Decades Parade!
It's always great when we can look back and reflect on our past. This is exactly what CMIT South tigers did this past Friday. These pictures show their interpretation of a blast from the past during the decades' parade. Congratulations to the Black History Committee on a job-Well Done!

Grade Level Greatness
Fabulous Fourth Grade
Reading: This week was a short week but we got a lot accomplished. We finished our second story in our unit of Diversity. In the story Mama’s Window we learned about how our experiences help us to see the world differently. Students continued to work on inference, plot, and describing the character. Next week we will begin an autobiography called “Trombone Shorty.” While reading the story students will continue to make inferences, plot the life events of the character, and determine how text and graphic features help readers understand the story. If you are ordering from Scholastic all orders and money are due by Tuesday March 1, 2022. Orders can be taken online using this link: https://orders.scholastic.com/MF27J Math: This week was a short one but scholars worked hard each and every day. We entered Lesson Series 2 of our Fractions Unit. Scholars learned to decompose composite fractions into smaller unit and composite fractions; decompose composite fractions into a sum of smaller unit and composite fractions with the same denominator; and use line plots to display fractional data and answer questions regarding fractional data. CCSS.M.4.NF.3 & CCSS.M.4.MD.4 Social Studies- This week students learned about Historically Black Colleges and Universities. We discussed the historic and cultural importance of the institutions. Students we also given the opportunity to create a Google Slide Presentation about a HBCU of their choosing. Science- This week students completed their Rube Goldberg Machine designs and presented their creation.

2nd Grade Updates
Hello Awesome 2nd Grade Parents and Guardians! This week we are FINALLY back to a full 5 day week with no testing (YAY!!!!)! Students should also be completing their Black History Month projects in order to meet the presentation deadline of Monday. This is a graded project that will be input as an assessment grade on Monday. As we are entering the 3rd quarter, please consider refilling the following supplies for your student as well as classroom donations since we are running low. All students should have: Pencils Crayons Glue Sticks Scissors In reading, we will be getting back to the standard curriculum and continuing on to Unit 4. Our essential question this week is, “What makes different parts of the world different?” and we will be looking at different places around the world during this unit. In Math, we will be continuing to work on subtraction. Students will either be working on numbers within 100 or within 1000. All students should be working towards adding and subtracting mentally within 100 by the end of the year. In Science, we will be wrapping up our unit on changes to the earth’s surface. Be on the lookout for a Dojo post about the upcoming unit assessment. In Social Studies, we are pushing forward on our changes throughout the time unit. The essential RELA skill is comparing and contrasting with a specific focus on the past and present of our country. Spelling words will be differentiated going forward and will be sent out on Mondays in student spelling journals. Vocabulary Words: Eerie - mysterious and frightening Growth - the process of getting bigger or older Layers - a thickness of something that is spread over a surface Lively - being full of life Location - place or position that something is Region - a large, connected area of space Seasons - one of the four certain times of the year Temperate - a moderate amount of something, not a lot and not a little
