Celebrating Literacy
Character Book Day The second annual Character Book Day was spearheaded by Ms. Cunningham, a 3rd-grade teacher, and her team. The event was very successful. Our scholars and staff celebrated the day wearing colorful costumes depicting favorite characters and parading through the hallways with music provided by the CMIT band under the leadership of Mr. Bailey. It was moving to see proud tigers showing off their books while smiling and waving as they passed by. What wonderful memories this occasion will be, as in the years to come, they reminisce on their elementary school days with friends and teachers. Truly an excellent and meaningful way to celebrate the end of the 1st quarter. Tiger parents, we applaud you for making this celebration meaningful for our scholars. Your support of what we do at school to bring life to reading comes from the energy we draw from your ongoing support, patience, dedication, and communication. Teachers will share pictures of students. Pictures show - a few of our staff members Thank You Lesma Watkis (Interim Principal).

3rd Grade Greatness
This week in 3rd grade students continued to work on multiplication using various types of strategies. We worked in small groups to learn more about multiplication and practiced using these different types of strategies to solve our problems. We even made "Multiplication Monsters" where students were given a multiplication problem, had to solve it in a number of ways and gave their monster googly eyes in the array that represents their multiplication problem. Students even wanted to go above and beyond and write a story about their "Multiplication Monster" it was lots of fun and a new twist on learning multiplication! Lastly, we had a wonderful time in the Book Character Day! It was so great to see all the students dressed as different book characters!

Fourth Grade Parents, In Reading, have completed our first independent reading of On the Banks of Plum Creek. As we read, we have identified the literary elements. This week students were introduced to foreshadowing. As we continued reading On the Banks of Plum Creek we used context clues to identify foreshadowing in the text and make predictions. Standard: RL.4.1, RI.4.1 RF.4.4 In Math, next week we will continue discussing comparative multiplication (example 12 is 3 times larger than 4, or 4 times larger than 3). We will also review multi-digit addition and subtraction. November 6, 2019 we will have a quiz on these two standards. Standard: 4.OA.1, 4.NBT.4 In Science, we are finishing up lesson 1 of Unit 7 - fossils and rock layers. Study guide questions will come home as we finished each of the 3 lessons in the Unit. The Unit 7 exam is tentatively scheduled for November 13, 2019. Standard: 4-ESS1-1 Identify evidence from patterns in rock formations and fossils in rock layers to support an explanation for changes in a landscape over time. In Social Studies, we have divided the United States into its five regions. We have discovered the difference between weather and climate; we have also briefly discussed the climate in the five regions of the United States. Next week, we will take a closer look at what makes each region uniquely different from the next. Standards: CCSS.SS.4.3 In Health, we will be discussing the digestive system, and Dr. BB will come in to continue discussions. Standards: 6.0 - Nutrition & Fitness - Exploring the digestive process, balancing calories and nutrients, influences that affect eating habits and patterns, and becoming a careful consumer All assignments are due by Friday, November 1, 2019. All make up work or re-do assignments MUST be turned in by Friday in order to be considered for entry into SchoolMax. Beginning next quarter any late assignment will automatically have points deducted.

Hello from the Art Room!
This week I hung up some of the Kindergarten snowflakes in the hallway. Next to go up will be some first grade line landscapes, including ones by Sophia and Skye from Ms. Madison's class! Second grade finished painting their line designs, which I may say are pretty great on their own, but that's not what the finished product will be quite yet! Third grade started work on adding color to their object drawings, fourth grade is almost done painting their own Great Waves and fifth grade started work on their one point perspective roads! Let's get creative, Miss James

Amazing Spirit Week!
The Anti-Bullying Spirit Week was awesome to say the least! So many students and staff participated. Not only did the students participate but they understood that we were building awareness of our fight against bullying. Even though Anti Bullying month is coming to an end we want to encourage students to continue to stand up against bullying. Best,
