Pastries with the Principal
A HUGE thank you to ALL the parents who attended Pastries with the Principal. Principal Miller and his team hosted visiting parents by grade level. During this event, our parents were presented with an overview of our school: academic and attendance data, our focus, and plans as we move forward into the future. There were also opportunities for parents to ask questions and share their concerns. We listened to how we can grow more as a school. Parents: Thank you for partnering with CMIT Elementary Charter School.

Happy Friday Tiger Family, Week 15 is approaching and we are entering the 3rd week of the 2nd Quarter. Congratulations to all those awarded for their accomplishments and success for the 1st Quarter. We are looking forward to even more growth and success at the end of the 2nd Quarter. As always, we ask parents to review and sign agenda books nightly and review updates in SchoolMax weekly. We want you all to stay informed regarding your Tiger’s performance and SchoolMax is the most accurate and efficient way to do so. Sections 43 & 44 Reading: This week we have started unit 2 in our curriculum and switched back to Reading Workshop. Unit two focuses on adaptations and the essential question- How do living things adapt to the world around them? This week we read the story Feathers: Not Just for Flying by Melissa Stewart. Students focused on what different purposes that animal adaptations serve. While reading this story we worked closely with the main idea and supporting details, context clues, and monitoring comprehension. Next week we will continue to work with our story and end the week with a brochure for this topic. Math: This week in Math we focused on Topic 3-1 Multiplying by multiples of 10, 100 and 1000. We also worked on using previously learned skills like mental math and place value as strategies that can be used to solve multiplication problems. Reminder “Topic 3” Pick A Project is not due until the end of the Topic 3. Science: This week we continued exploring lesson 1 Energy and resource conversation. Students participated in 2 investigations, the 1st focused on comparing how quickly resources can disappear if they are used without being replaced, the 2nd investigation focused on designing a closed circuit using an LED bulb, copper, zinc, potatoes, wires and potatoes. Reminder STEM FAIR Projects are due January 9, 2023. Research papers are to be submitted to Ms. Pavignano. Please remember that students should complete and submit their work. Helping your student(s) is encouraged, we ask that you not write for your student(s). Social Studies: In social studies this week, students started Chapter 2 Lesson 2. They will learn about how the Americans helped shape the land. They will identify different early Americans and what they did that was beneficial to the United states.

Our standards this week were 4.NBT.B.4, 4.NBT.B.5, 4.OA.A.2, 4.OA.A.3. Our key terms for the upcoming lessons are Partial Products, Numerical Expressions, Commutative Property of Multiplication and Distributive Property of Multiplication. Our goal next week is to demonstrate mastery of Topic 3 and begin to discover Topic 4; which discusses using the same strategies to multiply multi-digit by two-digit numbers. The standards for the first 3 lessons of our new topic are___. We will continue to use our previous academic language in this topic. Our students are changing the future with an Hour of Code
Dear Parents, We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works. But only a fraction of us are learning how technology works. Only 51% of all high schools offer computer science. That’s why our entire school is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (December 5-11). More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code. Our Hour of Code is making a statement that CMIT Elementary is ready to teach these foundational 21st-century skills. See https://hourofcode.com/us/en/learn for details, and help spread the word.

Parents/Guardians, Thank you for supporting learning at home. Our home hours are almost comparable to the hours utilized at school. This is due to your support of program usage at homne. We can still do better. We can do it. If students spend 15 minutes on math ad 15 minutes on reading each evening, the gains they make would impact their learning at school. Additionally, this practice is instilling study habits that will motivate students as they matriculate through the grades. Thank You parents Keep your students engaged in learning. Respectfully,
