Principal's Corner
Good Morning Awesome CMITSES Family, We have safely completed week one of distance learning. We would like to recognize and give kudos to all parents/guardians. Your support has been phenomenal. We could not have succeeded without your support! By now you are aware that the CMIT SES specific long distance learning guide has been distributed on the website and is being implemented. You should also have received a PGCPS Parent Opt-Out form for using digital tools for distance learning. This functions very much the way media/press releases function. It allows families to opt out of online tools that “face-time” students. However, it is expected for all students to continue accessing the Google Classrooms for instruction and to upload their completed assignments. If you have not received an Opt out form, and you would like one, please visit the school website. Go to the Academic tab and hit the Distance Learning tab. Once the document opens, go to the page with the staff schedule. The form is located at the top of the Staff Schedule page. Student Grades Third Quarter Grade Appeal window is Thursday, April 16th - Thursday, April 23rd. No change request will be considered after April 23. Be sure to access School Max to review your student’s grades and communicate with teachers if necessary. The mailing date for report cards is TBD. Teachers are now only required to put one grade per subject, per week, in School Max. Grades will be converted to P (Pass) and I for (Incomplete) at the end of the quarter. Cumulative grades from 60% - 100% will earn students a Pass. Grades below 60% earn an Incomplete. End-of-year cumulative grades will include Quarters one, two, and three with a comment attesting to the fourth quarter occurring distant learning. Student Attendance If students are absent from google lessons due to illness or lack of connectivity, parents are to send an email to the teacher specifically alerting him/her of the absence and the reason for the absence. It has been determined, students attendance will take into consideration whether or not the student participated via PGCPS TV (child was not able to connect with his/her teacher), whether or not the student was online with his/her class/teacher, whether or not the student had any contact with the classroom/teacher, and whether or not the student was sick during the period of the assignments. Distance Learning in 3rd
This week 3rd grade kicked off distance learning with a bang! In Reading and Writing they began to create their own poems! The poems so far have been creative and wonderful to read! In Math students began learning about area and perimeter. They even used some "out of the box" thinking when trying to measure shapes, when tools that may normally be used for measuring we're not at hand! This type of problem solving was wonderful to see! Lastly, in Science students continued learning about inherited traits. For a fun at home activity, students created a baby monster using the traits from two parent monsters! Students were creative and even added their own touch their baby monsters! We want to thank everyone who joined our Google Classrooms and met for live meetings this week! We are looking forward to distance learning with you next week!

Technology Class
Greetings Parents/ Guardians, In technology class, we are using an online program entitled www.learning.com. Our students already have access to learning.com and we have been using the same website since the beginning of the year. When students log in to learning.com the lessons and assignments are already there for them to complete since I will post one new assignment every week. I am only posting the same information on Dojo as a reminder and you do not need to check Dojo for the technology assignment. Each lesson comes with detailed virtual instruction and guided assignments before students complete independent work. I will announce the new assignment on Monday 4/20 through the Class Dojo Message. Instructions are provided in the Parent Letter. I attached the Parent Letter in the newsletter. Thank you Mrs. AK Technology Teacher

Hi CMIT South Tigers, At this time, we are all at our homes , but we can do a lot to improve ourselves. With all these online tools, we can continue to grow regardless of our restrictions. As Rumi said, we human beings can bring color to our environments. "Wherever you stand, be the SOUL of that place" - Rumi

Happy Friday! Yay! We completed the first week of distance learning. It was so nice to see some of you this week. Here are some tips as we enter week 2. Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19, many educators and students have the ability to take their learning temporarily online. From our school community to yours, here are 5 tips for parents who have children participating in distance learning. 1 – Help your child establish and stick to a routine. Even though school has gone to an online learning format, treat school days just like you would if your child was attending school as usual. This includes having them get up at the same time everyday, get properly dressed, and eat a healthy breakfast. 2 – Check in with your child’s teachers. Teachers are usually more than willing to connect with parents via email or phone after school hours. Check in if your child is having difficulty managing the online learning platform or staying on task. Be on the lookout for any communications from teachers indicating that they are having trouble connecting with your child during this time. 3 – Encourage physical activity and exercise. Your child will be sitting in front of their computer for long stretches of time. Encourage them to use the breaks in the day to stretch, walk the dog, or do jumping jacks — any movement helps! 4 – Resist the urge to sit in on classes with your child. While it may certainly be tempting to “pop in” on your child’s classes, please respect their privacy and that of other students. Connect with faculty and staff through email or other communication channels before or after school hours. 5 – Take care of you. This one is extra important, and we hear it often, but take care of you. If you’re not taking care of your own physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs, you will have less energy, space, and patience to connect with and take care of your children. Even 10-15 minutes of scheduled “me” time during the day is beneficial. And, remember that we have the power to come out stronger from this experience, as we learn to adapt our lives and routines in the face of an unexpected yet shared challenge. [peguinhall]
