Virtual STEM Fair at CMITSES
Calling All Scientists! CMITSES is hosting a Virtual STEM Fair! All scholars in Grades K-5 will complete a STEM Fair experiment about a topic of interest. Our young scientists would then submit a video report telling us about their STEM fair project! We've attached a non-exhaustive list of questions below for our families' reference; however, scholars do not have to select a question from the list. We encourage each scholar to conduct an experiment that is of high interest to them. Below you would also find the STEM Fair Packet; complete with timelines, rubrics, and the journal pages to be completed as the scholar works through the project. If you already know that you would like to be a Virtual STEM Fair judge on March 13th, 2021; please complete this form; https://forms.gle/S1G12LUEdSQ7PkvS6 to register your intent. We stand ready to assist you in any way we can. Yours, Ms. K. Fleet Mr. A. Holloway Dr. B. Donovan Feel free to contact your classroom teacher or any of us at kfleet@cmitsouthes.org; aholloway@cmitsouthes.org or bdonovan@cmitsouthes.org. Thank You.

PE weekly review
Dear parents / guardians and students, CONGRATULATIONS to the whole school for helping to raise over $7,000 for the Kids Heart Challenge this year. I was forced to change our goal 3 times because we raised SO much more than last year !! We raised so much money that we even earned a $500 gift card to buy new PE equipment !!! I'm so excited to see what we should get for when we return to in-person learning. The top 3 earning classrooms: 1st - Ms. Libebe... got to pie face Mr. Miller AND Mr. Loomer 2nd - Ms. Phillips... got to pick Mr. Loomer's beard style for the month of December ( the "friendly mutton chops" ) 3rd - Ms. Girch... got to pie face Mr. Loomer This week in PE all grades were working on catching. Students were practicing catching to improve hand eye coordination, tracking and catching skills. Students were encouraged to have hands in a diamond with fingers spread out for above the waist catches and with pinky fingers touching and fingers spread for low thrown catches below the waist. Tracking skills include seeing the ball after it's thrown to determine location, speed, and size of the object before making a successful catch. During the lesson, students were challenged to perform various tasks while trying to catch the ball such as clapping 1-5 times before catching, tossing from left to right hand and many more. ************ The WINTER PROGRAM will be held on Zoom this upcoming TUESDAY, DECEMBER 15. Please look for more information from the PTO as we will be using their link which allows up to 1,000 guests.

2nd Grade Updates!
Hello everyone, from the 2nd grade team! Thank you to everyone who has been turning in assignments in preparation for the progress report window closing this week! Also, welcome aboard to Mr. Holloway who will be joining the 2nd grade team!!! Students are continuing to learn a lot of important material in each subject as we reach the quarter 2 halfway point! In Reading, students have been learning how to identify the key details of a story as well as how to identify fiction and fable stories. They've been learning about animals in stories such as fables, and how we can learn valuable lessons from these stories! They are also beginning to move along to animal habitats and nonfiction stories! They have also been learning about long vowels, vocabulary, and singular and plural nouns this week! In Social Studies, students have finished learning about different Native American tribes and we are now starting our chapter 2 from our social studies books about needs and wants! In Math, students are learning about telling time, and in science, students have been learning about changes to Earth's surface! We will be continuing the change in the schedule during students' SEL (Social Emotional Learning) time moving forward. In this schedule change, SEL/Health is now only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Mondays and Fridays during the SEL block will now be utilized for independent enrichment! Teachers will not be hosting live Zoom sessions during this block! The students' RELA/Social Studies teacher will teach them SEL, and their Math/Science teacher will teach them Health. We will continue along with small groups on Wednesdays as well as available office hours. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher! Thank you, and we are looking forward to another great week of school next week!! We hope you all have a great weekend! From your 2nd Grade Team! :)

Baby It's Cold Outside in Kindergarten
What a December...boy it is cold out. We have noticed the kids have become a bit more restless during the meetings. Even though it is cold out allow your students a few minutes of fresh air each day. By now everyone should have seen the STEM Fair Packet. This is an exciting time because this is one of our main focuses...and isn't this why you chose a Science and Tech school? This whole process introduces the youngest students to the exciting world of STEM projects and careers. This is kind of like our Superbowl. This is a fun time for families to learn and explore together. We are almost in the middle of the 2nd quarter. Please make sure all assignments are turned in. All of the Kindergarten teachers have new late work policies. Please do your best to turn work in on time. We have the best parents! Thank you for your continual support to your children and our classrooms.

Character Trait for December
Hello, The character trait for the month of December is Respect. We want to teach all our students the value and importance of respect. While at home have a discussion with your child about what it means to be respectful. Have them identify times when they saw people showing respect to others. Best,
