Emergency Plan Practice
|
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
The safety of your children, our staff, and our school will always be our highest priority. During this week we practiced Shelter in Place Drill (05/16) and Fire Drill (05/17). Next week we will continue to practice Evacuation Drill (05/20) and Reverse Drill (05/24 for selected classes).
The goal of these drills is to build everyone`s capacity for implementation and to ensure that if an emergency does occur, all are well-prepared and knowledgeable of their role in the process.
We were very proud of the way our students were responsible and listened to the directions of their teachers during the drill. Instruction resumed within 10 minutes.
Thank you,
The CMIT South ES Administrative Team

Happening's in Libebe"s Fifth
|
Happy Friday! Students have begun a student teaching unit to review all the lessons they've learned this year. Each day a student will be presenting a lesson to the class, I can't wait to see what they come up with! In science we will continue through our book to review material. This is a great time of year (not just because of the nearing summer break) but also great for students to freshen up their skills!
Correction on how many tickets are allotted to each family for Promotion, each family will have access to FOUR tickets. Attached is more clarification on what is expected for students to wear on the day of promotion. More information will be forthcoming! Progress Reports have been hand delivered into your child's backpack (by yours truly) Please ask to see them so your family can be informed on how they are doing!
Have a great weekend and thank you for all of your support!

3rd Grade with Ms. Pav
|
As the end of the year starts to come to a close a lot of students are not coming in with pencils, crayons, scissors, and glue. This items are still necessary for your scholar to be successful!
Homework is still a must! Homework is worth 15% and some students have not been taking homework seriously.
This week coming up we will still be looking at the wagon train and how people traveled west!
Spelling words will be posted on Monday.
Enjoy your weekend!

1st Grade Updates!
|
This week, 1st Grade is still hard at work! For ELA, we are finishing up DRA testing, as well as practicing reading nonfiction and fiction texts - specifically, we have been reading about creepy crawly insects! We are also learning about contractions and adverbs. In math, we are reviewing comparing numbers (i.e. greater than, less than, equal to), in science we are learning how animals take care of their young, and in social studies we are learning about goods and services! The year is winding down, but the 1st Grade team is encouraging everyone to finish their year strong. Have a wonderful weekend!

P.E. Review - Thanks parents
|
Dear parents and guardians,
This week in P.E. the students learned the importance of defining and applying strategy and tactics to the class activities they played. We also discussed as a class how strategy can be used in areas of life outside of friendly competition. We defined strategy as a plan that one wishes to accomplish and tactics are the tools in which you are going to use to implement that plan.
THANKS PARENTS
Thank you to all parents who showed their appreciation to myself and the teachers in general. It always helps to show thanks for our efforts not just by gift, but by the thought itself. For me, it is like having a full day of bad shots on the golf course, but everything is made sweeter by those few "close to the pin" shots that keep you fighting to the end.
FIELD DAY
Field day is scheduled for June 13 ( the day BEFORE school lets out ) with the younger kids being in the morning ( so they aren't in the heat and can have a normally scheduled lunch and the older grades, 3-5, during the second half of the day for the same lunch reasons. More information will be shared in following newsletters.

2nd & 3rd Grade Art
|
Hello Parents! Lately in Art, students have been learning all about Yarn Paintings. This Mexican art form was originated by the Huichol people of Mexico. Students learned all about the process and how they are made. Traditionally, a layer of beeswax is applied to a flat surface where yarn is then later pressed down, creating a picture. This week, students were able to brainstorm and design their own yarn painting masterpieces. Some students even started using yarn!
Check out this link to learn more about Huichol people and their art!

This week in Kindergarten...
ELA
Our last few weeks of school we will continue to work on our writing practices as well as reading. Just because we are almost done our Kindergarten year does not mean we are going to slow down. Ask your child what an illustrator, author and editor does. They have been working hard on all these positions.
Math
We are still focusing on refining all of the lessons we have learned so far. We are trying to hone those addition and subtraction skills and will continue this over the next few weeks. Continue to practice at home!
Science
This week in science we learned about the sun and shade. We discussed how the sun helps keep our earth warm but also what can protect us from the sun and how shade can help. We will continue to learn and explore all the things that are apart of our earth and our environment. The students are really enjoying learning about all of these things that connect to the real world.
Social Studies
This week we learned that we use money to buy things we need and want. Money can be used to buy clothing and a Chromebook but cannot be used to buy things such as mountains or the sun. Then we looked at the different types of bills and coins. We learned that Abraham Lincoln’s picture is on a penny.
Each classroom will be testing this week and next week. Our focus is on reading and reading behavior. If you have any questions please contact your child’s teacher.
