Updates from Ms. James' Art Room!
Hello everyone! These last three months have been going great and I'm proud of every one of my classes! This week the Kindergarten read aloud "Henri's Scissors" and wrote down two things they remembered seeing in the book. Then they emulated Henri Matisse and drew with their scissors and construction paper! The first graders described a still life paint's shapes and colors then they made some food of their own using construction paper! Second grade started on their symmetry name monsters! Ask them what symmetrical means, they know it by heart now! Third grade is finishing up their Pop Art projects, fourth just finished their amate bark paintings, and fifth is finishing up blind contour drawings! Pictures of everything will be shown next week. The Google Slides presentation of 3-5 grade September and October work is being made now so expect it around next week or so. If you want to see K-2 again, here's the link: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1bND4qswAXZlsecDwN58FNiTUmhNPE4PU0liZKYwowg4/edit?usp=sharing

Stay happy, healthy, and creative! Miss James

P.E. - KIDS HEART CHALLENGE INFO
Dear Parents/guardians and students, This week we are starting the Kids heart challenge fundraiser !!! The goods news is there is no door-to-door selling items. Everything can be done through technology devices and computers. That especially means money collecting. Please do NOT accept any cash, checks, or money orders. All payments are done online. Students have to first create a username and password through the Kids Heart Challenge webpage ( if you didn't participate last year, if so, use your old log-in ). The next steps will be picking out a personal goal you are working towards and then a fundraising goal. After creating an account, students can earn money through social media messages, emails, or word of mouth ( they need to find your name on the kids heart challenge page ). Once money is coming in, students win thank you gifts of all shapes and sizes. If they reach a certain amount, they get that item PLUS all the items before it. After checking today, we have already raised $1,727 in our first week !!!!!! That is way up from last year when we were in person. I love the participation and people spreading the word on social medias. I myself posted it on my Facebook account and earned an achievement badge for doing so. Until Thanksgiving break we are going to be learning about how to be heart healthy. The Kids heart challenge website and app. have a large number of resources for learning about the body, heart, and good habits. There are also videos in which to dance and exercise. The 1st place classroom with the highest funds raised get to PIE FACE MR. MILLER !!!!! The 2nd place classroom with the next highest funds raised win the BEARD CHALLENGE and get to choose what my facial hair looks like for the month of December. The 3rd place classroom with the next highest funds raised get to PIE FACE MR. LOOMER !!!!! This link will take you to the log-in page where you can search for our school, CMIT south, then click "sign up" and follow the steps. https://www2.heart.org/site/SPageNavigator/khc_resources_search.html Have a great weekend and keep those hearts healthy !!

Mrs. Crusoe's Class
Greetings Tiger Family, We have made it to the second quarter. I am so very proud of the hardwork and effort shown by the entire Tiger family. We have plenty of days off this quarter and a lot to cover in Reading and Social Studies Classes. Reading: This week we have begun the second quarter and our second unit Smart Solutions by reading one of my favorite stories “The Penguin Chick”. This week we read the text and determine the main idea of the text. Next week we will revisit Penguin Chick to read it closely to be able to identify text structure the author uses to organize their information. Next week on Friday we will have an assessment on the standards that we have covered during this cycle. CCSS.ELA. RI.3.1, RI.3.2, RI.3.3, RI.3.4, RI.3.7 Social Studies: We have been exploring how we interact with the Earth. This week we explore the natural resources that are on Earth and how humans use their resources. Next week students will complete an in class project about how humans interact with the environment and the effects these interactions have on the environment. Also students will have an assessment on the unit we will begin reviewing on Monday. CCSS.ELA.RI.3.1, RI.3.2, RI.3.7

Kindergarten Beginning of 2nd Qtr.
Happy November! It is crazy that we are already in the 2nd quarter of the school year. Thank you parents for all that you are doing to help your child in school this year. We could not do our job without you! As we enter into the 2nd quarter teacher's standards and expectations are higher. Students/parents should try to turn in work on time. We understand there are different circumstances. Please communicate with your teacher. Student's writing is expected to start with a capital letter, end with end punctuation and use capital letters correctly (not in the middle of sentences). Student's drawings should go along with what the assignment is, be labeled (have your child use their sounds...it does not have to be spelled correctly), and colored in a realistic manner (hair is brown, grass is green, etc.). If you have questions just reach out to your child's teacher. In our classes, we are focusing on decomposing/composing numbers, weather patterns, families/traditions, making healthy decision, writing and comprehension. There is a lot of work to do in Kindergarten. BUT...we have fun, dance and have time to be silly. Our students love to play the game The Floor is Lava! Our November focus is on families and traditions. The monthly project will be to make your family tree. We look forward to sharing our families with everyone! Please, if there are any questions or concerns reach out to your child's teacher. We are all on the same team...cheering these babies on! Thank you again for all that you are doing to make this virtual learning a success!

Communicating with Parents
Parents /Guardians, A primary focus this SY 2020-2021 is Communication-Communicating with all stakeholders. Principal Miller and his admin team will work to ensure that the lines of communication remain open. We encourage you to contact your child’s teacher either through email, parent notes, phone calls, and class dojo. We would also like to inform you that teachers have up to 48 hours to respond to all communication, regardless of the format. Weekend correspondence may not be answered until the weekday. With that said, please be patient as our teachers get the answers to your questions and concerns, and get back to you within the time allowed or if prior arrangements have been made between both parties. Please share your concerns with us first; our goal is to engage you in meaningful conversations that will have an impact on student learning-which is always the end goal. We would like to hear from you. Your feedback is appreciated. Admin Team

New Communication Tool - SchoolMessenger
Prince George’s County Public Schools' new district-wide communication tool, SchoolMessenger will be the replacement for Blackboard. The SchoolMessenger system is a robust communication tool that the district, schools, and teachers will use to communicate with parents, students, and community members using phone calls, emails, social media, and text messaging. What should parents/guardians do? Make sure your contact information (primary telephone and cell phone numbers) is up-to-date at your children’s school(s). This will allow you to receive phone calls and text/SMS messages. Register for the Family Portal if you have not done so already. This will allow you to receive emails from the teacher and school. What should parents/guardians expect? Phone calls will be identified from the district or school by caller ID number. Text/SMS messages will come from 67587. Administrators, teachers, school staff and district staff will be able to send messages and emails using this system.

Personal Safety
Hello Parents! Starting next week and throughout the month of December I will be meeting with all students regarding personal safety. It is a county mandated topic that all Professional School Counselors have to address. The purpose of the lesson is for students to develop the ability to judge between appropriate and inappropriate touch, learn assertive self-protection skills and identify the people whom they can ask for help. I recognize that personal safety can be a sensitive topic. I wanted to ensure that parents are aware of the conversation that will take place. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out.
