Being on Time: Every School Day Counts
|
Parents/ Guardians,
Thank you for sending/taking our scholars to school time on time. It is imperative that students are on time each and every day. Being on time help students develop a positive attitude about school and career readiness.
This week I will share an article about the importance of attendance to student learning in the early grades:- the article focuses on attendance: however, when students are tardy, it means they are absent from and missing the first class of the day which in many classes is reading.
https://www.attendanceworks.org/chronic-absence/the-problem/10-facts-about-school-attendance/
School attendance is a priority at the district level, and it is also our priority at CMIT @ South to ensure that all our scholars are attending school on time.
Please help students arrive on time every time.
Thank You
Respectfully,
L. Watkis (Assistant Principal)

2nd Grade Updates
|
Hello Incredible Second Grade Friends and Families!
Third Quarter is already almost over! The end of the quarter is April 7 followed by April 8, which is a 2 hour early dismissal for teacher development. Please be sure to check SchoolMAX for missing assignments and reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions concerning grades. STEAM Musical Instrument projects are due this upcoming week on Thursday, March 31st.
Also, just a friendly reminder to send in reusable water bottles for scholars to save plastic! While we don't have water fountains, we do have bottle refill stations.
Next week in reading, we will be finishing up Unit 4. This unit has been focused on learning about nature through folktales that explain how things work in the world. Be on the look out for new spelling and vocabulary words coming home in spelling journals on Monday!
In math, classes will be working on addition and subtraction with numbers within 1000. You can support this by working on fluency in everyday situations (like at the grocery store or in the kitchen, etc.).
In social studies, we will be continuing on with Women's history month this week and cover Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson and RBG!
In science, we are pushing forward in Unit 2 about Matter. Students will be exploring the differences between the states of matter and how substances can change between the different states of matter.
Please be sure to check Class Dojo Classroom Stories daily to stay updated with what is happening in your scholar's class.

3rd Grade Updates!
|
Hi everyone! We are just about to enter a new month and Spring Break is approaching soon!
We are continuing to learn about many different influential people for Women's History Month in our classes! We have been enjoying reading biographies about women of all different professions who changed the world today!
Let's make sure we continue to check Canvas daily so we can keep up with all of our work for the third quarter!
We are at the point in the year where school supplies are low and we are running out of cleaning wipes. If anyone would like to donate cleaning wipes, we would greatly appreciate it! Also, students have been coming to school without pencils, so please make sure your child comes to school prepared with all of their own supplies!
Thank you SO much to all of the parents who came to Parent University this week to learn more information about the upcoming MCAP assessment. 3rd Grade is the first year students will take the assessment in the Spring, so we want students to be as prepared as possible! There are Reading and Math Vocabulary terms posted on Canvas for students to get familiar with the language they will need, and there are also Quizlets to help students study! They are posted to Canvas. Our presentation from Parent University has also been uploaded to Class Dojo for all parents to access, embedded with all clickable links to the resources!
Please use our Google Site as it has many helpful resources for you all! There is a weekly assignment breakdown that can help parents keep up with students' assignments, a grade level newsletter, and many other important resources. Here's the link to our google site:
