Math - We have started Unit 1.5 - Measuring Length and Time! Students will learn how to use nonstandard measuring units to compare height, length, and width, as well as telling time to the hour and half hour.
Science - We are wrapping up our lessons on light and will begin learning about sound after break! Students are also expected to work on their STEM projects.
Social Studies- Students are wrapping up their lessons about cultures around the world! After break, we will begin to learn about the past, present, and future (an introduction to history)!
Have a great weekend - we’re close to a well-earned break!

Updates from Ms. James' Art Room!
|
This week the Kindergarteners and first graders presented their self-portraits to their classmates. Kindergarten had to draw themselves as animals doing something a human would do. First grade had to look carefully at themselves in their computer cameras or the mirror! Second grade is finishing up their symmetrical name monsters next week. So far I am very pleased with the results! Third and fourth grade learned about abstract art through the Dutch artist Piet Mondrian. After break, third grade will be creating a drawing of an animal and incorporating one of Mondrian's most known compositions ( https://www.tate.org.uk/sites/default/files/styles/width-1200/public/mondrian_composition_c.jpg). Fourth grade are creating abstract trees inspired by the same artist ( https://www.tate.org.uk/art/images/work/T/T02/T02211_10.jpg). Fifth grade finished their one point perspective drawings and I can't wait to display them! Have a great break and see you here next year.
Stay happy, healthy, and creative!
Miss James

Students are continuing to learn a lot of important material in each subject in quarter 2! In Reading, students have been learning how to identify the key details of a story as well as how to identify fiction and fable stories. They've been learning about animals in stories such as fables, and how we can learn valuable lessons! After the holiday break, we will be switching back to nonfiction stories in Reading! They have also been learning about long vowels, vocabulary, and singular and plural nouns this week! In Social Studies, students are in chapter 2 from our social studies books about needs, wants, and resources! In Math, students are finishing up learning about telling time, and in science, students have been learning about changes to Earth's surface! Students throughout the school are also starting their STEM Fair Projects, and they will be due in January! the Winter break is a great time to make some progress on students' projects! Please see your child's math/science teacher if you have any questions about the STEM Fair project.
Teachers will continue along with small groups on Wednesdays as well as available office hours during the week. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher! We are looking forward to our holiday break coming up, and we are enjoying each day of our Winter spirit week! Thank you, and we are looking forward to another great week of school next week!!
We all truly hope you have an amazing, relaxing, and safe Holiday break, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone again after the New Year! Kindergarten: Winter Break Time!
|
Winter break is right around the corner! We will have some fun activities planned for Monday and Tuesday. Winter Break officially begins 12/24-1/3. Students come back to school VIRTUALLY on Monday 1/4/21
Parents are always asking what can their children do during the Winter Break. Well we have answers for you. During your break students can continue to work on the following:
1. IXL, IREAD and Epic. These are great ways to continue learning even when we are not in school.
2. STEM Fair Project. STEM Fair projects are mandatory for grades K-5 at CMIT South Elm.
3. December Project: STEM Occupation Project
Please take some time during this break to breathe. We are all in this together.
The Kindergarten Team wishes everyone a safe and healthy Holiday Season.

Winter Break and Assessments after the Winter Break
|
Hi Tigers,
You have completed a successful semester.
You have improved learned a lot from Math to Reading, and you have improved your skills from Engineering to Arts.
You will start your second semester with various diagnostic mid-year checkpoint tests such as i-Ready Reading for 3rd to 5th graders and NWEA Reading Fluency for Kindergarteners to 2nd Graders.
While getting rest, continue reading for 30 minutes every day during the winter break.
This will make you continue your personal development.
Have a beautiful weekend.
