Uniforms Backordered, What should your child wear?
The uniform company reported that they had a great influx of parents yesterday needing uniforms in sizes that were not in stock. Ms. Sullivan noted that as soon as the shipments come in on Tuesday or Wednesday they will be shipped to the parents. If your child falls under this category, please have them wear a plain green or blue polo, the khaki pants, and all black shoes. Make certain if you child has physical education that they wear rubber bottom all black shoes to protect the gymnasium floor. If your child gets cold, remember they need to wear a fleece, sweatshirt, or sweater with the logo on it. After next week, the policy will be fully enforced.

First Week in Fourth Grade
What a wonderful first week we've had! It's been a pleasure getting to know all of our students. In Math and Science students have used numbers to get to know his or her classmates. In Reading and Social Studies students read the story of Malala and prepared to keep a reading log. We also practiced how to have an inner conversation when reading. We have practiced procedures, hand signals, classroom rules and norms, and how to show respect for one another. Starting next week we will be sending daily homework and reading logs. If you haven't already done so please return parent surveys. We love to have as much information as possible. Additionally, please also sign up for Class Dojo, paper codes were sent home as well as e-mail. Please check junk mail if you did not receive a code. We look forward to an amazing year!

First Week of School
Dear Parents, It has been a great first week of school, and I have enjoyed getting to know your children. Our focus this week has been on teaching and practicing procedures and classroom expectations and taking baseline assessments to see what your child already knows. Next week, students will begin to access the curriculum, receive homework, and points on class dojo. 88% of our second grade parents are signed up for class dojo. If you need help signing up, please let me know. Thank you for your support. Our partnership is a critical component in ensuring the success of your student academically, socially, and behaviorally. Please feel free to contact me at jbaynham@cmitsouthes.org with any question, comments, or concerns.

One week down!
Hello everyone! I wanted to let you know we had a GREAT first week of school! I am a new teacher and I am blown away by how amazing my class has been. Throughout the week I have seen students go out of their way to help each other, friends cheer each other up if they’re sad, and students who can’t wait to come to school and learn. This week in class we have been getting to know each other in our classroom and establishing routines. We made our classroom rules and talked about procedures we use everyday. We learned how to walk in the hallways, how to wash our hands, how to behave at recess, and other things along those lines. We have also started learning our essential skills such as holding scissors, cutting, gluing, writing our names. These are skills that we will utilize throughout the rest of the school year, so feel free to practice them with your students at home! We will be using Class Dojo as the primary communication tool for reminders from me and as a way to keep you updated on your child’s behavior in class and their classwork. If you have not already joined our class please email me and I will be happy to send you your child’s code! Kindergarten will be starting to send homework home every Monday in their red take home folder. One pocket will say keep at home (for notes, reminders, or finished work) and the other pocket will be return to school (for permission slips and homework). The homework will be sent at the beginning of the week and is expected to be returned by the following Monday, so students will have a week to complete it. These tasks are not meant to be seriously time consuming or extremely difficult, they’re just meant to reinforce skills/concepts and to make sure students are practicing and giving their best effort. What matters to me is that my students are trying. When students try they can succeed! So help them understand and encourage them but please do not do it for them, as tempting as it may be! Thank you very much for your continued support and please feel free to reach out, whether on Class dojo or email!

Kindergarten Art
Hello parents! Here is a sneak peek of our upcoming weeks in Kindergarten Art class! Next week, the students will begin learning about lines and shapes. We will discuss some of the many types of lines/shapes and their names. Students will be able to identify existing lines/shapes within the environment. Using the lines they have learned, students will draw and organize shapes to create an picture. They will use crayons of many colors and learn to stay within the boundaries of the pictures they create. Looking forward: Please begin looking for an old T-shirt for your child to use as a smock during art class. They will keep them in the classroom all year long. Please feel free to email me with and questions or concerns. bfrei@cmitsouthes.org

Third Grade Reminders
After meeting all of my students this week, I am even more excited for this year! Here are some quick reminders as we get this year started. If you need to contact me, my email is david.rowland@pgcps.org. I am still waiting for a few of my parents to join our dojo page. If you are having problems, please reach out to me and let me know. I sent out the notifications to parent emails, so it may have gone into your spam folder. I would also like to thank all of you for your patience and understanding during the dismissal process. It expedites the process to have your PikMyKid dashboard ID tags up when you come, so if you need me to send you your child's tag, just send me a quick email!

First Grade Team - First Week of School!
The first grade classes have been working hard to establish classroom procedures and culture! We spent the first few days learning rules as well as doing lots of introduction "get to know you" activities. Next week, we will start implementing our curriculum throughout the schooldays and start using our textbooks each day! The four first grade teachers this year are Ms. McDonagh (room 161), Ms. Madison (room 162), Ms. Brown (room 163), and Ms. Fleet (room 164). We are all using ClassDojo in our classrooms this year. We did not have 100% participation yet because there are some parents whose emails are not in the system! If you have not received an email invitation for ClassDojo, please email your teachers! Ms. McDonagh's email is lmcdonagh@cmitsouthes.org. Ms. Madison's email is cmadison@cmitsouthes.org. Ms. Brown's email is cbrown@cmitsouthes.org. Ms. Fleet's email is kfleet@cmitsouthes.org. Can't wait for a great year!! :)

Parents, as we come to an end of your babies first week, it is my pleasure to say thank you for your patience and understanding. Taking a moment to reflect on our first week, I think back to my own experience of taking my babies to school. Just like you, I was nervous of the unknown and trusting the (educators) strangers to ensure they were safe and returned to me in the same manner as I dropped them off, only smarter. Unlike you, when my babies went to school I did not have the worries of active shooters, kidnappers and predators entering the school. As you know, time has changed and it is imperative for us to go above and beyond to make sure every student in our possession is safe. I empathize with you being unable to walk your babies to his or her classrooms. However, I am pleased to say we were able to ensure all students remained safe while in our care. So for that, I say thank you-because your support and understanding made keeping all the students and staff safe. Dismissal, brings many challenges to us and is truly teaching us patience and the meaning of implementing new technology. I take a moment to say an extra thank you to the dad who took the time to make sure I remembered to laugh-by informing me the children I brought to his car was not his, as they entered the car. At that moment, I felt my heart leave my body and a feeling of fear came over me, he broke out into a huge laugh. He was just joking, as a way of reminding me things were okay and with new technology there will be challenges. Your continuous patience and support is greatly appreciated as we continue to strive to improve the drop-off and pick-up process. To the mother who made sure we had water, you are a lifesaver. There are several parents who endured the heat with us, by making sure students were escorted to his/her car. Although we are a new family, this week embodied the meaning of teamwork. This week could not have been possible without you trusting us -strangers- with your prize possessions. This week would not be possible without educators and parents working together through trial and errors. For this I joyfully say thank you! As your School Counselor, I am proud to say I have learned the true meaning of having a great CMIT Tiger community from amazing parents and educators. Your support does not go unnoticed.
