MAP Growth Tests & Science 5 Tests
|
Hi Tiger Family,
This coming week our 1st, 2nd , 3rd ,4th and 5th Graders will have MAP Growth Tests to measure their Growths in the areas of Mathematics and English Language Arts from Fall to Winter.
Additionaly 5th graders will have their Pearson Science Tests.
The results will not be utilized for grading, but they will be utilized to capture the students' needs and to provide adquate support.
The tests will be given on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Please send our scholars to the school with fully charged chromebooks, after having a adequate breakfast and sleep.
Sharing a paragraph from Food research and Action Center below:
"Children who eat a complete breakfast have been shown to work faster and make fewer mistakes in math problems and to perform better on vocabulary tests than those who ate only a partial breakfast. They also show improved concentration, alertness, comprehension, memory and learning."
I have added below two links reflecting the researches about having adequate sleep and healthy breakfast on students success.
Have a nice weekend.

In Math, we are working on subtracting within 100. You can support us at home by giving students basic subtraction problems with sums up to 10 (then 20, then 30, etc. as they improve) to increase their mathematical fluency. Some classes are ready to move on to adding and subtracting with numbers greater than 100.
In Social Studies and Science, we are continuing our units on the past and present and changes that happen to Earth's surface.
Just a reminder that we will be having a short Valentine's Day exchange at the end of the day on Monday. Students are asked not to come with food to hand out, as it goes against our COVID policies to keep students safe.
We will also be celebrating the 100th day of school on Wednesday this week. Students are invited to participate by dressing up as a 100 year old and we will participate in 100-centered activities throughout the day.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your homeroom teacher for clarification!

Greeting Tiger Family!
Our 4th grade scholars have completed our first lesson series within out new unit. This week we have taken time to discover that fractions can be represented and compared on a number line as a distance from zero. We've also practiced comparing fractions to each other to see whether one fraction is greater than, less than, or equal to another fraction. As we begin our second lesson series next week, scholars will use unit fractions, a fraction with 1 in the numerator, to decompose other fractions to their unit parts. Unit fractions will be used to add and subtract fractions with like denominators. We will learn to decompose composite fractions into smaller unit and composite fractions. Finally, students will use tape diagrams (bar models), number lines, words, and equations to represent solutions to word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions and mixed numbers.
Standards: 4.NF.3, 4.MD.4
