The Tardy count keep RISING!!!!
Parents, Getting your child here to school on time is vitally important. There were 234 students tardy this week. Here is the breakdown: 12/17: 47 12/18: 52 12/19: 45 12/20: 45 12/21: 45 Arriving late to school can also mean that students miss out on activities designed to build connections with their peers, potentially impacting their social interactions and creating a greater sense of alienation from their classmates. Source: https://www.teachermagazine.com.au/articles/the-effect-of-student-tardiness-on-learning. The door in the back for the cafeteria closes at 8:00a.m sharp!!!! We start letting student's into the building through the Main Office at 8:00a.m. We will not let student's ENTER the building in the front until 8:00a.m unless you have a conference or meeting with a teacher/admin that works at CMIT South ES. Please remember that your child is consider late to school at 8:06a.m. A parent/guardian MUST come into the school to sign their student in on the late arrival sheet when your child is walking through the doors at 8:06a.m. Front Desk Staff

Happy Holidays
December Holiday! The best time of year to look back and reflect on how much we have learned. Best time for scholars to catch up on work missed. Best time to read that book you have always wanted to read and spend time with family and friends. REMINDERS- PGCPS winter packets for 1st -5th graders are on the website. Print and have students read and practice each day. Even if they read for 20 minutes each day, it will make a great impact on their learning. The website for packets:-https://www1.pgcps.org/search.aspx?q=winter%20student%20enrichment%20packetsHappy Holidays. Parents and guardians have a great time away from school. Be safe and make it a break well spent.

P.E. - Week 14 and holidays
Seasons greetings Parents and Guardians, I've heard from some kids that told me they had a good time working on underhand throwing this week and liked the games. ALL students were impressed with and couldn't help but find themselves trying out the hopscotch courts painted. I even got my early holiday wish of spreading cheer through introducing 4-square ! Its tough to learn at first, but once kids learn the tricks, it grows on you fast. ARRIVALS / DISMISSALS: We are still seeing parents/siblings getting out of cars to get their children out. It is an arduous process, but the CMIT STAFF are the only people who are allowed to walk among the traffic as we are held liable and not parents/other siblings. Parents must also wait in the 2 car lines for arrival and dismissal times. The bus lane is for BUSES ONLY and for getting cars out of traffic who already have their children. It is NOT an express lane. My outside staff and I are going to have to call administration on families that consistently do not follow these guidelines. Honking is also used for emergencies only. It has gotten worse over the past few weeks. Many families are patient in these matters and we thank you for your continued cooperation. Have a great holiday break and don't forget to stay active and read !

Happening's in Libebe's Fifth
Ahh yes, the sweet sweet smell of Winter Break! Winter break packets were sent home today for both Math and Science. These packets will be entered into schoolmax as multiple homework assignments, so it will need to be returned to school Jan 2, completed. As a reminder if a student loses their packet or insists there is nothing for them to do, please direct them to Khan Academy and Zearn (they have log in information for both) so that they can keep the concepts that we have learned this year fresh. Please take a minute to stop in the cafe to check the lost and found. As we know, the colder weather brings extra coats, jackets, and sweaters to the lost and found so if you're child is missing something that would be a great place to check. Students have been working very hard for this first half of the year and I am extremely proud of their progress. The break is much needed and I hope they enjoy. I will see you when classes resume on Jan 2! As always, thank you for your continued support and Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

3rd Grade Happenings!
Third Grade has worked really hard this week! They are so ready for winter break and they totally deserve it! This week we finished up reading "Tops and Bottoms" by Janet Stevens. Then we took time writing on their Winter Stories, which I am so excited to get to read over break! Over break they do have a winter assignment to complete. I will also be sending home an extra credit packet. It is a test practice since PARCC season will be upon us soon! I hope you and your family have a nice winter break. Get tons of rest and see you next year! Snowflakes and Hot Coco,
