Mr. Rowland's Presidential Fact of the Week
William Henry Harrison was our ninth president. He served the shortest term of any president, dying after serving just 31 days. President Harrison also hold the record for longest inaugural speech, with a length of 8,445 words! It was 41 degrees outside during the inaugural ceremony and President Harrison chose not to wear a coat, gloves, or a hat!

Week of Sept 26
Greetings Parents, Students worked well this week. We were able to discuss more about multiplication and division strategies. We also began to discuss our first Science Inquiry. Students are working better on Their online applications as well. Remember, students should be on Xtramath once a day. This will help students with their basic computation skills. Students main assignments come from cK-12. They will also receive homework on Khan Academy starting tonight. Students have access to Khan Academy and cK-12 through their Google Accounts. Students have the code for Xtra Math. Always log in to Google from your browser, then students just have to click Sign in with Google for those sites. As usual, if you need me, please contact me. Have a great weekend.

The First Month
Hello from the Visual Arts room! This week our kindergarten artists showed me what lines they remember from last week's worksheet and what they know about pattern by starting work on their snowflakes. The first grade artists learned some basic lines and learned about a famous painter named Grant Wood. They watched a video about him( https://safeshare.tv/x/ss5817943d7bfd6#v) and all I'm going to tell you before their projects are finished is get ready for some arctic landscapes! The second grade created some origami penguins complete with googly eyes, the third and fourth graders finished their sketchbook covers, and the fifth grade painted some cardboard arctic animals and ice burgs with some...interesting results! Let''s just say their imaginations transcend labeling! Let's get creative!

Kindergarten Science Experiment!
This week we completed our first science experiment in Kindergarten. We set out to find out what effect the sun has on ice. First we recorded in our science journals our predictions. Most of us predicted the ice would melt while a few scholars thought the ice would stay the same. Then we filled a container with ice and set it outside in the sun. We checked in on our ice during recess and noticed that there was mostly water. Just before dismissal we checked again. We discovered all the ice had melted!

Ms. Madison’s Class
This week, our class has really expanded on topics introduced to us last week! These topics include the following: RELA - We have continued learning about small moments in a personal narrative, and added stretching out each small moment to include details! We have also introduced long vowel sounds, statement sentences, and questions! Math - We have continued to work on story problems and have specifically started expanding on the concept of missing addends! We are also continuing lessons on breaking numbers into tens and ones. Science - We are expanding on lessons about day and night! We have specifically learned about earth spinning on its axis to cause day and night, as well as different seasons! Social Studies - We are expanding our lessons on communities to include characteristics of a good citizen! We even got to revisit our science lessons on engineering while learning about citizenship and laws by reading the story Noodlephant - a story about an elephant who loves making and sharing noodles until this is outlawed by kangaroos! She used her Phantastic Noodler to change anything into noodles and show citizenship! The class will take the MAP-M next Friday (October 4) from 8-10:15, so please ensure that students arrive promptly at 8:00 or earlier. In addition, our DRA testing dates are October 8 and 10. Have a wonderful weekend!

Building a Rapport
Hello, Communication is essential in any relationship. Here are 5 things to ask your child instead of "How" was school? 1. What made you smile today? 2. Who did you sit with at lunch? 3. If you could change one thing about today what would that be? 4. What was the hardest rule to follow today? 5. Tell me something you know today that you did not know yesterday. These are great conversation starters to encourage an open and honest relationship. Best,

P.E. - Locomotor review
Dear Parents and Guardians, This week in Physical Education classes, all grades reviewed the major locomotor movements for another week as we explored new activities in which to practice our skills ! The grades, K-2, played multiple rounds of "locomotive sharks and minnows" while the older grades, 3-5, played an adapted version of "locomotive noodle tag" where students had to perform the locomotor movement the teacher called out and escape capture in both games. Club sign ups should be coming out soon through out building coordinator Mr. Metin. If approved, my club "Sports Mix" will be for grades 3-5 only and will offer the basic knowledge and skills practiced for a new sport each week. Itineraries and contracts will be given out to those who successfully sign up through Mr. Metin's program.
