Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program
|
Fabulous Parents/Guardians,
If you have a child in the 3rd-5th grade, they will participate in the spring MCAP assessments.
Federal law requires that all students in grades 3-8 and high school take an annual statewide assessment.
To support all scholars, CMIT is hosting: MCAP Parent Night.
Please plan to attend.
Respectfully,
Ms. Watkis

Updates from the Art Room!
|
Checking in on the art room at the end of second quarter you would have seen some awesome art! Pictured below are torn paper landscapes made by 2nd grade, inspired by the artist Romare Bearden! We had many great and insightful discussions on what makes Mr. Bearden so awesome. Then the 2nd grade learned about the parts of a landscape (background, middle ground, foreground). Lastly, they were given a box of construction paper, a glue stick, and their imaginations!
The 4th grade completed a positive and negative shapes design, inspired by African masks! Positive space is the object and negative space is the area around the object. Usually, art like this is done in black and white, but I wanted the students to have more choices! For this artwork, the positive is the color paper and the negative is the white paper because I thought the white would look cool against the school walls when hung up, almost as though our local artists painted it. I love how detailed many of them were!
Stay happy, healthy, and creative!

3rd Grade Updates!
|
Hi everyone! We are just about to enter SPRING and we are so happy for the warmer weather!
We are continuing to learn about many different influential people for Women's History Month in our classes! We have been enjoying reading biographies about women of all different professions who changed the world today!
Let's make sure we continue to check Canvas daily so we can keep up with all of our work for the third quarter!
We are at the point in the year where school supplies are low and we are running out of cleaning wipes. If anyone would like to donate cleaning wipes, we would greatly appreciate it! Also, students have been coming to school without pencils, so please make sure your child comes to school prepared with all of their own supplies!
3rd Grade is the first year students will take the MCAP standardized assessment in the Spring! We are preparing students to the best of our abilities and we could use your help too! There are Reading Vocabulary terms posted on Canvas for students to get familiar with the language they will need, and there is also a Reading Vocabulary Quizlet to help students study! Use the following link for the Quizlet and please have students practice at home! https://quizlet.com/_b8pkyf?x=1jqt&i=4by79z
There will also be a presentation on March 24 to help give parents an idea of how to help their child and what to expect on the MCAP. Please attend if possible, we would love to give you all the information we have!
Please use our Google Site as it has many helpful resources for you all! There is a weekly assignment breakdown that can help parents keep up with students' assignments, a grade level newsletter, and many other important resources. Here's the link to our google site:

Grade Level Knowledge
|
Parents/Guardians,
It is March, and we are counting down. This is a great time for you to consider if your scholar has mastered/is mastering what they should know. Perhaps, you ask yourself, What should my child know for the next grade level? How can I find out? These are very important questions and your child's teacher is the first person to help answer these questions. So, go ahead! start this conversation and set new goals for learning. Remember to motivate and support your child to stay focused to reach them.
Please use these lists as additional indicators to determine how you can help your child review and work towards being on/staying/exceeding grade-level standards.
Finally, as you help count down with your scholar, learn and grow with them. Read the books they read. Have them teach you what they are learning in math. Pretend that you need them to explain because you don't remember how to do the skill:) This last one always get my students, so they were always excited to teach.

Next time, I will post a quick list for each grade level.
Thanks for all your hard work to support scholars' learning.
