Scholars have been working diligently as they navigate the third grade curriculum. You can help your scholar by ensuring that they are completing their homework each night and they are coming to school ready to learn. Please remind your scholar that school is a safe environment, and disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated. We have had several grade meetings, where the scholars have discussed issues that have disrupted their learning. We want our classroom environments to be a place that we can flourish, learn, and grow. Please remind your scholar to be kind to others. Updates from the Art Room!
Kindergarten had some fun making food out of modeling clay so next week they should be all ready to make something else fun with clay! The first graders are finishing up their colorful drawings of lions (the one pictured is by Ms. Madison's Koi Mitchell!). The second graders and third graders are working on self portraits and the fourth graders practiced using positive and negative space to make a mask! Lastly, the fifth graders are doing a choice project of either a shoe design or Doodle 4 Google. Pictures are Ms. Derfler's class, Ms. Madison's Koi Mitchell, Ms. Fleet's Noah Dabney (he had a bit of free time and so he built a paper house), Ms. Nick's Yibozi Gamy, and Ms. Cunningham's Khameel Williams! https://doodles.google.com/intl/en_us/d4g/faq/

PE weekly review - GROUP FUN CLUB
Dear Parents and Guardians, This week in PE all classes ( except 4-5 ) continued working on the lesson of jumping and hopping. This week instead of jump roping, students in grades K-1 talked about the differences between jumping and hopping that they can recall from their lessons on locomotor movements earlier in the year. They traveled through an obstacle course with a mixture of jumping and hopping involved. Grades 2-3 were focused on the 5 critical elements of hopping and putting them in order before playing a new fun game called "hippity-hoppity rock paper scissor" where students were to hop through hoops on the floor and when they met the opposing team were to play 1 game of rock paper scissor to see who would advance. Grades 4-5 are finishing their dances. Grade 5 is now done while grade 4 will submit next week due to an absence and a holiday. GROUP FUN CLUB !!! I still need more participants to sign up !! The club is free of charge and only requires a signed club agreement to join. Please print off the agreement attached below and bring with you to club Tuesday if you wish your child to join. This club will meet every Tuesday from 2:55 - 3:55pm and will dismiss to the cafeteria when finished. The club is designed for grades K-2 ONLY and will expand on what is already placed in the curriculum to learn, but with added lessons and activities never played before ! The focus is to encourage the younger students to move outside of the "me" thinking and work together with others on a team to support the "we" idea of thinking. This is a skill used in older grades at centers, sports teams, and future job endeavors. Students will also learn about communicating more effectively to others which is an every-day skill to be utilized. All parents and students must both sign a written agreement to join the club stating that students will behave based on the rules and consequences of P.E. class. Parents are signing the agreement that they will arrive on time at 3:55 and have reliable transportation. The CMIT uniform for P.E. clothes and sneakers applies or equivalent clothing, but sneakers and comfortable clothes are a necessity to play. Water fountains are located in the gymnasium, the first 5-10 minutes of club will be spent eating snack in the cafeteria and going to the bathroom before the club starts. Positions in the club are on a first come first serve basis so please make sure you get the agreement to me ASAP. The agreement is attached along with my e-mail. gloomer@cmitsouthes.org
