3rd Grade Greatness
|
This week in third grade we began expanding our understanding of multiplication. We worked with arrays on combining multiplication problems and solving. We are looking forward to expanding our understanding of multiplication as we continue.
In science we continued learning about force and and motion. We learned about magnets and what impact they play on motion and force. Students have certainly shown a great interest in this topic. Please also keep in mind ideas for the upcoming STEM Fair! See Dojo for more information!
I also wanted to say a huge thank you to all those we came to the Honor Roll Assembly!

There are Bulletin Boards and then, There are Bulletin Boards.
|
Our hallways are filled with bulletin boards that give a glimpse of what's taking place inside our classrooms. Project-Based Learning provides the opportunity for our scholars to learn across content areas, while developing research skills necessary for college and career.
Thank You, parents, for the role you play to support the teaching-learning environment.
We are proud tigers!

4th Grade Greatness
|
Congratulations to the 4th grade students who were honored during the 1st Quarter Honor Roll Assembly this week! Keep up the good work. I am looking forward to reaching higher heights this quarter.
As we draw this week to a close, students have learned to analyze non-print texts , draw inferences, and describe the elements of a story referring to details from the text. We have read and analyzed the text and video of The Tiger and the Fox and students have written their own review of the fable. We have practiced unlocking the prompt , comparing and contrasting, and the writing process. Remember, our spelling test will be this week. Ensure you student takes time to prepare accordingly.
Beginning a new chapter in Social Studies, students have started to learn about Native Americans and their culture. We will continue to learn to demonstrate our understanding of the work of historians and archeologists; as well as, identify Native Americans in North America, summarize their human characteristics, and analyze the effects of geography on their culture in the week to come.
Enjoy the weekend ahead of you! The Winter Break is vastly approaching.

Second Grade Team
|
Hello Parents! We are so happy to say that the first field trip for the second grade was a huge success! The students truly enjoyed the Museum and were gifted with a free show! Just as a reminder with the recent weather change, please send students to school with warm weather coats and jackets. Please ensure that your scholar has a pencil case to secure pencils. At this time of year, we are running low on pencils and are willing to accept classroom donations. As the seasons change, we would like to have parent volunteers to help with door decorations and the bulletin board. This shows your support of our school and makes the students take pride in that their parents are involved. We are still in short supply of Lysol spray and would like to keep the classroom happy and healthy during the upcoming fall season. Please continue to donate to our classrooms so that the students will have abundant supplies.
In Reading this week students are beginning to review writing in a sequence and chronological order.
In Social Studies are still learning about early American life and will discuss the 13 Colonies.
In Math, we are working on place value with numbers.
In Science class will be a review of the recent test that was given.
Thank you so much for all of your support.
Ms. Michelle Phillips, Ms. Fleet, Ms. McDonagh, and Ms. Lambert

Welcome Ms. Gregory!!!!!
|
Dear Parents,
Hi! My name is Terri Gregory and I’m so excited to be a part of this wonderful Kindergarten family at CMIT. More IMPORTANTLY, I am thrilled to be your child’s teacher! I have spent time this week getting to know your child and each day I learn something else wonderful about him or her. I am looking forward to the remainder of the school year filled with lots of fun, learning, and adventures and I can’t wait to see what it has in store for us! I would like to get to know you so that we can work as a team to make your child’s learning experience successful here at CMIT, but first, let me tell you a little bit about myself.
I was born and in raised Maryland. I am the oldest of two children and have a really close-knit family. I am a dog mom to a 9-year-old Yorkie, named Bristol. High School is where my passion for children and education grew deeper than it was already. I completed a program in High School that certified me to be a lead teacher in a learning care/daycare setting. Upon graduation from high school, I went straight to college at Bowie State University (GO BULLDOGS!), while working part-time as a lead teacher at Childtime Learning Center. Teaching while attending school gave me hands-on experience while learning pedagogy. I could hardly wait to finish school to start my teaching career in an elementary school. I have my Bachelor’s degree in Child and Adolescent Studies and currently pursuing my Master’s in Early Childhood Education.
In the daycare setting I’ve taught 3, 4, and 5 year olds for 7 years. From there I’ve taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade in Washington, D.C. With this range of experience I am knowledgeable is the skills your child needs to have for kindergarten as well as what they need to be ready as they matriculate through their learning career. I love getting to watch children grow and blossom throughout the school year, I love to watch their personalities develop and getting to know them for who they are. Being a teacher is such a reward and a blessing!
I am available for communication via email at tgregroy@cmitsouthes.org or ClassDojo. I look forward to hearing from you and having an open line communication between us pertaining to your child’s progress in our classroom.
This will be a FANTASTIC school year and again I look forward to spending it with your child.
Sincerely,
Ms. Gregory

CogAT
|
Select fourth and fifth grade students in our school will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test (CoGAT) on the week of December 9. The test will be given in multiple sittings throughout the week in the mornings. The CoGAT is a verbal and non-verbal measure of abstract thinking and reasoning ability.
Those who will be taking the test include students who are new to Prince George’s County as well as any student who was enrolled in a Prince George’s County school last year but does not have a third grade OLSAT score.
Please avoid appointments that may take your child out of school during this time period. Also, it will help your child perform best if he or she comes to school with a positive attitude, a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast.
Results will be available in February, 2020.
