Fabulous Fourth Grade
Greetings All, This is a friendly reminder that we are being MCAP Math testing on Monday May 9, 2022. Students will have four days of testing. We ask that all students arrive to school on time, with a fully charged Chromebook, headphones, and a mouse if one is needed for their Chromebook. Students that do not arrive to school on time will not be apart of the testing session. Those students will have to miss class time to complete a make up test. Reading: This week students had the opportunity to create their first blog using an app called Seesaw. Students created blogs about the origin story of a tall tale, folktale, or another type of legend. Students also collaborated by commenting on the posts of other students. Next week students will created video blogs or "vlogs" about which storm they believe to be the most extreme. Students will gather information about their chosen storm to record their opinion to share with the class. Lastly to end the school year students will be participating in Novel Study with the book "Flora and Ulysses." Just like last year each student will be given their own book to keep. Students will be responsible for bringing their book to reading class and bringing it home to complete activities and other projects. The books will arrive sometime next week and we hope to begin the Novel Study on Monday May 16, 2022. Math: As we enter into the 4th Quarter, scholars have continued Unit 4.7 which is our Measurement unit. Last week we have wrapped up Lesson Series 2. This Lesson Series will merge scholars knowledge of area and perimeter with unit conversions. Students also began looking at types of angles right, acute, and obtuse. CCSS.M.4.NF.3 & CCSS.M.4.MD.4 Science: This week we finished our mini-lesson on reducing, reusing and recycling, students wrote, produced and performed commercials to encourage others to conserve resources and protect the environment. This week we also began our unit on Wave properties and Wave types. Social Studies: May is Asian and Pacific Islanders Month. This month students will be building background about well known and little known people of Asian and Pacific Island descent. Please ensure that students are finishing up any work that might be missing or the Social Studies class. To all the mothers of fourth grade we hope you have an amazing and relaxing Mother's Day!

3rd Grade Updates!
Hi everyone! We had so much fun with the vocabulary parade, thank you all who participated! Also, thank you to all who sent us kind messages and gifts this week for Teacher Appreciation Week, we appreciate you all so much and we are very grateful! A special thanks to our amazing PTO who also did what they could to make us all feel special this week! The time is finally here...On Monday, the MCAP MATH assessment begins! Students need to be ON TIME as we will start promptly, and students cannot enter the room once we begin the test. There can be no disruptions. Please make sure students get a good night sleep before the tests each day next week, and it is crucial that students come to school with a CHARGED CHROMEBOOK!! Also, if students have headphones, they should bring those as well. Students should continue practicing their Quizlet vocabulary words as well as the practice tests online to help prepare for the test. We hope students don't stress, try their best, and take their time on the tests this week. They will test each morning from Monday-Thursday. Friday there are no tests and it is an early dismissal day! Let's make sure we continue to check Canvas daily so we can keep up with all of our work for the fourth quarter! Please use our Google Site as it has many helpful resources for you all! There is a weekly assignment breakdown that can help parents keep up with students' assignments, a grade level newsletter, and many other important resources. Here's the link to our google site: https://sites.google.com/pgcps.org/3rdgradeclasssite From your 3rd Grade Team! :)

2nd Grade Updates!
Awesome 2nd Grade Families, It's almost time for progress reports in 4th quarter and before you know it, we'll be ready to start summer vacation! This week in reading, we will be moving forward with Unit 5 Week 3. The essential question for the week is, "What do heroes do?" and we will be talking about different types of heroes and why we consider them to be heroes. In math, we will be reviewing skills and moving into geometry. Students should know vocabulary words like side, angle, vertex, and all of their shapes. Be on the look out for new STEAM projects coming home for the month of May. Students will be creating their own board games!
