On a personal note – She’s the proud parent of two sons. Ms. Lewis is an avid traveler and learner. In her spare time, she travels with her family to as many new places as possible. The best education you'll get is traveling. Nothing teaches you more than exploring the world and accumulating experiences. She loves to read and has run several 5ks, 10ks and half marathons. Her uncompromising view is that all students can learn if given a positive learning atmosphere that welcomes exploration and enhances student confidence. It is her belief that an educator’s mission is to make school enjoyable and exciting – if students look forward to attending school, they will want to LEARN.

When you see me teaching students you will see paint, markers, crayons, construction paper, and glue. WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN!
Dear Families, We hope you had a fantastic summer and are ready to see your child grow and learn in Kindergarten. Research states that the more directly parents and guardians are involved in their child’s education, the more successful the child will be in school. So, we are looking forward to being partners with you in making this an exciting and successful year! Kindergarten is a special place where children become acclimated to school culture. Learning school culture will involve learning classroom expectations and routines, engaging in peaceful social interactions, and participating in gaining knowledge about concepts. Kindergarten is the time for establishing dear friendships and learning the importance of being part of a community. Kindergarten is also a time for establishing the academic foundation for first grade. We enjoyed meeting all of the parents, guardians, and family members at our orientation last week. If you were unable to attend, we are looking forward to meeting you in the near future. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s classroom teacher. This is my 4th year as the counselor at CMIT and I would not want to be anywhere else! I am a product of Prince George's County and I am proud to serve in my own community. I am a graduate of Temple University and received my masters in School Counseling and Mental Health from Trinity Washington University. As the Professional School Counselor, I play an instrumental role in working directly with your child on their academic, career and personal/social development. My goal is to provide all of our students with a wealth of knowledge and materials to encourage social emotional development and academic achievement. Each year individual and small group services are available for students, as well as classroom guidance lessons. These services promote personal and social growth, which, in turn, raise academic standards. I believe all our students are resilient and have the ability to succeed with all the support from myself, teachers and the staff here at CMIT. Thanks for the opportunity to work with your children! I am excited to begin the school year. If you should have any questions and/or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at dchandler@cmitsouthes.org.

Welcome to CMIT South Elementary School! My name is Fatma Ak. This will be my fifth year at CMIT South Elementary School. I have an ESL degree, studied computers after college, and earned Microsoft Office Certificate. I taught Microsoft Office and other programs at elementary and middle schools in other states. I traveled a lot internationally. I love meeting people and learning about different cultures. Working with children and helping them succeed in school is my passion. I am so excited to work with your children this year! Mrs. AK Technology Teacher
