This test requires headphones with a working microphone. PLEASE LET YOUR TEACHER KNOW ASAP if you need headphones. Students may have to log off of zoom for the test to work. Please remember that is it okay to see your child struggle during these tests. These tests help us as educators know what they students have learned and what we still need to work on. STEM Fair STEM Fair projects are due no later than Wednesday 1/20. Please submit all projects no later than that date. We are already seeing amazing projects. GRADES The end of the marking period is 1/27. Please check school max for any missing assignments. February we will be celebrating Black History...be on the lookout for fun activities that we have in store to celebrate. Once again, we thank all the parents, grandparents, daycare workers and all other hands that have been working so hard to keep our students learning during this time. We could not do our job without you!

Weather or Not-
Parents/Guardians This is information that was posted for parents as it relates to inclement weather. Thanks for your attention to posted information. Respectfully, This option will include weather events that may have closed school in years past. All instruction will continue to be delivered virtually resulting in an approved academic day. Instruction: Virtual for all students Meal Service: Canceled Buildings: Closed Non-Public Students: No transportation Athletics: Canceled Evening School Program: Virtual for all students Emergency Personnel: (Code Yellow, Purple or Red) Code 2: Early Dismissal This option would be implemented when an unexpected weather event occurs while students and/or staff may be in school buildings (testing, etc.). During an early closing, instruction would end early (2 or 3 hours) for all students, including those learning virtually. Instruction: Virtual and in-person ends early Meal Service: Ends at 11:30 AM Buildings: Closed early for all Athletics: Canceled PreKindergarten: Afternoon classes are canceled Evening School Program: Virtual for all students Code 3: No Instruction; Buildings Closed This option mirrors a typical inclement weather day when schools and offices are closed. This decision may be implemented at times of widespread internet or power outages when virtual instruction is not feasible. These days would potentially need to be made up at the end of the school year. Instruction: Canceled Meal Service: Canceled Buildings: Closed Athletics: Canceled Evening School Program: Canceled Emergency Personnel: (Code Yellow, Purple or Red)
