FAST # 2 Science Test for 5th Graders
|
Dear 5th Graders Parent/Guardian:
The Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) will be administering Formative Assessment System Test # 2 in Science in Grades 5 beginning January 27, 2020. This test will measure what has been taught in science so far this school year in each of these tested grades. The test results will provide teachers with information to assist in instructional planning for the year as well as a look ahead to the next school year.
Testing will last approximately thirty minutes for each of the tested subjects, spread over two sessions.
Please avoid appointments that may take your child out of school in the mornings of January 27. You can help your child by ensuring that he or she is physically and mentally prepared. Make sure your child has a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast. Help your child to have a positive attitude toward testing!
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact.
Sincerely,
Fatih Metin

We would like to have parent volunteers to help with door decorations and the bulletin board in the spirit of Black History Month. This shows your support of our school and makes the students take pride in that their parents are involved. We are still in short supply of Lysol spray and would like to keep the classroom happy and healthy during the winter season. Also, we are in a short supply of pencils, please ensure that your scholar is coming to school each day with two pencils and eraser. Please continue to donate to our classrooms so that the students will have abundant supplies. We need pencils, Lysol spray, and paper towels.
In Social Studies, the students will prepare their projects and receive lessons for black history month.
In Language Arts, students are focused on writing narratives, taking DRA testing and having classroom discussions based on the reading assignments. We are also learning to write in cursive.
In Math, the students are preparing for the DRA computer-based exam.
In Science, the students should be preparing to present their projects to the class.

P.E. weekly review - BEYBLADE TOURNAMENT
|
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This week in P.E. class, all grades were covering nutrition and healthy eating. The younger grades were able to differentiate between "go" foods ( healthy foods from the 5 food groups that give energy to GO ) and "slow" foods ( junk food/sugary food that slows the body down ). Their class activity was to move like a GO animal or a SLOW animal before playing the next activity which was called "grocery store." The students were asked to walk around the gym and pick up food items ( colored beanbags ) pertaining to each food group and staying away from picking out SLOW food items. After they had three items each, students were asked to find a partner and describe what food item they would choose from each of the food groups they chose in order to make a GO food meal.
The older students played "go food relay" where they had to run out and grab 1 food item ( colored beanbags ) and bring it back to their shopping cart. The older grades were more focused on making healthy choices as they pertained to creating a "balanced meal/diet"
BEYBLADE TOURNAMENT:
Tomorrow, Friday 1/24 students of all grades and genders will be invited to participate ( based on classroom behavior during the week ) in the tournament in the gym from 3pm-4pm. I ask that all parents please be on time picking up students at 4pm in the back by the cafeteria doors. Students are to bring: 1 beyblade, 1 ripper cord, 1 launcher, and 1 stadium in which to battle an opponent. There will be no food or drinks allowed in the gym during the event.

4th Grade!
|
Fourth Grade Parents,
2nd Quarters' end is upon us. STEM Fair projects have been presented, and poster boards will be sent home after grading has been entered. Students who have been awarded 1st-4th place will be displayed in the media center on January 30, 2020 from 4-6. Those students names will be announced after scoring has been counted. Due to STEM presentations the unit conversion assessment will be moved to next week on Thursday. Students have been given an opportunity for extra credit (that was assigned over break) in ReadWorks, and were given until Friday to complete the assignments to boost their grades at the end of the quarter. Extra credit is not being extended in Ms. Young's content areas. Lets encourage students to prepare for a fresh start and to continue to put their best foot forward.

Happy Friday!
Next week is our Port Discovery Field Trip. We are very excited about this trip. Thank you to all our parent volunteers that will be helping.
The STEM Occupation projects look amazing. There has been a lot of hard work done on these projects. I hope you enjoyed this project working alongside your child. We hope to have more projects like this so spending time and learning will be a part of your relationship. Please come out to the next PTO meeting to see all the wonderful projects.
Friday is the end of the marking period. Monday will start the beginning of the 3rd marking period.
Thank you for all your support.
